The football-track quinella happens quite frequently in the WIAC, as does football-baseball, even basketball-track. Football-basketball is indeed rare.

I remember it used to take Jake about a third to half of the season before he was over any lingering football dings.

In hindsight he may have been a safety.

I remember Jake Wolter as both a good athlete and a good guy. I had a "Twitter relationship" with him in which he was always gracious responding to my compliments and I felt the same way after a short pre-game conversation with him on the edge of the court in RF. Good to see he's in WW HOF.

I vaguely remember All-WIAC QB Nate Wara going pulling off the basketball-football combo for a season at UWO.

Not exactly what you're discussing, but there is a WR or TE playing in the NFL who played basketball, not football, at UWM. Can't recall who or what team, but I'm old.

Plus karma just for taking the time to research that.

A big shoutout to newly hired Defensive Coordinator, Dan Bauder @CoachBauder5. Coach Bauder comes to our football program with great experience and a fiery passion for the game of football. #SwingTheAxe

Thanks BW. Although it's a good story, it's not as cool as playing both sports back to back.
Not sure how often it's done? I believe a UWW player did it back in the 80's- he has a son that just finished his football career at UWW.

I think one of the other conference schools recently had a basketball player finish w a year of football at WR- maybe it was UWRF again?

Kruser (sp?) at La Crosse did it recently.  There have been others as well.

Not sure about anyone in the 80's but Jake Wolter was an All Conference corner back on the football team and an all conference hoopster on the basketball team in the early 2000's.  He played the two back to back two seasons if I remember correctly.  He was a hell of an athlete and recently elected to our HOF.

Wow, congrats to Jake, I wish I'd seen him play.
Jack Diechl is the player from the 80's. I don't know that he played the sports back to back, it may be the same situation as Herink from UWRF.
Didn't Chris Davis do basketball and then football for UWW?

Yes. He joined the football team after his basketball eligibility was up.

I'm all about history, but you guys are unnecessarily digging into history when it comes to two sport players at UW-W.  Shannon Sanford, a freshman from Milwaukee Washington, played on both the football and basketball teams this year.

It was a fun trip down long term memory row at lease.
Shannon Sanford, he's even got a two sport sounding name.

UWO Titan 78

It is nice to see the Titans fill out their schedule this early. They've had to really scramble for opponents in the past few years. The non-conference schedule is very good. At Carthage to open the season, and then at two DII schools (albeit ones that combined for a 2-19 record) should prepare them for the WIAC slate. The motto this year will be ... "Road Warriors." The Titans won't play a home game until 10/13, and only have three home games for the season. It seems like a daunting schedule, but I'm confident that with where the state of the program is, they will have another successful season. Hail Titans!
