Greg Breitbach gets the call at UWSP. Had been an assistant there 03-06. Most recently, he was HC at Millersville, a DII that never achieved much success under his watch (or anybody else's to be fair). His departure from there was a "mutual decision". Some DI experience too.

Congrats to Coach Breitbach and UWSP. I hope to see the program do well.

Now, back to the important conversation of fishing and especially Walleye. Where have all the Northern WI, i.e., Eagle River area Walleye gone? Unless my fishing tactics have gone the way of the  betamax, there has been a marked decrease in numbers.

You aren't the only fisherperson flummoxed by the missing walleyes in up-north lakes. Most theories I hear seem rooted in rising lake temperatures, which link to rising populations of warmer water species, which link to higher predation rates of walleye fry.

Yep, good luck to the Pointers, but I think they're in for a "rebuilding" season. There's talent on the roster -- might not be quite ready for prime time, though.

You mean those Dirty Bass!!
I saw a Minn Kota - Humminbird ad today. I don't imagine the advancements in fishing technology has helped our favorite fish either.

There are still a couple lakes in the Oneida/Vilas County are that are producing some walleye, although to be honest, I spent little to no time fishing them this winter/spring with how good the walleye bite was on the Winnebago system.

With that said, just landed a 34 inch musky off the dock at 9:15 PM tonight fishing up by the in-laws just west of Rhinelander.  Caught it on a small bluegill!!!

We will look for the Walleye in 10 days when we head up to Eagle River.
Nice catch on the Musky, bluegill and crappie make for some good Musky bait.

Benedictine transition to DII has been approved. Why post this on the WIAC boards? Because it's now the geographically closest football-scholarship-offering destination (besides D1s) to three of the best WIAC programs. I think it'll steal some talent. It is, however, a multi-year process for the Eagles. I'm not sure when they'll actually be offering football skollies and playing a full DII slate.

bleedpurple

Hope it works out for them.  Plenty of talent to go around.  In the meantime, as they transition to D-II, maybe they will look to upgrade their schedule.  I'm sure we'd be happy to play them any time they want over the next 20 years or so.

UW - La Crosse announces recruiting class...

https://uwlathletics.com/news/2018/7/17/football-team-announces-recruiting-class.aspx

82, they certainly have the numbers.

Key-ripes!!! That’s a lotta kids

Looking at their roster from last year I counted 81 potential returning players.  With 82 recruits their preseason roster is approaching Mount Union size.

Trudat. I guess they're pretty happy about the dissolution of WIAC roster limits. Wonder how many of those kids might've leaned toward another school had they known they were part of an incoming class that big. Anybody know how UWL plays the gray-shirt game?

In any case, that's quite an incoming class. Gotta assume there's some quality in there, enough to make the case that the UWL football turnaround is not a flash in the pan. Eagles on the rise...
