Well....if you are going to be the best....

Looking forward to another trip to the Perk. The outcomes haven't been in my 'Cats favor but the experience has always been a great one in terms of people and how hard the games have been played. See you next Saturday and congrats on the comeback.
Will be so happy to see you at my tailgate again, 11,  The beer will be cold and the food hot!   :-*

413,

Let me know if you have any IPA drinkers and I'll bring along a six pack of my favorite Oregon brew to donate to the cause. Hope all is well and looking forward to seeing the UWW crew.
11!!!  Is that a rhetorical question??  This is Wisconsin, after all!    ;D 8-)

Did any other Whitewater fan start thinking of that game on Sept. 29, 2007 (The Comeback) during the 4th quarter on Sat? Especially when the Warty QB went down? For those of you who don't know, on 9.29.07 #3 UWW was playing @ #6 UW-La Crosse. UWL was leading 28-10 starting the 4th quarter. Whitewater got a 41 yard FG to complete a 14 play drive that had started at the end of the 3rd quarter and carried over to the 4th. Two UWL fumbles and one INT, were converted into 3 UWW TD's, the final one, a Jake Anderson 1 yard plunge into the endzone with 61 seconds left in the game the game winner. At 28-10, UWL was just as dominating as Warty was on Saturday. But what the game will always be remembered for was the fact that within a couple minutes, La Crosse lost their starting QB Griffin Moe, who had thrown for over 300 yards, on a crunching hit by #33 and three plays later, the backup QB forced a throw that was intercepted. Both were converted into TD's by Danny Jones.  A third turnover, another fumble forced by Jace Rindahl resulted in the Anderson TD run to win it. This game can be remembered for two important reasons - #1, Danny Jones cemented himself as a leader of the offensive with his 4th quarter performance and the team bonding with the high valued transfer QB. And #2, the fact that UWL has yet to recover to their dynasty-like status as a program since that 4th quarter meltdown. Just a remarkable turn of events.
Remembering that game, never gets old!  It was just incredible! I remember telling my other half at the beginning of the 4th quarter, as he was imploring the offense to hurry up, "Honey, relax, we're going to lose."   :o   It was #33 who also sacked the back-up QB on third down forcing a fumble during the Eagles last possession, and with Jace's recovery, the win was sealed.   8-)

Speaking of amazing games, the first meeting of these two teams is legendary when in 05, the Warhawks traveled to  McMinnville, Oregon in the quarterfinals to take on the 2004 defending national champions, the Linfield Wildcats and their amazing QB, Brett Elliot.  A total of 11 lead changes and when we went up by 3 points with 29 seconds left, I was still frightened that it was too much time.  I think it is only fitting, and I hope WC11 does not mind, my posting the link to his wonderful video/tribute to one of the most amazing games I have ever been honored to witness.  "The Game,"  from catdomealumni.com

In past years, at this point of the playoffs (semi finals), we've always assumed UWW and Mount Union will be destined to face each other in the Stagg Bowl....again. However, this season, I think the chances of a Linfield/Wesley final are just as likely as a UWW/Wesley matchup. To me, it's a coin flip on which teams will advance on.

In few games this year UWW has shown they are very vulnerable in a few areas. At the same time, JCU has shown the d3 powers that UMU isn't invincible. I keep hearing how this is Wesley's best team ever. If that's the case, this should be a really good one in alliance on Saturday. Linfield has aleady proven they can beat one purple power on the road. So I have no reason to think why they can't do it again on Saturday.

Bottom line, I can't say with any certainty who the favorites truly are on Saturday.

Warhawk

I'm trying to determine how many points to ask for from the Wesley faithful.  From your post above you seem to favor either a Linfield/Wesley or a UWW/Wesley Stag Bowl.  How points should I ask for?

Like I said in my post I don't see a clear favorite on Saturday. I think all four teams have an equal shot at advancing to the Stagg. I would be ok with both games being an even pick-em.

Warhawk

I normally enjoy your posts and I was just playing with you a little there.

Same opinion here. Best football game I've ever seen. For that matter, all three Linfield/UWW games have been very good...although I haven't cared much for the outcomes. Here's to the fourth iteration of this series having a different result. I believe we have a reasonable chance of this occurring. Go Wildcats !!!

11 -- thats a great video.  You do a really great job with that website.  If I were going to put something together for my alma mater, I would definitely come to you first for advice.

Boy -- seeing all the great players on those two teams.  Elliott, Stanley, Beaver... its easy for me as a casual fan to forget about those guys with all of the great players who've played since them... but damn that was a great ballgame with great players.  And Catdome looks like a helluva place to play.

That is why I take every opportunity I can to remind people that this run started back in 05 with an incredible talented group of players!   I still feel bad for those 06 players, Stanley,  Widdich, Lyschinski, TE Schmidt, QB Jacobs, and the great, Ryan Kleppe, "D3Football 06 defensive player of the year," who never got to experience the thrill of victory in Salemn.  And I welcome the eye roll  ::)  when I repeat, again, it's much easier to decide to play for a national championship program than it is to help build one!!   We, Warhawk fans, owe those boys a lot!

And the parking lot of the Catdome is a pretty special place to be, too!   Wonderful fans, atmosphere,  campus and town.   Everyone we met could not have been nicer!
Yes, best game, although the 07 comeback and the 07 Stagg Bowl are a pretty close 2nd and 3rd for me!    ;D

Notice I didn't say anything about "enjoyable" regarding that game. I believe it was the best game I ever saw because there were two very talented, well-coached, dedicated teams slugging it out the entire 60 minutes...back and forth. It was the football equivalent of a 15-round heavyweight championship fight where the opponents took turns "taking it to the other guy." Neither team would "give in" and it went right down to the last play. Now, let's be clear...I didn't enjoy the outcome but I walked away with the highest respect for both teams and the performances they put on that day.

This Saturday I'll be on hand for the fourth time when these two programs meet. I expect another outstanding game but, of course, seek a different outcome.
GO CATS !!!

With four touchdown passes last week WARHAWKS QB Matt Behrendt passed Justin Jacobs' program record for touchdowns passing.   Jacobs previous record was 80.  Behrendt currently has 81.  Congrats Matt.

That's actually kind of surprising to me for some reason. However, I suppose Behrendt didn't have a Beaver or a Coppage to hand off to.
