Great day at the Perk. I normally feel sorry for opponents when UWW is doing its thing, but UWO was in need of a butt whooping- and they came to the right place.
I think it was Titan 78 that felt the UWO coaching staff would be an advantage. Well not today. I will give them the benefit of the doubt in that this UWO looks nothing like their teams of the last few years from a talent perspective, which may be why they did some of the things they did. The fake punt was odd. Although at that point in the game they may have felt the UWW offense wasn't much of a threat. They finally had a drive going I think in the 3rd w Todarello at QB doing the Wildcat thing. They drove well into UWW territory, got a first down, and promptly switched back to their standard offense. The UWW D sent them back from where they came.  That game could have had four more quarters added to it and UWO would still be scoreless and under 50 yards rushing.

The UWW defense was as dominant as I've seen. Henschler is beyond good.

The defense is stifling (18 net rushing yards, .5/attempt; passing 5.1/attempt; 3 sacks, 12 TFL), but truth be told, Oshkosh has few, if any, playmaking weapons on offense this year. Dom Todarello looks like a completely difference player w/o players around him to distract attention.

Henschler was unblockable, except when the Oshkosh TE got flagged for targeting on the QB scramble the only time the Titans were threatening to score. Hope Henschler made it through that OK, he got nailed pretty good in the face.

BTW, bleed might have to confirm or deny this one. The box score on DIIIfootball shows Jarrod Ware making 2 FG & the XP's for UWW. Did he also miss those two chip-shot FG's early in the game? They were so easy, yet missed so poorly that the only explanation could be that a non kicker made the attempts. Thought Ware is injuried and out for the year. The TV said it was VG, the guy with the hard name to pronounce or write, making those kicks. Who really was that kicking yesterday, bleed?

No, it was our kicker.  Kickers miss from time to time. I just watched Mason Crosby miss 3 first half field goals. Both are good kickers and will be just fine.

It was fun to see Jake Kumerow taligating at the Perk on Saturday.  Hopefully, his brother Derek will be ready to go next week. Once he is healthy and gets the rust knocked off, he will be a difference maker for the Hawks.

UWO Titan 78

That was a dominant performance in all phases of the game by the Warhawks. The game could've been ever more lopsided had the Titan D not played well early. I think it was clearly evident that the Titans are lacking playmakers on offense, and the Warhawks just have more talent at this point. With a lack of offensive playmakers, the Titans were forced to attempt to sustain long drives to put points on the board. The Warhawk defense is too elite for that to be a recipe for success. I think that UWW has a National Championship defense. The offense is still a work in progress. I don't think this team is as dominant in the trenches as the National Championship teams have been. I also don't know if they will get consistent enough performance out of the QB position. But I think there is more than enough talent on the team for deep run in the postseason. The Titans defense is probably good enough to keep them in the hunt for a playoff spot, but will they score enough, and is a two-loss team (even though one is against a D2) going to get in the playoffs? They will need to bounce back quickly as Platteville comes to town for the Titans' home opener.

Jake's injury is causing him to miss a big opportunity.  He very likely would have been on the field yesterday if it weren't for it.    :(

Boy oh boy, that was a fun game. We were tailgating with JT Parish's parents, as his daddy was a former teammate of mine, along with (namedropping here) Kubiak, David Berlin, Todd Peterson, Pete Shippee, Brad Arnett, Eric Melka, and a host of others as well as Kumerow hanging out. It was great seeing so many old friends and I know Kubiak is on this page, not sure if the others read this. The rain quit right before kickoff and the weather turned out great.

The game? Well, the Warhawks definitely left points on the field and the score really should have been much bigger. That defense is no joke. Very well coached. There were no enormous studs inside like a 300 lb Tamsett, but they could all move well and the heavier Oshkosh linemen did not seem to bottle them up at all. Great flow to the ball, being where they needed to be to plug the holes. Some very interesting and risky calls by OW-O's coach put them into jams when they failed. Warhawks should have been up 21-0 at the end of 1.

Offense made some big plays, especially to Parrish. Some really great throws and catches for big yardage. Those were the kinds that UW-O usually made on us. OW-O offense started making some nice plays in 2nd half, but were killed by missed, bad throws or penalties.

Hopefully, they can just keep improving on offense and stay focused through the rest of the brutal conference games to be ready for the guys in purple waiting in Minnesota and beyond.

Are they back? Are they for real? We will see.

Got a couple kinks to work out but I think it's safe to say Whitewater is back to being Whitewater. For Oshkosh, it's a matter of getting themselves in the tournament now. Will 8-2 get the job done? The D2 Davenport team they lost to early is now 6-0, fyi. The D is stout, but it's clear they're no better than the second best team in the WIAC now.

No doubt that's the case with their defense. But I don't think their offense is quite as good as when they were making annual trips to the Stagg Bowl.

But yes, they are definitely in the driver's seat now for the WIAC.

Just the stats

ICYMI 18.1 percent of the Saints' players on the field when Drew Brees broke the all-time passing yardage record once played in the WIAC. Platteville's Dan Arnold (85) and Stevens Point's Ryan Ramczyk (71) were lined up next to each other on the play.
