bw--obviously, you're kidding! I said RF  would not finish last. I did not say they would challenge WW for the title. Why would I go double or nothing? That's a good one!

Fred, I've never really considered collecting on our bet so you may consider it forgiven.  I thought we'd just keep it going double or nothing until you owed me enough alcohol to put me in rehab. :D

In light of the fact that it was media today, the news in the Eau Claire Leader-Telegram kind of puts things into perspective, and is a reminder to us all about how short our time here can be -

The paper reported today that UWEC Blugold sophomore defensive lineman Mike Plese, 19, of Eagle River, died in his sleep Sunday night. An autopsy was scheduled to determine the cause of death...

My condolences to Mike's family, and to his Blugold football family, too...

That's really sad news.  May his family find comfort in their faith and one another.

What's going on up there, Fred.  Sounds like change in the wind.  For those of you not yet aware the River Falls staff announced that they are abandoning the wishbone offense this season and will, instead, run what  they are referring to as a "zone offense."

Pastprime,
You are correct that it was discovered in September of 2003 that UW Oshkosh used ineligible players during the 2002 season which then forced them to forfeit all of their games.
To sum it up the games are won on the field and not because some computer said a kid was eligible., and you don't hear anyone else who lost to UW Oshkosh compl;aining. In my book the Warhawks lost that game 21-20.
However I do not think the titans are going to be that lucky to beat the warhawks this fall,as the warhawkls are not only going to be on a roll to get back to the stagg bowl. They are also going to be conducting the "WIN IT FOR BREZ" tour this fall. I know he said he doesn't want that to happen. However either did coach Alvarez I expect the warhawk faithful to have some type of ceremony for him after the November 4 home game against Stout.
However thats just what I expect when coach Perkins retired they gave him a car. Who knopws what coach Brez will get but one nice thing the players can give him is the gold ball this year after the stagg bowl.Because lets face it Gold looksmuch better then silver.

This year will be much more difficult for the Warhawks even though on paper they will be better and have a great recruiting class coming in with a couple of real good transfers. If they win the WIAC and get to the Stagg Bowl again and lose---- it will be an unsuccessful season and that would be too bad.....last year 14-1 was awesome(take it from me I was at every game) but this year it will be a downer.....It is all or nothing in 2006 and that is a pressure-packed position to be in....Congrats to Brez ...He is a class act and we certainly hope "Z" gets the job. Those two guys are the reason my son went to Whitewater and it is the best decision he ever made.......

bw--despite your forgiveness of the bet, I will keep in mind my debt. Who knows, one of these days I will at least be able to buy you a beer or two.

Yes, you're right. Sadly, to  my way of thinking, the Falcons have abandoned the wishbone. I was not going to mention it just in case they wanted to surprise the Johnnies on Sept. 9. However, I think they'll scrimmage Concordia before then and perhaps film will be available from that. And of  course, there's always communication between coaches. I'm assuming that report came of media day. It  really would not have made any sense for John O. to hide his plans. Anyway, what he described as a zone offense will resemble WW's offense. I also heard him describe it as a combination of the Gopher/Badger offense.

It seems that the players had lost faith in the bone after the past few years of losing records. It will, of course, strongly feature the fullback, and more passing than the usual average of 7-8 passes per game. As a fan, I will miss the challenge of figuring out who has the ball as was the case with the bone. But, "all good things come to an end," as the bard once said, or came close to saying.

I think the RF change, as much as some of you guys don't like it, will
help with recruiting and be for the better in the long run.

Whitewater's football media guide this year has a bulls eye on the front cover.  Ugh

Fred, I was planning on exchanging the beer for political favors. :D

Perhaps they stopped by our season previews page a couple weeks ago and read all about it. :)

Good point Pat, They are not trying to keep it a secret.

Fredfalcon,

You mentioned a "Johnnie Bar" on main street. Are you the bartender who is a St. Johns grad we met last fall prior to the game with PLU ?

You might remember your surprise when we entered the bar.
WELCOME TO THE MACHINE!
