So Wheaton/UWO > Wesley?

Very possible...and I hope you're right.

I have no doubts this is the case.   Wesley had a stud QB and a couple nice receivers.   The rest of the team was very average.   Especially along the lines of scrimmage.

UWW will be a HUGE step up in the physical size and strength of the opponent for Mount.  Seriously doubt the QB is anywhere near as good as Callahan, but it won't matter if UWW can run the ball consistently and protect him like they typically have.   Give a good QB a clean pocket and he'll look great.   As it's been with every game between Mount & Whitewater.   The line of scrimmage is key #1.  Turnovers are #2.   Everything just comes along for the ride.

From the late 90's thru the mid-2000's Mount was winning because of their line play.   Now they're in the same boat they were when the run first started in the early 90's.   Winning in spite of their line play.   The level of recruiting in Ohio, especially for O-linemen, has gotten a lot tougher for Mount with the growth of so many D2 schools in the area.   Mount used to have an abundance of linemen that could play.   Now they're scratching to get 5 guys with real ability and size.  That's the difference between Mount now and back in the day.   Plus not having LK calling the plays doesn't help either.

They're really talented and capable of winning a title, but they're not big and strong.   The skill people, specifically the un-tested QB, is going to have to play lights out to overcome the difference at the line of scrimmage.

So what you're saying is, we should put up signs on every major highway entering Wisconsin saying:

D2 Schools...stay the hell out!!

HScoach

^  Yes.   That's a good idea.   Wish I have thought of it 15 years ago.......

Here's a list I had put together a few years ago so I might be missing a D2 school or two, but when the Mount run started taking off in 1992 I think there were only two D2 schools in Ohio.  And those were the kids that Mount was feasting on.   Not quite D1 material, but darn good athletes.   These were the O and D linemen that were 6'-3", 270 coming out of high school that couldn't sniff a legit D1 offer.   Now there are a bunch of D2's that can throw partial $ at them.   Mount still has great skill people because those kids are very numerous at the HS level.   Almost every HS has a couple 5'-10" kids that can run, but there's only so many 6'-3" big kids to go around.

UW-L football program will not have interim coach

Kind of an interesting article - UWL's athletic director, Kim Blum, has declined all interview requests so what does the Tribune do?

Interview Dan Schumacher, UWEC's athletic director, who is more than willing to talk about how great his candidates are and that he anticipates a hire the second week of January.

UWL is looking to have someone by mid-February.  I hope that Kim Blum has a great plan for hiring a coach.  There were some question marks surrounding her hiring, and this will be a good test of her abilities.

Many of those Ohio programs listed were NAIA previously rather than being brand new (and new competition in recruiting). Including Findlay, who played in the 95 and 97 NAIA title games. So that waters down the theory to some degree. I don't know all the details of what type of offers they were previously able to make, but still...

HScoach

Some yes, but the NAIA was rarely enough $ or high enough stature to make a difference.  At least in Ohio.  Can't speak outside the state.

Regardless,  UWW  has overtaken Mount and is beating them with their own tactics.   Quite interesting to see as I always assumed the Mount run would end because LK retired and the program fell apart.  Not because someone caught up.  Well done UWW.  Well done.

Trump says there's no 'H' in Uuge.

Must give credit where credit is due--Ohio Northern beat us at home in 2005.  That was our last regular season defeat.  I'll take 10 more years!

Hmm.
I'd take a big and great O Line any time. However, I don't believe a team must have the best line in a game in order to win it. A Good sized O Line w solid technique should enable a talented team to compete, and despite any constriction in the flow of big O linemen to Mt, the athletes keep coming.

I do think line play will play a huge role, and turnovers usually do as well. However, I will add big plays to the top of the list. Mt can make big plays without a great O line. Mt can offset turnovers by making big plays.
Mt didn't lose in 2011 because UWW was the dominant force on the line (it was a draw) and I don't think Mt lost last year due to UWW outright winning the LOS (Mt had higher yards per carry).

There are several other factors that I'm sure many can come up with.

D-Train, fwiw, Findlay also beat us 9-0 in '79 on the way to winning the NAIA title.  We then beat Wilmington, Oh in the title game in '80.
