I keep trying to forget that but it seems to be brought up from time to time. Coppage was a hell of a player, no doubt. Thanks for the reminder! ☠🏈

Hey MUC, I didn't mean to rub it in on you. Besides, you can just think back to last year and be happy all over again.
Coppage was great no doubt, but that play happened because every UWW player (except the QB) got a "hat on a defender".

Understanding there are six regular season games to be played after this weekend, IMO Saturday will tell us whether the UWW offense has reversed its three-year skid. With three games under the belt, a bye week, a senior QB, strong Oline and talent at RB and WR, now is the time to see consistent production. I'm not as focused on points as I am down and distance situations, third down conversions and taking what the defense doesn't want to give them.
Very much looking forward to this game.

So...run into the 8 man box and throw into the nickel?

I'm not catching your drift, or reading between the lines, or picking up what you're laying down.

So put another way, the time for excuse making from the offense has passed. When UWW was playing for national championships, defenses tried to stack the box to stop the run and tried nickle and dime to stop the pass, yet somehow the O controlled down and distance, converted an effective % of third downs and typically won the field position game.

Them's da things the dub's got to get back to doin.

Yeah I missed the days where we could run, no matter the defensive alignment. Remember 4-5 years ago our running backs were getting 8-9 yards a carry in the second half....breaking the will of the opposition. Glory days of UWW offense.

Ahh the good old days. My favorite was the 2010 Stagg. UWW clinging to a one score lead, but facing 3rd and 6 from their own 25 yd line. If Mt stops UWW, they get the ball back and enough time to score and win. As I recall, Mt put 15 defenders in the box- UWW only went w 11 on offense. The world knew what was coming, but just like my balding head, there was no stopping it. Coppage takes the handoff, a slight step left and bursts through the line of scrimmage, out running whatever defenders that weren't being blocked, for a 75 yard, nail in the coffin TD.

Same here. Favorite all-time UWW moment.

What ya' say Saturday we start creating new moments! Go Hawks!

Damn... had to go to a party at halftime. Looks like missed the offensive fun.

La Crosse finished with 158 yards of offense, 112 of which came through the air. They had only 46 total yards in the 2nd half.

"That's one of the best defenses I've probably ever seen," Schmidt said of Whitewater. "They're going to win a lot of games defensively."

We're going to have to if the offense can't put four quarters together.  Outstanding second half but less than pedestrian for the first.   Fortunately we have the size and depth to just wear teams down.

Can't even point to stats now, BW, unless it's a record no. of interceptions  :)

The family made the trip up to UWL for the game, Shrine visit and Oktoberfest celebration- it was a great day all the way around.

The UWW D is really good. Very fast all around the field and D line is relentless. The D should ensure UWW is in every game.
The O had a great second half. They finally ran a slant route, resulting in an 80 yd TD in the third quarter.

There is no hiding this offense just isn't the style of offense we saw during the championship run. I think they have the players, the scheme/philosophy is just very different. I think UWW had 69 yards of offense in the first half. 69 yards on I believe 25 plays.
The offense was dominant late in the game as in the old days, but I doubt this is a pace that will work against UWO and other really good teams.

UWO will be a real brawl I imagine. The UWO offense put up impressive offensive numbers, their expected improvement seems to be in motion.
I wouldn't be surprised if the combined total points don't exceed 17.

Agreed. Really, really good at every position.  And I'd be shocked if there is a better D-III cornerback in the country than Famus Hasty. Spieker is one of the most talented players in the conference and UW-L's other receivers are no joke, but they couldn't even get a step of separation on Famus. #lockdown

UWO Titan 78

The passing games of both my Titans and Bears seem to be intertwined. Both made significant steps forward this week. I  hope they can keep things going!

OK, UWW D looked fine, but that UWL offense looked thoroughly discombobbled. Let's not forget that the UWL OC departed during the week. Anybody know the circumstances there?

Anyway, no big surprises this week, except at Stevens Point, IMO. Couple of missed FGS, couple of picks, just too many scoreless trips deep into UWP territory for the Pointers, but they otherwise played the Pioneers toe to toe. Watch for UWSP to mess up somebody's season

emma17

I'm a big fan of UWW running back Alex Peete (and Ponick too). Alex had 27 carries against UWL and his longest gain was 9 yards. He's had 81 carries in the season, with a longest gain of 16 yards. I think this is unusual. I've looked back a bit at some previous years and it's really hard to find a game where a UWW running back didn't have at least one run of 16+ yards- every game.

I'm sure there are many reasons.
