I don't know if this is old news, but I saw it on Twitter just now...

"After initially planning to walk-on at Buffalo, former Watertown All-State QB Tarek Yaeggi will instead head to UW-La Crosse."

Yaeggi's father used to play for La Crosse he may even played with Schmidt their new coach.

Yep. Bears get Sommers.  Packers sign Wesley's Joe Callahan.

UWEC's O-lineman Isiah Cage signs a free agent contract with the Indianapolis Colts...

Cage is really good. I was talking with a defensive player on UW-W after the Eau Claire game and he said, "He's really tough. He got me a couple of times. I think he got a lot of us today." By his gestures, I think he was talking about pancake blocks (or at least dominant blocks). He won the respect of the Whitewater guys, that's for sure.

Comes with a $7,521 signing bonus, and these base salaries, according to his agent Ron Slavin.

2016: $450,000
2017: $540,000
2018: $630,000

Of course to get the 6 figure amounts he's got to make the team first.

On another note cubs, do you know anything about a "heated dome" with a turf field being built at UW-O this year? I came across an article for a Titan LB recruit by the name of Jacob Pollina from Grayslake, Illinois and he mentions this as one of the reasons he "signed" with Oshkosh.  Not really sure what the young man means by dome (my imagination sees anything from an oversized tarp with sideline heaters over Titan Stadium to a R. Buckminster Fuller geodesic to Jerry's World), but I couldn't find any mention of this on the Osh athletics website or in their Campus Projects in Planning Stage or Constuction Stage, but maybe I missed it.  Maybe it was just a slick and creative recruiting trick. Have any insider info?
No clue whatsoever....  This would be the fist I have heard of it.

That looks pretty cool.  I can see where it coupled with the program's rise would be incentive to play there.

Kumerow:

I'd love to see Kumerow make the squad and get some legit playing time. And I have a hard time not seeing it happen, barring injury. When coaches and fellow players are speaking highly of his drive off the line, for a 6'5" WR, that just speaks volumes. Combine that with his work ethic and the fact that he'll get to do this damage against lesser DB's because of A.J. Green, that seems like a winning formula. #d3fb

OK boys and girls, spring semester Coaching Football 101 final exam essay question (which parallels the UWEC situation, just a bit):

If you were a new coach coming into a situation where the team has struggled for the last three seasons, and 0-10 last year, in a tough conference, would you rather:
A) Have a kid for your first three years who blossoms into a leader and pretty good player, who then graduates and signs a pro contract as a free agent?
or
B) Since you are pretty much starting from scratch. albeit with the returning players, would you rather be able to focus on that kid, who has just graduated and signed as a free agent, as a recruiting tangible to maybe get players for your first three, four seasons as a coach?

Bluebooks are due Wednesday at 5 p.m.

Carry on, ladies and gents....

So the question is do you want a player or a talking point? I think most coaches want a player. Players are on the field and tangible. Talking points are nice to have, but much more difficult to produce real results. Besides, in the first option you eventually get all the benefits of the second option, plus the player on the field in the near term.
