You are correct. But how many national Championships have they , the Iowa conference won in Basketball or Football. Not may or none in D3. The real issue is that teams in NCAA  D3 should either play teams in neighboring conferences, or within 1 hour of each other, to save money and improve competition. Also, inter conference play would better access team ratings. It is just not an Iowa -Wisconsin issue. Other than 2 years ago, When did St Norbert play anyone recently in the WIAC? They hosted UWW and got kicked. Why don't they play Oshkosh or UWSP? This issue is getting critical, with so many teams needing games to get 10 games, If you want to be the best play the best. I will take some medicine, but you cannot ignore may teams in The WI, Iowa ,Illinois and Minnesota region, ducking each other I enjoy your website and keep up the great work!

If you can't ignore an insult, top it; if you can't top it, laugh it off; and if you can't laugh it off, it's probably deserved.

Coe will scrimmage us but not play us in the regular season. By the way, we killed them in the preseason scrimmage. While these schools duck us, we get to play great teams like Augustana and Drake.

Who is ducking who.  With the enrollment numbers the WIAC schools have they should all be DII or DI-AA.  Your teams like Eau-Claire with 9230 students lose to Alma with 1249 students.  That is pathetic.  So the WIAC is a bad DII conference and chooses to beat up on little guys all the time.  Kudos to you.  Your smallest school is UWP 5050.

Here is a list of random schools I looked up.  None of them have even half as many students as the WIAC's smallest school, all have higher academic requirements and all cost at least twice as much as the WIAC schools for in state students.

Milsaps, Albion, Carthage, St. Norberts, Concordia Wis, North Central, Carroll, Mount Union, Alma, Capitol, Depauw, ONU.

So explain your argument again about ducking appropriate competition. :o
I'm so happy 'cause today I found my friends. They're in my head.  I'm so ugly, that's okay, 'cause so are you!

Mr. Downtown

hmm...private schools vs public schools...I do wonder which one will be cheaper! I'm amazed that public schools have more students than the private schools because in the midwest every family is doing so well, and they only put one kid in college at a time, that every kid should go to a private school!!

Ok, being very sarcastic here. You can't tell me that every team wouldn't mind having a cupcake here and there during the nonconference season, a la Lakeland College. Get some wins, get some confidence before the conference season begins.

Honestly, if the WIAC offered scholarships like the D-II schools do, I think the WIAC would still be successful. For example if a star running back at Oshkosh West gets a scholarship offer from both Madison and Oshkosh, but knows he will start and play in Oshkosh, that he would stay home, Oshkosh would get a star running back, and their team would improve. I think, that would happen to Whitewater with Madison kids, La Crosse with the Minneapolis area, etc. IF the WIAC was a D-II conference, I don't think it would be a bad D-II conference.

Pat, I have a question. How much does a loss against a D-II school hurt a programs chances of making into the playoffs? Let's say, they finish the year with two losses, one against a D-II school, the other against the #2 ranked school in the nation, would that team still get some consideration for the playoffs with two losses?

Thanks guys, and enjoy homecoming today, wherever you may be.

The Iowa Conference has one football title. The Wisconsin Conference has two football titles.

Basketball is hardly germane to your argument -- you should try to stay within the realms of what we're talking about here.

Downtown: yes, UWO would get considered in that circumstance and probably would get in. That presumes a win against La Crosse and Oshkosh being the No. 2 team in the WIAC standings, of course. A D-II loss isn't supposed to hurt.

Personally, I don't think university enrollment numbers are a good argument.  Notre Dame had a 2005 undergrad enrollment of 8275.  They beat up on teams every year with 30,000+ students.  Another interesting enrollment statistic is Mount Union's....they have a student body of 2334.

At the risk of letting some WIACers play "Whack-a-Johnnie" as I stick my head out here......

I watched most of the UWW/UWL game at "The Perk" today. It never seemed to really be in doubt with the Warhawks having their way with the Eagles, with only a few bright spots for the visitors. A few impressions. Beaver was truly the dominant player on the field, and when they needed a play on offense, he came through. Teeples kept Stanley pretty much under wraps, although Stanley did have some big plays, and probably was underutilized a bit. Schmitt was open almost all the time. The Eagles tried to use the long ball, and had some opportunities with that strategy, but it is fairly low percentage, and they went sideline maybe too often. They didn't seem to have a plan though. Maybe they could have used the stretch game to open up underneath, but they didn't seem to try that much. Down on the goal line, I kept looking for them to use the fullback, #45, who bulled over a few tacklers when he had the ball, but they made a pass play that didn't look like it was smoothly run at all. All in all a good day in Whitewater. Congrats on the record setting crowd.

Just a couple things to set someone off. I know you like your stadium, and it is nice, but you have to remember that SI picked Collegeville as one of the great places to watch a football game, so don't get too high on your horse. Also, St John's leads D- III in attendance almost every year, with a much smaller student body.

I'm not sure about the point about the NFL scouts looking at Stanley during the season. I always thought that that was a good time to watch a player, when he was actually playing, rather than wait for the season to be over. Just MHO.

What was the score last year when the war hawks played the St. John Johnnies? I am not sure but the War hawks won.
However I know they did not Monkey Stomp the Johnnies like they did the Lacrosse Parrots I MEAN EAGLES. However they still need to clean up the penalties, as they had way too many of them. Especially of the holding variety.
The eagles looked totally out of sink, and their offense was stuffed by the war hawks for the majority of the day.
I firmly believe that they war hawks are on their way to another WIAC title in 2006, and I hope that the Johnnies have to make a trip down to Whitewater again to feel the wrath of the War hawks.
As I think they will be a number one seed for the west region.
Next week we have Platteville, and the only game that really scares me is the trip down to Texas, as it will be much warmer down in Texas then it will be in Whitewater before they leave on Friday, and they can not simulate the weather that they will see in Texas.
However I will also go on record saying that the weather will not win or lose the game, and I will never use that as an excuse.

I recall that the Warhawks did have an official MONKET STOMP against the Johnnies, 31 - 7. (or was it 31 - 10 - OLDTIMERS disease is setting in prematurely) After having someone interpret the last post, all I can say is that I would pick UWW to beat the Johnnies in a rematch this year. The Johnnies are still trying to find their mojo, and the Warhawks have it.

One thing though, Do the Warhawk fans have to do the "BULLS**T" chant on EVERYpenalty against them? I thought the refs got it right at least a few times, don't you? Save it for when there is a bad call, it cheapens the whole sandwich.

Stout has an easy, cakewalk blowout win this week   ;)
Not really, ha, as they have another nailbiter in a Stout 14, UWEC 6 win.

Blugolds did give the homecoming fans a bit of a breather at the end (compared to the rest of their games this season, right? ha), when the 'Golds last drive stalled. Devils' defense stepped up, forcing the Blugolds to turn the ball over on downs. Stout was then able to run out the clock in the last minute.

Stats were fairly even. Stout scored on its first drive of the game, and the crucial game-winner on their last, before running out the clock. 'Golds scored on a blocked punt TD.

Sounds (I listened on the radio) as if it was a well-played game, with both defenses playing great. Question for the Devils fans here: Say the 'Golds score on drive when the Devils recovered the ball in the end zone. Puts the 'Golds up 12-7. Put your coaching hats on - If you were the Blugold coach, and knowing how well both defenses were playing, would you go for two to make it 14-7? If so, pass or run? I'm not sure what I would call, and not sure if they would have made it anyway. Just playing the guessing game here...

I know it doesn't matter, and is a hypothetical, since the Golds didn't score. Just wondering what you guys would do, considering the Golds did miss an EP, and were also stopped on a crucial 4th and 1 late in the game, too... What would you have called against a Stout D that was playing so well???

Well Voice did ask if Perkins Stadium was Camp Randall, and that's something they do at Camp Randal. Along with the YOU F*** up chant that the students made.
That's why I truly enjoyed my trip to watch Nebraska play two weeks ago; the students don't do anything but watch the game. No chanting or anything, and a 1'2 hour before the game everyone is in their seats.
That is not the case at camp Randal or Perkins Stadiu7m as 1/2 the home stands were still empty a 1/2 hour before the game. The Lacrosse side was pretty well packed all game, from 12:30 until the end.
Okay well the Warhawks Monkey Stomp the Parrots I mean eagles, and it was a long time coming. As the eagles MONKEY STOMPED the warhawks several times in the 1990's. Including 1994 when coach Brezowitz went running after Roger Harring because he thought that Lacrosse ran the score up on the Warhawks

A big blow to the Warhawks' title hopes. Front page has important update.

Aw, geez. You hate to see kids get injured.

As one who had the pleasure of watching this outstanding athlete play last year, even though my team got beat, I wish him a speedy recovery.

Good luck, Whitewater, on the rest of your season.

Falcons finally win a conference game, 20-17  over Point. RF took a 14-0 lead in the first quarter before Pointers finally woke up to the fact they'd have to play harder. They did, rallying to 14-10 by half time. Still, RF never lost the lead altho Pointers outgained Falcons 383 to 323 (approximation).

RF finally developed some deception and diversification in their O, benching Anderson most of the game in favor of Beau DeBruin, who got the nod from the coaches because he hits holes better than Anderson has been doing.

Jeremy Wolfe passed for one, ran for one and generally played his best game.

Next week:  Stout at RF homecoming game at  Ramer Field.
