Very interesting to hear how many defensive calls actually originate on the UWO sideline.

Great work by Pat to pick up on that being said and asking Coach Cerroni more about it.
Assume it was in the Podcast....  Care to elaborate for those of us that didn't listen?

You still can!

The Stagg will be really interesting to watch as both teams have different styles.
IMO, Mt.'s rushing success was due to the high level quickness of BJ Mitchell.  UMHB is very fast, and BJ was the one guy that could match/exceed it from a quickness standpoint.
I don't imagine UWO will try to get outside too much, will they have the power to create lanes on the interior?

I feel I saw the UMHB D line a bit winded at times.  It's understandable given Mt's no-huddle and BJ's and Davis' running.  I think UWO will be no-huddle as well, can they get those D linemen tired out?

Will UWO's defense have the quickness to stop Jackson?  I think they will have the discipline.  I was amazed at the disciplined rush UWO employed against JCU.  Three man rush most of the time, keeping the QB contained and maximizing coverage.

I was hoping others had heard it also.  Basically, the LB's are making the calls, defensively for UWO.  Cerroni said about 5 calls came from the sidelines, the rest from those LB's.  Included in those calls was the decision to blitz JCU on what turned out to be the final play of the game:  A sack of Moeglin by UWO.

I thought maybe JCU had time for two plays into the endzone?  But that sack was a walk-off.

I was just listening to the podcast.  Coach Cerroni was asked if he'd contact UWW for some advice on Stagg Bowl prep.
I will keep myself from reading anything into his answer.
Glad to hear Coach LL may be of some help.

So if Oshkosh wins big, are we all comfortable saying that John Carroll is the 2nd best team in the country? Hope that happens!!  :)
Who remembers who is second?   :)

The only ones to care who is 2nd are those that have never been 1st.

In fairness, let us not forget Alexandre Daigle, 1st overall draft pick, in the 1993 NHL Draft. When asked about being drafted Number 1 over Chris Pronger, Daigle said "nobody remembers Number 2."

One of these players went on to have a HOF Career, the other.... did not

Emma--in a game that close, with that much at stake, a coach would consider not using all his offense?  I seriously doubt it.

Every game gets a different game plan right?  There are lots of things that decide what the game plan will be for each opponent.
Coach C was interviewed at halftime and he said the team that wins will be the one that doesn't  make a mistake. UWO may very well have thought the best way to beat JCU is to employ a conversative, ball control offense focused on field position. If that was the way they thought this game would be won, then maybe you can see how/why a team might not "use all their offense".  Some plays are more susceptible to mistakes than others.
Perhaps UWO will feel that next week they will need to take more chances against UMHB in order to be successful-if so you'd likely see some different plays.
That's just my opinion though.

You make legitimate points.

Oshkosh fans, this post is a lot harder than last week's was to Whitewater fans. I just want to say, Congratulations on the Win. It was a helluva game, and an experience I'll never forget. And with the exception of a couple bad eggs ( ;)) you were all very classy. Even at Fox River before the game (I promise, I had no idea that the event was happening, I just wanted some craft beer at a Microbrewery before the game), everyone was friendly, and kept walking up to our group (obvious former players) and talking about what a great season we were having.

The chips did not go our way on Saturday, but I will say, Oshkosh was very well prepared on how to play the game, and I can honestly say that I believe you also have gotten better since our Week 1 Match-up.

Good Luck this week. I look forward to playing for some revenge next Labor Day!

QuoteIt's understandable given Mt's no-huddle and BJ's and Davis' running
LINFIELD ran no huddle and had a 5'8", 205, back with good back ups.
UMHB had seen that.

Mitchell is a significant upgrade from the Linfield running game.

I thought he was too.

You saw Spencer Payne play several times over his career. Never quite had that 'Mitchell could go at any time feel."
Still <3. 2595 - Spencer Payne (445-2595) - 2013-16> 3rd career rusher at LINFIELD.
<3. 4959 - B.J. Mitchell (739-4959) - 2013-16>

But then, you think of us as a quarterback school.  :)

Maybe it's because I'm reading this on my phone, I don't know what these numbers are showing.
If they are comparing a Linfield RB to Mitchell, IMO stats would be irrelevant.
Mitchell's lateral quickness looked superior to any other backs I've seen in the playoffs for a while.

OK, Emma.
Payne was not the back Mitchell was statistically.
He does/did have lateral quickness.
Even so, he did not do what Mitchell did.
My point was MHB had seen the hurry up with a  quick back - who they limited.
Being 3rd all- time rusher at Mount and LINFIELD seems significant.
