The is no possible way you can argue that UW0 has the best oline.
UWW
2000 WIAC Conference Champs

UWEC 20, Black Hills State 0

Workmanlike win for the 'Golds. Had a 3-0 lead at half; both teams missed field goals. BHS doinked one off the cross bar, UWEC botched the snap. Eddie Kaiser had a tough 50+ hards on 10 carries in the first half. He looked solid between the tackles, and if he can get untracked will be a key to the offense. Had 80-something yards rushing.

Offensive line was not good in the first quarter for the 'Golds; the Jackets were swarming and had most of their sacks that quarter. But the line pulled together the rest of the game, and was able to eat up time and sustain enough drives to help in the win...

Blugold defense looked impressive. Several solid sticks, and wrapping up players throughout the game... Will be the strength of the team, and will keep the 'Golds in every game, if the offense can step it up and run some time, keeping the D fresh.

The D set the tone of the game right away, too, when the 'Golds won the coin toss and elected to kick off...Forced the punt, which hit the 'Gold's player. Jackets recovered at the 27, D held, and then the Jackets missed the field goal when it doinked off the cross bar... Then the offense stepped it up to take the second half kickoff and drive down the field for a TD to make it 10-0.

Team reminds me of last year's team - ball control, efficient offense, nothing pretty. Spreading the ball around to the recievers, too. QB Paulson looks like he will fit in well with this offense. And a D that will bend but not break... Gave up only 125 total yards, and minus 3 rushing... Don't foresee a lot of shootouts with this team, although they might have a very good air attack if they need it...

Fumbles, however were a concern. They can't let the ball loose against the higher caliber teams. Two of today's were bad breaks - one hit a Blugold player on the punt return team, while another happened along the sideline when the returner fumbled. Didn't see how it happened, if he was stripped or hit by several players, because all I saw on a play was one of the 'Golds lay the hit of the week on a Jacket. Didn't catch his number, but he drilled the guy, so I missed the fumble... Nine penalties were not good on the 'Golds part, either...

Stat of the day: Jackets were but 1 for 15 on third down conversions. Not sure how to rate that team? Based on how they played today, they would probably be last in this conference.... Blugolds outplayed and outmatched them... Nice win, though.

Mr. Downtown

Last night, Oshkosh beat Oshkosh. No way, especially on the road, can you have that many turnovers.

3 turnovers = 20 points.

Score?

MSU-M: 33      UWO: 22.

Oshkosh was better offensively (sans turnovers) and held MSU-M under 300 yards of total offense, so the defense did its job.

Nice to see Stoltz back, and Mo was being Mo. Patek was effective throwing the ball most of the time, but c'mon...2 interception returns for TD's? Ouch. And why are we throwing the ball on first down? At that point of the game, only being down by 5, ride MO until we have to pass, and set up a high percentage attempt. Also, the number attempts Patek had at that time when he threw his second INT, it suggests that MSU-M was looking for play action pass, rather than the run.

Disappointing to say the least, I know some of you believe that no way should Oshkosh beat a D-II opponent, but last night, it was Oshkosh, not Mankato, that beat them.

I'm sure the six hour bus ride last night gave the team enough time to think of what happened.

Anyways, Ohio State won. They usually make me happy :)

I do have to question the whole thing about Oshkosh having the ebst offensive line. Especially seeing that Whitewaters starters played a quarter and a half against Lakelnad who Oshklosh plays this week.
As far as the whole playing eight in the box and double teaming stanley. there are ways to do it. However you then have no one in the middle of the field. You also have to take one of the eight guys ion the box asnd have him go man to man with the best TE in the league Pete Hollywood Schmidtt. As well as man to man with the other WR. As far as having some one in the box unblocked.Hopefully that guy was the backside end man on the line of scrimmage. As then when they did hand off they could run boot and naked fakes and force that player honor Jakes fake.
The warhawks should ahev a tougher game against Aszau Pacific this week. As I am sure that they have more talent and athleticism then Lakeland as they are from California. I think their skilled positions will be even if not above whitewater. However their lineman will not be as big as Whitewaters as everyone California is more known for Skileld players then lineman and Wisconsin is known for lineman more then skilled players. At kleast for the higher levels of football.
It will also be interesting to see how many students show up for the game,as Mike Kachel told the Jounel Sentinel last december that UW Whitewater is a suitcase colege meaning the weekend comes and the students go home.

Question for the UWW folks.  Why would you schedule a NAIA school?  Just wondering.  I am sure there are enough DIII NCAA Schools in WI, MN, IL, IA and even MI, OH, and IN that you could play.

Won't hurt you for post season consideration being that you are #2 in the polls and probably have to win the WIAC to get in anyway, but just seems strange to play a NAIA school, from CA no less.

Kirasdad,

If all these D3 teams in the Midwest want to play WIAC teams, I sure wish they would give schools like Stevens Point and La Crosse and Whitewater a call.  They sure don't want to play the WIAC when scheduling is done in the off-season.  That is why La Crosse is playing a nine game schedule for a second year in a row, and is travelling to the LA metro area to play Azusa Pacific (CA) in two weeks.  Stevens Point also has a nine game schedule this year and travelled to Texas to play Hardin-Simmons on 9/2. Last year they travelled to Linfield (OR) and hosted Hardin-Simmons (TX)
Just to fill out its schedule, WW is hosting Azusa Pacific (NAIA D1 Scholorship  Program) on Saturday and travelling to Mary Hardin-Baylor on 10/28.

Being from another region, you tell me why D3 teams (and/or conferences) have a problem scheduling non-conference games against WIAC schools?

D-3 schools in the midwest didn't want to play WIAC teams before UWW played for a national championship!!  ;) :D ;D   The WIAC takes games where ever they can find them.   UWW played NAIA St. Xavier University (and beat them ) in Illinois the last two seasons.

You'll have to excuse Mount Union fans -- that school only has to find one opponent a  year. They don't know what it's like to look for three games. :)

Maybe you should schedule Crown College or Northwestern College (MN)?  :P  I heard that Northwestern could keep up with any WIAC school.

Both Mr. Colerman as well as Voice make good points. No one wants to play teams from the WIAC. if they do they need to step up to the plate. There are numerous division three private schools who will not play WIAC schools. I ahve ehard all sorts of excuses. Like the WIAC schools are like good D2 or even 1AA schools.
However as nice as a compliment as that is. The wiac are Division three, and are at a disadvanbtage to most conferences due to the great Title nine rule were the rosters are capped at 100,and WHitewater is actually capped at 97 for some reason this fall.
I would loe to see teams like Concordia,Carroll,Carthage,Ripon schedule UW Whitewater. The warhawks have played St. norberts and Lakeland the past three years and except for the 2004 Lakeland game the Warhawks have blown both the Knights and the Muskies out of the stadium. Heck the last two eyars the Muskies looked like a very very very bad high schoolt eam instead of a college team.
So anyone questioning why UWW is playing the #8 rankd Azuza Pacific this saturday. please have the division three schools from around the midwest,Iowa,Minnesota,Iowa call UWW and shedule them.

Now, how did I know you would wade in on this topic, Duffman?  LOL!  Hey, lots of credit to the Johnnies!  They scheduled two WIAC teams this pre-season.;) :D ;D

love the post but slow down so it is easier to read my goodness....

I played at WW and was rather close to the coaching staff and the schedulin problems are not easy to deal with, no MN school will play WW unless we travel with no home game(st johns) and private WI schools(carthage) say that WIAC teams have to many students and they cant compete even though those are the same teams that they might meet in the playoffs..
If you wanna be good practice till you get it right, if you wanna be great practice till you cant get it wrong..

I have heard that Northwestern (ILL) could keep up with WIAC teams. But after this past week I'm not quite so sure.
