Congrats to the UW Eau Claire student selected for a Rhodes Scholarship. One of thirty-two in the country. Sounds like it was well deserved.

Wabash will bring in a defense to the Perk on Saturday that registered six sacks and 11 quarterback hits propelling Wabash to a 33-14 victory over Franklin.  They won't be a patsy!!  Just saying!!

And we will counter with an offensive unit that has only allowed 9 sacks this year.  I doubt anyone is expecting Wabash to be a patsy.  They're a good team with solid defense and offense.  It should be a very competitive and interesting matchup.

Wabash also had a Rhodes Scholar recipient!  Our 9th in school history since 1832.

Looking forward to the game Saturday!  Go Bash!  WAF

Looks to be a fun and challenging game this Saturday.  From a statistical standpoint, based upon the NCAA stats the teams are fairly even:

Total Defense:             UWW - 12      Wabash - 3
Total Offense:             UWW - 20      Wabash - 43
Turnovers Allowed:      UWW - 1        Wabash - 10
Turnover Margin:        UWW - 6         Wabash - 78
Pass Eff Offense:         UWW - 7        Wabash - 19
Pass Eff Defense:        UWW - 13       Wabash - 23
Rushing Offense:        UWW - 42       Wabash - 26
Rushing Defense:       UWW - 9          Wabash - 1
Sacks Allowed:           UWW - 17        Wabash - 162
Tackles for Loss All:    UWW - 3          Wabash - 132

The common opponent is Franklin who Wabash just beat 33-14 and UWW beat Franklin 42-13.

One thing Wabash has missed this year (so far) is a good offense that likes to run the ball.  So, even though they may rank #1 in rushing defense, Whitewater will be by far their biggest test.
Long shall we sing thy praises, Old Wabash

Interesting.   I would like to think that UWW playing against Oshkosh, Platteville and Stevens Point would prepare them well for Wabash given the size and quickness of a couple of those defensive front 7's and that most people rank the WIAC conference as one of the best in D3.    We will see.

From a Warhawk fan that traveled to River Falls for the game,  what the heck happened in that one?

I was expecting to see a bunch of turnovers or mistakes in the stats... looked pretty clean.
Why should you go for it on 4th down?

I wasn't at the game, but did watch it a few times.
UWRF played excellent football.  The UWRF QB ran the Read Option offense extremely well and quite frankly, tested the rookie UWW LB's.  Additionally, they ran some interesting power formations that put a lot of poundage at the point of attack.  The passing was very accurate and the receivers made plays, beating the UWW coverage deep a couple times in the fourth quarter.  Defensively, the UWRF front 7 played very well, with fair success at the line of scrimmage especially on short yardage.

To UWW's great credit, the Hawks did not panic and made the plays when they had to for the victory.

Be careful not to form any opinions of UWW based on UWRF's record.

Several UWW players mentioned after the game Saturday that they looked past River Falls which was a mistake.  Every team in the WIAC can play with the best teams in the Conference if that occurs.    Come playoff time the players know it is one game at a time to advance and each game could be the last game for the seniors.   I fully expect them to be even more prepared for Wabash than Macalester.  From my experience watching them since my son starting playing for UWW in 2009, the intensity of preparation and team focus picks up each and every game of the playoffs recognizing that the competition improves.

I was at the game and it was obvious that they had taken a mental vacation. It was miserably cold but that is no excuse.  RF had a bunch of seniors that really played their hearts out and really wanted to win that game.  It was a good game for the Hawks because the realized they can't sleep walk through a game or rest on their laurels.  It certainly has helped them focus for the play offs.
