So far on the main site the poll has a disgusting 23% favoring UWW/UMU being on opposite sides saying that "if nobody else can stop them the committee should". Basically not supporting possibly the two best teams playing in the championship. In any sport people should never artificially force a rematch to not happen. A lot of those votes are probably coming from East region teams who have for years called for this because it's "fair".  ::)

I believe the two best teams already played each other twice this season  ;)

Where do the Johnnie fans send the thank-you note? ;)

Well friends, I finally remembered the right password to post at work. LOL.

Wow, what a game Saturday. We sat right behind the band for the game. That wind was a bit stronger than expected and I was sadly a little underdressed for it, so I was cold. Oh well.

Anyways, the UWO punts into the wind were the biggest issue that helped UWW all day long. It was clear that whomever had the wind at their backs, had a big advantage. Some costly penalties by UWW really helped the Titans at critical times. Some crushing hits by Warhawk DB's to cause incompletions were outstanding.

Did anyone see how our defensive lineman got hurt right at the end? Popped his knee from what I heard. Season ender?

I circled this week's game on the bracket when it came out. Now that it is a reality, I'm making the drive to Alliance this weekend with the wifey. Road trip! Leaving ASAP on Friday after work to get as close as possible. Bought an audio book for the ride. I can't wait now. I had always heard about the mystical place known as Alliance so it's kind of a bucket list thing for me I guess.

I will be screaming hard to help the boys out in the stadium that NOBODY survives in. This will be history if they win. I point out that there isn't any Mount Union players on the current squad that have ever beaten UWW is there? You would have to think that there would be a little bit of doubt in their heads. Super confident they surely are, but the ONE team in the country that can and has beaten them is now coming to town. They had to take a gulp when they saw that, and buckle up for war now.

My, my, we are sure of that last comment now, are we? The only one?

To all Warhawks fans, the pre game buffet in the campus center for a few bucks is amazing, I would highly recommend.  I am told the Warhawk team will visit the Pro Football Hall of Fame on Friday.  A great visit, 25 minutes or so from Alliance.  There will most likely be many fans in BW3 across from the campus on Friday eve as well, but many of the guys on the OAC board go to Reys west of Mount Union.
You will be seated on the east side, so sun will be in your face (if it is out), and most of the time wind will be too...

For all the posters upset about the bracket placements, you have to go through Mount Union or Whitewater to win a national championship, doesn't really matter when.  The travel issue is a beaten dog, just be a higher seed and you can stay home.  Been that way for years.  Has Mount benefited?  Sure, but in the early days we travelled to Augustana, Wisconsin LaCrosse twice (-29 degrees on the first trip), and a couple other places, so we did pay a few dues there.

Have a safe trip and I expect another d3 classic.

Just not sure why there is any issue with how the brackets came out.  Why does there have to be a conspiracy to make them play each other before the Stagg?  Maybe this is how it just happened.  I give the committee more credit than that.  If they were going to put them on the same side there are other years they could have moved the 1's around to have them on the same side of the bracket.  Just enjoy the game.  In the end only one of them can win the Stagg anyway.

Only one can win the Stagg but both could go.  Just going to the Stagg Bowl is a big deal in my book. There are the pre game events and build up.  There are the extra days there to enjoy the hoopla. Obviously it's about winning the title, but being in the game is important.

Absolutely correct, and that is why I bristle anytime someone says that the committee should gerrymander the brackets to cause UWW and UMU to be on the same side.   This year it happened naturally/organically due to UWW having the one loss to UWO and frankly UWW should travel.   But for people to discount the experience of just going to and participating in everything leading up to the National Championship game by indicating the brackets should be rigged - in essence to give others a chance -  is ridiculous.   I will never forget watching my son go through that experience his freshman year.  Winning the Stagg was the icing on the cake.

Great game on Saturday. Hats off to both teams on a wonderful exhibition of WIAC and D3 football. I am still proud to be a Titan. I said here earlier that it would be tough to beat the Warhawks twice in a season. In both losses this year, the Titans were hurt by their special teams. I watched the game on the net, so my account is not from the stadium. The Warhawks were the better team. Not by much, but they were. UWW won the turnover battle and the day on special teams (I thought the punt game was critical too). UWW dominated the first half, and Oshkosh was lucky to be in the game. Some really huge defensive stops kept us in it. The Titan defense never ceases to amaze me when they can bow their neck and keep teams out of the endzone (especially a team like the UWW) when they give them a short field. I thought Oshkosh played as well as they could. They kept the game close, and had a chance to win the game. The talent gap is closing, but UWW still has more talent top to bottom.

My feelings on Coach Cerroni's comments. They guy was clearly hurting after the loss. This was the best team he's ever had (and he's had a previous conference champion that was a final four team), and he was hurting after a brutal playoff loss to the defending national champions that you had beaten earlier in the season to win the best league in all of D3. Darn right he was salty. I played there over 20 years ago, and I was salty after the game (ask my wife and kids). Losing Coach Smith was a big loss for the program (and he went to your chief rival). He's not the first HC to use the media as a platform to get more money for assistants or more "buy-in" from the administration. The Badger coaches have been complaining to the media about their assistant coaches paychecks for a long time too. Coach Cerroni has built a program the University, alums, and the community can be proud of. Hopefully he continues to get the support for us to continue to build it.

Best of luck to the Warhawks. Represent the WIAC and bring it home again. I hope we get a shot at beating the national champs again next year.

PS. I redshirted back in the early 90s. I was 17 years old when I entered UWO, and I was not physically ready to compete with the defenses at LaX, Point, and UWW. I could've played in the CCIW right away, but my high school coach told me that the WSUC was the best small-college conference in the land and I wanted that challenge. That year in the weight room really helped.

Excellent post! +K. Not just because I agree with it, but because it says a lot about you that you can tip your hat to a rival after an extremely hard fought loss. Coach Cerroni wears his heart on his sleeve. It's one of the reasons his players love him and one of the reasons he will ruffle feathers from time to time.  He's also a funny guy.  "Candyland", LOL. I laughed out loud when I heard that. You ought to be proud to be a Titan. They are really good.  Congrats to UW-O on a great season.

Mr. Ypsi

I refuse to vote in the front-page poll because of the wording of option #2.  I'm happy to see that the Stagg will not be yet another rerun, but bristle at the 'conspiracy' tone of having UMU/UWW in the same half of the bracket.  IF there is any committee 'conspiracy' (which I doubt) having them never in the same half of the bracket for an entire decade seems a much more fruitful place to look! ;)

Ret,
The evidence to his point are hardly anecdotal:

Mount's record the last 10 years:

RECORD VS UW-W:           2-6
RECORD VS REST OF D3:  141-0

I know you often comment that UW-W fans act as if football didn't exist before the last decade. I believe it's more of a case of you wishing the last decade doesn't matter.  ;)

Can you just imagine UMU's win streak if UWW never came onto the scene? When's their last non-UWW loss, 2005?

Granted, I think wartburg would have beaten mount last year if they would have hung on in whitewater.

And they've played every D3 team this year as well as the past 10 years. Wow, that's quite a feat.
