The 2nd place team in Morningside's conference (GPAC) is Doan (9-1). They are ranked 5th in the country. So you'd think they have to be pretty good right?  Their only loss (of course) came to Morningside, 69-7. 69-7!!!!!

That's basically equivalent to UWW playing UWO. Never in anyone's wildest dreams would UWW win that matchup by 62 points. Never!! In fact, never would UWW win any WIAC game by 62 points.

I realize MHB beat up on Linfield pretty bad in a top 10 D3 matchup, winning by 39 points. But this was a 62 point win. Unreal!

I absolutely agree with your overall point. but the red comment above isn't really true.

Congrats to former Warhawk Ben Farley for leading his former high school, Brookfield East to their first ever WIAA state Division 2 Football Championship in his first season as head coach. His Spartans defeated Monona Grove High School 42-36 at Camp Randall Stadium in Madison. Farley had a great football career of his own, he played 4 years at UW-Whitewater and playing on the 2007 Division III National Championship team. He was also nominated that same year as an Academic All-American and was named second-team All American at defensive back.

I got to officiate a Brook East game in September. Was lucky enough to find a minute when Ben wasn't in intense preparations before the game.  IDed myself as a Warhawks alum and fan and we had a nice chat about the Perk and Virginia and Pierre Garcon. Ben was very affable.

Actually so was Max Wasikowski at Cudahy. He asked me at halftime of a game for my thoughts and I suggested the QB sneak where the fullback grabs and throws the QB forward. Also a down to earth guy.
What the hell was that?  That was a Drop-kick.  Drop-kick? How much is that worth?  Three points.  THREE POINTS?!

Safe travels to the UW-P team and fans.  Looks like the weather is getting ugly in west central MN today.  :-\

Duffman;  I"m pretty sure this team doesn't have any fans.

UWW's been pretty generous this year to many receivers.
3 went for 100+ for Belhaven
1 for 270 and 1 for 100 for Morningside
2 for 100+ (and 184 for one) for UWP
2 for about 150 each for UWL
1 for 130 for UWRF
1 for 100 for UWS

I expect the Lakeland guys are pretty excited.

TCNJ's leading receiver went for....52 yards!!

It certainly seems that way.  :-[

Sounds like Collegeville got about 8" of snow yesterday.  Winds are very gusty, but hopefully, they slacken a bit before noon.

Great day to watch D3 football, lots of intrigue.  Had three games going at all times.

palum

Platteville lost a. heartbreaker today. St. Johns scores a TD as time ran out to win 32-31.  St. Johns went 80 yards in the final 2 minutes to get the win. There is some controversy on the MIAC board because apparently the refs didn't allow St. Johns to attempt a PAT after the winning  score. Platteville proved it belonged in the playoffs today and Oshkosh could have its hands full next week.

That UWP at St. John's game sure was exciting.  I read a pregame comment somewhere that the game would come down to the last possession, right you are.
Although there may be debate on the final TD call, I give credit to St. John's D for stopping UWP on their last two possession.  After UWP's interception, they only ran off 28 seconds as St. John's burned all time outs.  Just one (or one more) first down in either of the last two possessions and the game is over.
Congrats to both teams.

They were salivating ... and two of them are now able to be added to this list.

Defense also gave up it's second 90+ yard touchdown pass of the season (probably a record, but I'm too lazy to look it up).

Don't know what nickname Lakeland has for their QB, Michael Whitley. But, if it was up to me, I'd call him Timex because he took a licking but kept on ticking. That young man looked like he was ready to collapse at any moment, maybe playing possum, but I don't think so. Seemed to be hurt all afternoon but kept going and making the UWW defense look silly at times, other times we was getting killed.

Took a peak over at the NAIA and Morningside finished the regular season 9-1 (#5 in the polls).

Their first round game is Saturday as well.

Mustangs trounce Tabor 65-17

Fifth-ranked Morningside advanced to the NAIA Football Championship Series Quarterfinals with a easy 65-17 first round victory against No. 12 Tabor.

Whitley took a beating.  If you had asked me in the second quarter, I would have said no way he will finish this game.  To his credit, he did. The pounding never stopped him from pulling it down and running, either.

It was a good win for the Hawks. Survive and advance. The positives included:

Josh Ringelberg became the fourth different back to gain over 140 yards rushing in a game this year.

Chris Nelson played well in difficult conditions. Three TD's and an interception that was thrown right into the hands of the receiver, only to bounce off right into the hands of a defender who returned it for a touchdown.

The first team defense gave up only seven points.

The Hawks had six sacks on the day.

Most importantly, the Hawks survive and advance. There are six starters who did not play today that are fully expected to be able to play next week.  Getting healthy at the right time.

bp, I was wrong about Josh Ringelberg, you were right.  He played a great game. Too bad his own lineman nearly took his head off on that one rush. Thought he might not return, but he did.
