I would be ok with UWW playing at Welsey to open up the 2015 season.

"The Mount Union fans – the best team that they've seen is Whitewater.  So, Whitewater has moved into the position of being the team that is the standard-bearer for, 'What's the best team like?' Well, it's like Whitewater's team."

I don't disagree with him, I'm just surprised he said it.

Wesley and their fans make it a yearly issue that they can't field a full DIII schedule because no one will play them...

UWW fans (some of them, anyway) do this too.

In the slight chance Wesley would accept this offer (which I don't believe they ever would), then we got our game.  I don't think UWW cares "who" or "when" we play - we just want the game.  UMHB would take the game in the same situation.

Fascinating that you should mention UMHB.

Wesley played UMHB home-and-home in 2012-13, and UMHB is one of the handful over the last 5-6 seasons that can even pretend to be in UWW's zip code.

Wesley may or may not accept the offer of being the 2015 season opener, but implying that they're fraidy-cats who won't schedule anyone tough is a little disingenuous.

I know some UWW fans will never get it out of their head that Wesley has absolutely tanked on the big stage several times.  They've also come close several times against Mount, and they have been able to beat UMHB (in the 2010 and 2011 playoffs, once on the road).  I admit that this year's blowout loss at Mount was a staggering blow to the "Wesley is really getting there" train of thought, and maybe they never will "get there" and make the Stagg.  That puts them in a lump with, like, 230-some other D3 teams that haven't made a Stagg since 2000, right?
I was small but made up for it by being slow...

The last I read, UW-Whitewater is looking for one more game to fill its 2015 schedule. I noticed on Footballscoop.com today that Wesley is looking to fill its schedule on Sept. 5th.  Why not a "feature game" to open the season?  Wesley could get to play at the Perk without snow, ice or excuses. Just saying

When I had the original post yesterday I was just talking about the Wesley 9/5 open date. I have no idea if the two schools have discussed a possible game this year.

Just received the following tweet:
@KirkHerbstreit We're on a mission to get @CollegeGameDay to a Whitewater Football game in 2015. Longest winning streak in NCAA at 32 games.

OR, for once UWW could actually go to Wesley! :o

That does seem like a helluva game to open a season - somebody make it happen! ;)

I think you got your Purples crossed here Ypsi.
IMO, one of the greatest accomplishments of UWW's run is the fact that they've had to go on the road multiple times during the playoffs- producing a perfect road playoff record.

To be clear, that Tweet is not FROM Kirk Herbstreit. It's from a user named Tim Patterson (player? former player?) directed TO Herbstreit.

Just so no one is thinking Kirk Herbstreit is rallying ESPN to get to Whitewater. Maybe he is, but these words aren't his, they are Patterson's.

Herbstreit and Lee Corso both indicated last fall on the day the Lance Leipold ESPN package was aired that they would like to travel to Whitewater for ESPN College Football Game Day.  Lee Corso was emphatic on coming to UW-Whitewater saying the program's success would make it an ideal Game Day location.

Just Bill

True enough, Tom. I was just pointing out that that tweet is not an indication that Herbstreit is out publicly lobbying for anything right now. The way you reported it made it appear to be a tweet from Herbstreit, but it's not. Fair enough?

They did in 2010 when they had no business going there!  :-X
That's the year that actually caused a rule change allowing the national committee to consider the prior year's playoff results in "NOT SEEDING" :) teams  when they put together the playoff bracket.  Sending an undefeated defending national champion on the road turned a bit embarrassing for the committee when many people far beyond Whitewater considered it a joke.  UW-W won a hard fought game at NCC, then won by 20 at Wesley, then won the National Championship at Salem. Road Warriors!

I know Wesley is a program with a lot of pride and is eager to get back on the field after the debacle at Mount, but they may want to get their legs under them a bit in their first game rather than taking on UW-W.  I think that's the first weekend, right?

As a fan, I would make an offer to them for the game just to prove a point.  Wesley and their fans make it a yearly issue that they can't field a full DIII schedule because no one will play them...well, offer and let's see about that. Time to put up or shut up.

You're late to this party. Wesley finally got someone to take them into a conference, so they will be in the NJAC next year, with nine conference games and one non-conference game to schedule.

There's a whole lot more to scheduling than simply having an open date.

That's an exciting opportunity. Although you had best hope it's the weekend against the UW-Creampuffs. I don't think your win streak is destined to continue that much longer.

Maybe SJU should schedule UWW for a home and away series....nah, SJU wouldn't go for it.

No, no, no Ex, not exactly implying that at all.  Only suggesting they wouldn't schedule UWW even if their last breath depended on it. Is that clearer for you? Reasons: They know they don't have the physical or mental toughness, talent, and will get out coached (even with our coach in his first season as a HC), and their new conference mates will have, on film, the Wesley team getting thumped out of the gate.  Wesley simply can't allow that to happen, moving into that new league...so IMO they'll never, if/when approached by UWW, enter into a good faith negotiation to make the deal to play. Look for them to play someone like The Apprentice School - that would be more their speed and typical of what they do.
