Teeples picks off a pass with 0:01 left  on UW-P's final drive.  UW-L wins a good tough game 28-21.

UWEC 23 UWRF 3

Blugolds up 13-3 at half in a rather close, defensive game. Two Falcon turnovers in their own territory in the 3rd quarter allowed the 'Golds to score 10 and put it out of reach...

Both defenses played well; Blugolds, however, were able to score on a big, back-breakers, a 38-yard TD play when they went for the home run pass right to Matt Evenson after the second Falcon turnover, an INT, in the 3rd quarter. Seems to me that's what Whitewater did last week on Blugold turnovers... Hummm... Also, a sidenote - Blugolds wanted the ball against Whitewater last week, when they won the coin toss. This week, they opted to kick off against UWRF...

But the Blugolds were able to manage the clock and ball most of the game this week with an efficient ball-control, quick-rhythm pass; receivers made a couple of nice grabs above the head to keep some Blugold drives alive...

MVP was the 'Golds kicker, Craig Kolb, who tied a team record in booting three field goals, including a pair of 41 yarders...

Falcons, trailing the whole game, ran the ball 43 times for 112 yards, vs. 16 pass attempts...With that kind of ratio, they might as well go back to the wishbone...

It was a picture-perfect day at Veteran's Memorial Stadium beneath Grandad's Bluff in LaCrosse. A feisty and underrated Platteville Pioneer squad gave the Eagles all they could handle, before falling 28-21. La Crosse had turnovers on all of its first four posessions, and trailed 7-0 before getting untracked and scoring 14 points. The Pioneers tied the game at half,  and it was 21-21 until La Crosse QB Schumann tossed the game-winnng TD in the final 3 minutes. Converting a couple of desparation throws for first downs, Platteville was in the game until Steve Teeples' int. on the last play of the game. The crowd was large, the weather magnificent, and it was as good a game as I have seen in some time. LaCrosse, however, will need to step up next week if they hope to have a shot at winnng the WIAC "game of the century." It should be exciting for all involved.

Congratulations to the UWW Warhawks!!

Another great show by the defense.  Justin Beavers is back in form also.  Next week should be a great game!!

Brian C -
UWL's Teeples is playing like an All-American...

Grew up three blocks away from Memorial Field. Always loved the atmosphere on game day, if we, as kids, weren't sneaking into the Indians/Eagles game. We'd be playing tackle football, pretending that the PA announcer, who was calling out the results, was actually doing our game...

Should be a great ball game next weekend...

How long is Stout going to keep this coaching staff?
I may not have much to say, but I'll say it anyway.

Nice summary of the UWL UWP game. I could not make it but listened on the radio. It was murder not to be at Lacrosse. All I can say is Ouch, so close but so far! As to UW Stout, I am sorry for being so snakebitten. You have a good coach, be patient, You almost ran Meiercourt out of town, prior to him turning it around. I like your current coach more than him. Good game UWW, the so called best offense in the Conference did little for 3 Quarters. I predict they will attempt to run it up next week against UWRF. I hope UWRF wins. more later, going to work!

Mr. Downtown

So is Platteville a lot better than many thought?

The WARHAWKS defense was outstanding holding the conference's leading rusher to 26 yards on 21 carries.  After his first carry was good for 9 yards his other 20 only netted 17 yards.  They also picked off 3 Pointer passes and allowed 218 total yards, 87 of those on a single play.  Point's offense basically had one play and  one drive of 10 plays for 75 yards and it came in the fourth quarter when the game was already decided.

Offensively the WARHAWKS were very balanced totaling 383 yards, 192 rushing, 191 passing.  Justin Beaver led the way with 146 yards on 25 carries.   Fullback Travis Reuland had three touchdown runs.  Tightend Pete Schmidt led receivers with 5 catches for 30 yards and a touchdown.   Playing this balanced will make the offense difficult to scheme against.  You can't really focus on any particular aspect or individual.

Now comes the most difficult challenge of the season to date, LaCrosse.  Almost 7000 fans saw the WARHAWK win yesterday.  The student body is showing up in large numbers and we're expecting an even larger crowd next week with the game having been designated Homecoming and the Hall of Fame game.   Plus LaCrosse always travels well.  It has the makings of one hell of a game.

Brian and I know a young lady who used to baby sit Teeples.

I think we will be at Whitewater next weekend.

While the UWP has the most beautiful stadium, with 10.000 seats, the Perkins stadium might need all 11,000 seats in the 2nd best stadium in the WIAC for the UWL game. I hope it is the first sell out in Stadium history, besides drum and Bugle Corp competition.

I vote Stout for the the  best stadium in the WIAC...

Bulk19--I agree. It's been  apparent from the get go that this new Falcon offense does not produce. It was possible to blame poor production on the change for a game or two, but both Anderson and Wolfe are not going to come close to the yards gained out of the wishbone last year, and the passing attack, billed as 40% of the offense this year, doesn't come close to that. Wolfe gained over 900 yards on the ground as a junior and Anderson well over a thousand. So far, the offense has no touchdowns scored in two conference games and it's been the defense which has kept them close for at least a portion of the time.

It's not been a fun year to be a Falcon fan.
