Hey Fred Falcon, now that you have those fancy new facilities, are you going to feed us radio guys this year or do we have to wait til after the game for beer? (you buying, of course)

Hello Pointers,

In a couple of weeks I'm coming to SP for a football game.  Is there anything I don't want to miss while I'm there?  I've never been to the state of Wisconsin, but I am certainly looking forward to it.

As far as the football game, it will be interesting to see how the two teams match up.  While I think the Cowboys should prove to be a formidable opponent, they lost a lot of key players to graduation last year.  Their depth last year has allowed them to fill most of the holes but depth could be a problem this year.

It will be interesting to see what the HSU coaches have in store for us this year.  Historically, HSU has been more of a passing team.  However, last year, because of an outstanding runner, Lance Moore, and a tremendous offensive line, they became a run first team.  From what I have heard, they have a couple of running backs that should be able to hold their own.  In addition, the Cowboy quarterback is beginning third year as a starter and six receivers return who all saw quite a bit of playing time last year.

On the other side of the ball, if a couple of people step up, the Cowboys should be very comparable to last year if not better.  The defense is very fast and generally does a good job of getting to the ball.

Again, I'm really looking forward to the trip to Wisconsin.  If any of you have any suggestions about places to dine and/or and sight seeing, let me know.

Cowboy,

As far as the site-seeing is concerned...  If you head west on Highway 10, you can see... lots of cows.  If you go east, you'll see... yep, more cows.  If you head south, you'll see some cranberry marshes, with a few cows mixed in.  There are woods to the north (aptly dubbed the "Northwoods") and, if you do drive, watch out for deer, running across the roadbecause they've repopulated since last year's hunting season.

On a more serious note... if you're looking for a good meal, check out the Hilltop Bar and Grill.  It'll probably be pretty crowded, being a game day and all, but it's good, as an Pointer fan will tell you (Oh, that's on Highway 10, heading East out of town, before you get to Interstate 39.  It, appropriately, is located at the top of a hill  ;D ).

For after-game festivities, Stevens Point has many fine drinking establishments.  Lots of people go to Partners, which is pretty close to the stadium... because it's close to the stadium.  At night, check out "the Square" in downtown SP.  There are a whole bunch of bars with reasonably priced... beverages... that should make your Stevens Point experience a good one.

And it'll help you drown away your sorrows when Point beats you!  :P
(Sorry, couldn't help myself.  It really should be a great game.  And I really DO hope you have a good time in Point, there really isn't THAT much to see, at least I don't think so, and anybody else, from Point, or that's BEEN to Point and looked for something to do, feel free to interject, rebutt, add, etc, etc to what I've written ;)).

stoutguy--I dont remember saying that the new facilities had anything to do with beer, bars, or me buying. Also, as I remember, the last time I was all set to buy (again!), you jumped on a bus out of town right after the game. Nonetheless, bcuz it would be good to get together, how about some golf at Spring Valley with the "usual suspects"?

Hey Pointspecial,

Thanks for the reply.  Might have to check into the dining and aftergame festivities.  As far as the cows are concerned, I've got my share around here, I believe I'll pass.  However, you may have helped me make up my mind about a rental car though.  Here's to a great game by everyone, even the Pointers.

Fine, just sit there, don't move.

You need to put the text of your message between the two [moves]

Very cool, Pat.  I love the scrolling message.

Cowboyz1, bring your golf clubs and play SentryWorld.

LaCrosse has been dominant for the past few years and until someone does something about it they'll be picked.  It's really simple and has not a matter of mind games, imo.  Coaches respect winning and that's what LaCrosse consistantly does.

falconforlife

Excellent point Warhawkguy.  La Crosse has been the team to beat the past few years.  No one has been able to do it yet so rightfully they should be picked as preseason favorites.  HOWEVER, having playe din the WIAC for 4 years let me say this; ANY WIAC team can win on Saturday.  The teams are always very evenly matched and it usually comes down to who makes more mistakes.

For example, the Point / RF game last year.  Point may have been the better team but they made more mistakes and RF beat them.

It is a great conference to both play in and to watch.

Good luck to ALL teams this year
Canference picks:
1. La Crosse
2. Eau Claire
3. WW
4. River Falls
5. Point
6. Oshkosh
7. Platteville
8. Stout

Do you really think the new logo will take them to the top?  ;)

What do the LaCrosse fans think about their game with SDSU.  Will the game be close?  Looks like a heck of an opportunity for the Eagles.  I hope they make the most of it.

I really doubt UWO takes it all, but they have almost everyone back, so if they are ever going to do anything, it SHOULD BE THIS YEAR.

Mr. Downtown

Oshkosh WILL improve this year. Coach Meyer is really excitied about Joe Patek. He might not be able to run all over the field like Wara did for the past three years. Though, Patek is a much better passer. Which of course, will open the offense up for Oshkosh.

Now,  Falconforlife....I really wonder why you have Point all the way down to 5th in your picks? And then have Falls ahead of them. I don't know about you guys, but at the media day, even though the coach was humorous, they have no answers to any questions for the upcoming season. Hmm..sounds kinda like the Green Bay Packers right now. I guess I get a chance to see first hand, seeing that I do broadcast the game on TV between River Falls and Oshkosh for the WIAC opener (under the lights too!  :) ). Two teams that are improving, and will get out of the cellar in the WIAC. Though, I don't think its going to be this year, these two teams really should make things tough, and interesting in the conference race. But I cannot have Falls, nor Oshkosh ahead of the Big 4 (Lax, EC, Point, WW), until they FINISH ahead of those 4.

blugold45

Forget about Oshkosh winning this year it will two or three more at the least.  It's going to be EC and Point duking it out for the championship with Platteville close behind, mark it down!

Eau Claire 2005 champs!
