Down 30-7 at half, Pville wins 59-44.

I don't think it was 30-7, but they had a great second half. Two entirely different halves of football. UWP blocked two punts, stuffed the run on D and opened holes in the running game.
Congratulations.

It was 37-17, but yeah. Great second half.

I shut it off at half. At that point, I'd have put a nickel on ETBU scoring 100 before I'd have put one on a UWP win. Big win for the Pios!

Between UWP/ETBU and RM/JHU, this looks like it has the chance of being a great season! Let's hope the rest of week 1 doesn't disappoint!

The first half of the third quarter was like a UWP propoganda movie. If I remember right, it was opening drive TD, then D Line dominates the line of scrimmage, blocked punt for great field position and TD, then another D stand with tipped pass interception for great field position and TD. 38-37 UWP.
ETBU did answer w a score to take the lead again. At that point I figured I'd better down some Tums.
But that was all she wrote for ETBU.
UWP has a lot to build from.

That's a quality win, and one I didn't expect with a kid under center who had never thrown a collegiate pass before. Hopefully ETBU does some damage down there this season.

It was a great win particularly the way it happened.  The team showed a lot of grit coming from behind like that.   But I have to wonder if the staff is calling it "quality" when you've given up 44 points and looked like a sieve defensively for half a game.  At any rate congrats Pios, nice win.

Trudat. My point is that ETBU is pretty good. They averaged 49.6 pts/game last year and took UMHB to the wire. It's a win that could matter plenty in November.

Here's my 2c on Carthage:

They play really well at home vs on the road. They return 17 starters including 9 on  the #2 ranked defense in the CCIW. On defense they are physical and aggessive. Their Defensive line is WIAC type physical. Very difficult to run on them and they will pressure you regularly. 7 of their top 8 DB's are back and they are athletic. The led the CCIW in takeaways last year. They can hang  with UWO up front and will pressure them. The big question is can Carthage score. They want to run the ball and throw play action. They have had a physical running game but return just 2 OL. Their QB is efficient (14 TD's and just 2 INTS last year). I doubt they can control the LOS and probably don't have enough playmakers on offense. That means their defense, which is designed to stop the run and get turnovers through pressure, will eventually give up big plays.

I expect UWO to play solid D, frustrate the Redmen and eventually solve their defense (which is how Wheaton and NCC beat them last year). However, if UWO turns it over against a very good defense, and it gives Carthage easy points, Carthage may surprise. This game is a much tougher opener than it may appear

My two cents:   Oshkosh will drill Carthage. Possibly by a monkey stomp.
UWO never reallly solved Carthage D, which is one of the better one's, but their D solved the Carthage O, knocking starting QB out of the game and controlling things down the stretch. Nice win against a very good Carthage team

Falcons 41, Minnesota Morris 0. The big positive out of this game was that coaches got a good look at many new players they had not had a chance to evaluate. Minnesota Morris may not win a game this season.
