Are there any other DIII QB's presently in the NFL besides Alex Tanney (Monmouth-Il) who is the Practice Squad QB for the Tenn. Titans?

Matt Blanchard is one

http://www.panthers.com/team/roster/matt-blanchard/f166a274-c34f-44d5-873f-4a0575547a55/

Technically he was waived on 12/9/14 so he currently isn't on their roster.  ;)

Seems a bit odd that his profile would still be accessible on the Panther roster page. Thanks, I hadn't heard this development.

Maybe Matt Blanchard is on the Panther's practice squad.

If you're interested beyond idle curiosity try contacting Joe Person, who is the Panthers beat writer for the Charlotte Observer. I'm guessing he knows or could find out.

In light of the Cam Newton injury news I checked to see where Matt Blanchard was falling on the Carolina Panthers depth chart. He had been the 4th string QB on the practice squad (after being brought off IR in Oct? for a concussion).

Looks like he was waived yesterday.

You can also just google his name and see that his status is now listed as a free agent...
Or, see that his status has been updated on his bio (the first sentence) on the Panthers link provided above...
Or you could follow along here, oshfb's post... but you didn't read it here, first, I guess...

No practice squad designation in the offseason. Roster limits are increased and no practice squad or IR lists.

In the midst of Matt Blanchard's NFL status I would be remiss not to congratulate Matt and fiancé Abbey who will be married today in Madison, WI!!!

Per Tom Oates Wisconsin State Journal: from Wisconsin NFL pro day: UW-Whitewater WR Jake Kumerow showed his athleticism with a 4.50 in the 40

Evan Flood of 247sports reported the "The Kumerow kid ran a 4.4" same as Kenzel Doe.

Ok, so that begs the question...What did Thurgood Dennis run the 40 in?

I saw both Matt and Jake on NBC Channel 15 sports last night.  Channel 15 is Madison station.
I scoured the websites and newspapers for Dennis' time in the 40, but came up empty. Oh well. I know he's still fast...

Dennis came up short on a three-peat today, but the defending two-time D3 champ in the 60-m dash came in second to Winston Lee, a burner from Cobelskill (NY), who beat Dennis' 6.75 seconds (his fastest time of the year) by two-hundreths of a second.

But enough about the Blugold DB Dennis. He and his track and field UWEC Blugold teammates won their first D3 indoor national championship today... Congrats to them all, and the UWL Eagles (2nd), (UWO 8 and UWW 9), and the rest of the WIAC M&W squads who represented the conference today.

The Eagles and Oshkosh women's teams finished 1-2 in those national championships, with two other WIAC women's teams placing in the top 10, too... (UWEC and UWW)

^^ Do you think the football player Dennis and the track sprinter Dennis did possibly an injustice to each sport by burning the candle from both ends? I mean, he's obviously very fast, but did his [no pun intended] running around a few days before the national indoor meet to chase a dream of playing pro football interfere with his preparation of defending his national title? He was very close to failing to qualify for the finals of his event. Is he going to compete in outdoor track OR train for football? Hard to do both, and go to school, too. Plus, I'm only speculating here, but his 40 time at the Pro Day seems to be a mystery since it wasn't overly impressive for a champion sprinter.  When we consider that we have at least 2 media members (Tom Oates & Evan Flood) in attendance at the event hyping Kumerow's time, but not a word about Dennis' (who I'm sure they all knew before hand as a national champion sprinter), don't you think it would have been reported somewhere from one of those media guys observing if not one of the draft websites that post all the times, etc? The five shares of Packer stock in my portfolio doesn't put me on Ted Thompson's insider buddy list or telephone speed dial, but because Dennis is a Green Bay area kid, I bet the Packers front office is already planning on extending an invite to him for rookie camp (not signing a FA deal) following the draft as a courtesy tryout that teams seem to like to do with small college guys from their area. Unfortunately, I don't see the football talent in him to stick through August. Just my opinion. Please, go ahead an rip me for saying that because I know you want to.

RE: Bobo's questions -
Unless I'm actually on the team and in the lockerroom, I can't say for sure what impact/importance/difference one particular player has and makes on the team... That being said, since we are speculating here, I'll take a shot at some of your questions, Bobo:
1) Burning the candle at both ends - The UWEC football team finished 1-9, and the track and field team just won a national championship. Draw your own conclusions on if his participation in both sports did an injustice to one or the other...
2) Did his dream of playing pro football interfere with his prep for the track events? He barely qualified? Well, that happens often in track, where they run more than one race (heats) for each event. As a defending 2x champion, I'm sure he was well aware of who was in the lanes next to him, and what times he needed to qualify. Perhaps he, although risky, was saving himself for the finals? Or perhaps he just had qualifying races which he ran poorly? I don't know, but he did qualify. That's how it works, and what counts... As for his after-college motivations or ambitions are, I don't know what they are, or if football is even a realistic dream. I'm not a scout... But I do see that a few days after showcasing his talents for NFL scouts that he ran his personal best this year in his final 60-m heat, which placed him second in the country...
3) Is he going to train for outdoor t&f or football? Not sure. Probably both.
4) What was his 40 time, Bobo? You don't know, and call it a mystery... But just because it wasn't reported doesn't mean I, like you, am going to assume it wasn't overly impressive. Why or why it wasn't mentioned, I don't know. I could make all kinds of cases why it wasn't, but I'm not going down that road again; we had that discussion regarding journalism earlier regarding the Royal Purple and Coach Bullis' hiring, which brought out all the UWW "experts" on the subject of reporting...
5) Perhaps yes the Pack is giving a local kid a courtesy shot, in part because he's fast, and yep, a local kid. Or maybe because there have been a few diamonds-in-the-rough (those who normally would be underestimated or overlooked on a national basis because they come from D3 schools). But a handful of D3 worthy guys do get looks annually, helped out in part by some who have come out of this conference over the years, especially UWL, which has had some prominent NFL players... (And yes, a Blugold did play for the Packers a while back, under some unusual circumstances, so I'm not counting this one out just yet...  :) )
5) Again, I am not a scout and don't measure football talent on a daily basis. I do know however that Dennis has one thing that can't be measured by scouts, though - the heart of a champion. And that can take him far in whatever endeavor or path he chooses in life after college...

I really was just curious and didn't intend to start a pissing match.  I wouldn't expect to see Dennis's time in the Madison area media.  Eau Claire isn't in the same media market that we are.  I thought possibly it might have made the local Eau Claire media.  At any rate good luck to all three of them regardless of how fast they are or are not.  Regardless of the circumstances under which they may get an opportunity in an NFL camp I hope they all do and that they do well.
