What a game. Defense played tough and the offense put it together when they needed too.  Hopefully Wilbur will get a little extra practice time under center this week and figure out how to hold on to the ball, but he made some good throws. I hope the question of the starter was settled today. Now it's on to LaCrosse who ain't scared either.

Chris Nelson did limp off the field under his own power...any idea his condition?

Cole has problems with short yardage plays -- like 4th down QB sneaks!! The ball went right through his legs -- how was that possible?

No doubt. La Crosse will the be the 6th consecutive team that UW-W has played that is undefeated when the game kicks off. The first five had their first loss 60 football minutes later. We shall see if the trend continues.

What a great win for the Hawks! They overcame uncharacteristic mistakes and got the win against a very good team.  There is much to clean up, but winning consecutive weeks against three really good and highly ranked teams is a tremendous accomplishment. Today, Morningside beat the #3 team in the nation (NAIA) 69-7. The way the Whitewater schedule plays out and with the improvement of the WIAC, this year has the feel of an eight week playoff run before the playoffs even start!

Today had the intensity of a national semi-final game. And what a crowd and atmosphere! While the Hawks need to continue to strive for consistency, one thing is becoming increasingly obvious.  UW-W is a very difficult football team to beat.

Uncharacteristic in most years -- this has not been "most years" unfortunately. The need to get better is paramount.

It's hard to even tell if Morningside is that good or these other teams are that bad. NAIA is a joke of a division.  They were leading 62-0 at the half...good grief.

Morningside was definitely good.  They had athletes, size and speed.  They would be competitive in our league.

The Hawks came into the game tied for sixth in the nation in turnover margin. I'm staying with uncharacteristic

Here's hoping it's "uncharacteristic" anyway.   Despite a favorable turnover margin we've got to clean that up.  We shouldn't be messing up center snaps.  That's just too fundamental.

Maybe it's already been mentioned but yesterday's attendance 17535 set a new DIII single game attendance record.  I've been going to games in the Perk since it was built and I've never seen a crowd that large.  People packed into the stadium and on the surrounding hillsides.  Plus the Titans traveled really well.  That was the largest visitor's crowd I can remember.

The crowd was great. I think towards the end the crowd helped the defense. It was great to be in the middle of the crowd during those last couple of d stands. Once again I think that some of the QB issues still come from the rotation and nerves. I think these will disappear over the next couple of games. We have to have a passing game, UWO stacked the box because we are a little too predictable on offense. I expect that to change as Wilbur gets more playing time. We have to be able to throw successfully on first and second down

As far as I know, Chris is just fine.

KitchenSink

He was walking around on the sideline with his helmet on afterwards. Not sitting.   He looked like he was fine.
What the hell was that?  That was a Drop-kick.  Drop-kick? How much is that worth?  Three points.  THREE POINTS?!

I'm going to get really bold here and predict we clean that up.

It could also be the ranking that is a joke, too. The NAIA isn't very large, either, so a Top 25 in that association is a huge portion of the membership -- it'd be like us having a top 70 or something.

Of course, No. 3 should be a good team, regardless of either of those factors.

Kind of bummed I couldn't make it out Saturday, to be a part of the largest crowd in DIII history.

Perkins Stadium: 17,535  :o

Was a very fun atmosphere.  Even the standing room spots were pretty full, with lots also sitting on the grass hillside.  And pretty much everyone stayed until the end.  Of course, the concession and bathroom lines were less fun ....
