That's the infamous Catdome?   ???   That looks like a county fair grounds.  This is what a football stadium should look like.....

Badger,

Do cows graze on that pasture?   ;)   No, I'm kidding.  That place probably looks pretty sweet on game day with 8,000 empty seats.   ;D

Desertcat1,
I definitely see how the rain would be an advantage for you guys. Now that I've seen some picture on here of the infamous "Catdome", I like it! Does it still have regular grass though? I thought it got turf. I bet regular grass there, in the rain, would really make it tough for opponents, not use to wet conditions, to win.

I hadn't heard of the "Miracle in the Mud" before, but I searched it; that must have been an absolute heartbreaker!

BW,  That is a picture of the CatDome, or whatever it's officially called. I went to their website to check it out. The field looks great, nice scoreboard, but the stands look like something for a racetrack or a rodeo.  :)

Anyway, there is definately no dome, and I don't see how you get one over that field unless it's one of those huge inflatable humps.  ;)

So, Catdome is a state of mind then?  ???

BlueDevil,

The history of the grandstand area is pretty cool.  I can't recall the exact date of when Memorial Stadium (aka the 'Catdome) was built but the college was strapped for cash but the Federal Government was helping colleges with funding the building of campus housing.

The College used a little creativity and secured the money to build the grandstands by making the front of the stadium a dormitory.  Memorial Hall

Memorial Hall is now an all Women's dorm (since 2000) but for about 15 years it served as a fraternity house for the local Kappa Sigma fraternity chapter.

Here are some other pics:

Just a heads up WIAC fans: We'll have a photographer at the River Falls - Pacific Lutheran game on Saturday. Look for the photo gallery on Saturday evening.

As much as I've despised warhawk football in years past, I have to agree with Badgerwarhawk about UWW's stadium. An 11,000 seat stadium with real grass. Heck of a nice setting for football rivaled by few others in D3 (the few others of course being other WIAC schools). Wildcat 11 I hope you're not knocking UWW's game attendance, which ranks 4th in the nation for D3. (4,647 per game compared to Linfield's 3,850).

St. Francis
Pacific Lutheran

Wildcat 11,  That is a great history lesson on the Memorial Dorm/Stadium. Very clever by those people that came up with the idea.

I am sure it's a great football venue. I just don't get how "Dome" came into play.  ???  Given the proximity of the football locker rooms to the women's dormitory, perhaps a better name would be CatHouse instead of CatDome .  :)
(no offense to the fine young women that have lived there)

Just think of the recruiting possibilities... "Son, we want you to come play in the CatHouse!"  :o  ;)  :D

So the infamous CatDome looks like a county fairground grandstand, was built by defrauding the federal government and is actually a women's dormitory.   Got it. ???    ;)

My picks this week....

Platteville at Augustana....Augustana has 945 yards rushing in two games this season.  They will trample the Pioneer....Augustana

Pacific Lutheran at River Falls...Pac Lutheran lost the "Battle of the Lutherans" last week so they should be demoralized...River Falls

Waldorf at Stevens Point...Point will find Waldo and get their first win in a big way...Stevens Point

Eau Claire at St Francis...St Francis, for no good reason.

Wildcat 11,

As far as UW-Whitewater's Perkins Stadium is concerned... even with 7 or 8,000 "empty seats" on game-day, Whitewater still draws more fans to its games than the "Greatest Show On Earth," Linfield College football team on its game-days.  How do you explain that WC11?

I'm not WC11, I am not even a NWC poster, but I have to respond to that.  Your enrollment is five times greater than that of Linfield.    The fact that you only outdraw Linfield by 800 fans or so is nothing to crow about.

I would much rather attend a game with smaller stands packed to the gills than one with stands twice as large that are more than half empty.  The atmosphere is way more charged, even if you have roughly the same number in attendance.
