I believe the old saying "one game does not make a season" but that said there is reason for concern... our big line seemed slow and there was not much push...QB play was below par...team speed appears to be lacking and in general there seems to be a need for more athletes on offense and defense....watch games on my computer each week so to removed to comment on coaching...Over the last few years our high school has had no players attending UWW due to out of state tuition demands hopefully in the next few years this will turnaround. Hope to see the Warhawks turn it around Saturday...Pound the Rock OLine...

Sakman, you make a good point about overall talent/speed. It's hard to tell if a drop-off in talent exists, especially if you read/listen to Coach Bullis' comments. In preseason he told us the O-Line would be one of the best in the nation and the receivers are faster and will stretch and open the field. 1.2 yards per carry against IWU.
Coach has been around the program for a while and should know talent.
This weekend will tell a lot of the story for what's in store the rest of the season.

Certainly hope Coach Bullis is correct and the talent will show this week with a convincing performance...I have followed UWW since 2002 when my son started his red shirt year and attended every game from 2002-2006 except one...I saw the exceptional players that were brought into the program then and I wonder if we are recruiting at that same exceptional level...Certainly it is more difficult with many D3 schools improving their facilities and programs...UWW still has a very good rep in our area but I don't see much recruiting activity from UWW...Hope all goes well against Concordia...Pound the Rock...

Whitewater set the bar in recruiting. They saw the type of player they needed to recruit to compete with Mount. Coach Cerroni has talked about how Oshkosh's success now allows them to recruit a different type of player. Oshkosh and Platteville have tapped into the Chicagoland market extensively. North Central and Wheaton have improved their recruiting efforts in order to play at the level that Whitewater has set. There was a time when Whitewater and Mount had talent that was head-and-shoulders above the rest. Coaches, by nature, are competitive. They all knew the only way to compete with Whitewater and Mount was to recruit players that can compete with the players on those teams. Not all programs can compete for the same recruits, but those that can have really started to do so. It makes for more parity at the top and will elevate the upper echelon of D3. When I played, LAX was the top dog in the conference and won a couple national titles. They had the best players. The other WIAC (then the WSUC) coaches would come and tell us that we had the opportunity to knock off the best. That is what is happening now, even at D1. Notre Dame used to be one of the few schools that recruited nationally. Now Michigan and others are having scouting camps all over the country. If coaches want to win, they will go out and find the best talent. The talent gap in the WIAC and nationally is closing.

Well...I think we're seeing an end of an era here. It's been an unforgettable historic past 10+ years of whitewater football. It's hard to be upset. ..it was fun while it lasted.

When was the last time UWW started the season 0-2?  Watching the game I noticed much of what some of you had posted about during the week.  Again the inability of a UWW team to get in from the 1 is mind boggling.

1999.  Started 0-3.  Lost to Lambuth, Hardin-Simmons and Western Washington.  Finished 3-7, 3-4.

Turn that frown upside down, Wisconsin!  It's not all bad in the land of cheese and badgers.

Hey how about that Stout might have a football team.  I guess time will tell.  Maybe they can finish the conference mid pack, which they used to do more often before Platteville and Oshkosh started fielding real football teams.

I was worried that a WW loss to Concordia-Morehead could  hurt the WIAC on selection day. Now after Stout's win over ST things aren't looking as bad as I thought they would.

I am too. But go through the conference undefeated and that takes care of itself. Tall order, but maybe. Only way into the playoffs right now for the Warhawks is the AQ. Lose one in conference and they could be where Oshkosh was a few years ago. 7-3 with "good" losses on the outside looming in.

Congrats to stout on the big win. Enjoy that as long as you can.

A pretty darn good day for the WIAC, except for our Hawks.
I was on a 12 hour drive home from Canada so I was able to see pieces of some games.
UWSP had a good and tough game vs Albion, I was impressed w both teams. Albion can play football.
Congrats to UW Stout on the biggest win of the day.

UWW is certainly on the ropes given the conference foes. Besides UWO and UWP, UWW will likely struggle against UWSP, UWL, UW Stout and UWRF. Like last week, they showed no indication they can handle these conference foes.

I hope the players can come together and show future recruits UWW is a contender.

It was a great run from 2002 thru last year...It was awesome to be in the stands watching the great players for that period...Never had as much fun as when we followed UWW around the country from 2002-6 and then watching them achieve numerous championships ln the following years...My hope is they can achieve these heights again with a new recruiting intensity over the next few seasons...In my opinion UWW has amazing facilities, super school, and a fantastic tradition but the rest of the conference and the country has caught up and passed them talent wise...Pound the Rock...

Ran out to the park for a bit with the kids this afternoon and came back home to discover that my best friend's wife, a Stout grad, was VANDALIZING my home with these Blue Devils signs and chalk graffiti everywhere.
She put about 10 of those signs on various windows, doors, and even on my recycling bin. And to think, these friends joined me for Tommie Johnnie last year and were doing the same this year.   :P

The strange UWW numbers after 2 games:
Passing:  43-73 for 499 yards.
Rushing: 70 rushes for 164 yards and a 2.34 average per carry.
Fumbles: UWW 6 and 5 lost. Opponents: 1 and 1 lost.
Interceptions: UWW 1, Opponents 0.

Turnovers are an obvious issue, both giving and failing to take away.
Yards per carry is another obvious issue.
The run/pass ratio is 49%/51%.
Is the ratio big picture intentional or just game specific?

Run/Pass ratio short history:
2017: 49% Run
2016: 61% Run
2015: 65% Run
2014: 57% Run
2013: 55% Run

There are lots of factors that drive the ratio, including the level of skill UWW had at QB and receiver in 2013 and 2014.
