Voice, big ups homie.

UWPSUPERFAN, keep writing.  Your posts are hilarious.  You need to stop hanging out with doclittle.

roocru

I don't know about everyone else but I have been very pleased with the overall lack of obnoxious posts by UMHB and UWW fans on both this board and the ASC board.   This shows class by both sets of posters. :)

At Tiger Field in Belton, fans are allowed on the field after the game.   I propose that perhaps all the posters from both schools who are at the game should meet in the south end zone after the game to put faces and nicknames together and visit a little.  There may be some of that with some tailgating prior to the game, but this will give everyone a chance to meet at the same time for some fun and fellowship.    ;D ;D ;D  What do you guys think?  ???

This will especially help me since my 5 hour drive from Corpus Christi that morning will get me there just about game time.    :(
Anything that you ardently desire, vividly imagine, totally believe and enthusiastically pursue will inevitably come to pass !!!

Brian told me when Voice was speaking during the Whitewater/La Crosse game.

I have enjoyed his informative posts and my thoughts are with him and his family and friends.

give me some Warhawk numbers to say otherwise.

I did my homework a few days ago and used the two teams conference standings to do a little comparisons. Now, I am not entirely comfortable with this as it is apples and oranges, something I gave Raiderguy crap for doing very recently but it is all we have.  This is also the reason that I was looking for info on the depth and stength of the entire ASC, top to bottom, to get some perspective on how it compares to the WIAC and what the numbers really mean.

Standings in the WIAC as of 10-21                                                  Standings in the ASC

UWW                                                                                                   UMHB

Total offense                1st      423.0 yds/g                            6th              307.7 yds/g
Rushing offense            3rd     189.1 yds/g                            1st              201.0  yds/g
Rushing defense          1st       35 yds/g                                 1st              16.4 yds/g

Both teams rushing offense and defense are amazingly close on paper...............Both may have trouble running the ball in IMHO.

It may come down to who has the best luck airing it out............................

Passing offense  WW       1st            233.9 yds/g                     UMHB        9th         106.9 yds/g

Total WW offense yards                          1324 rushing     1637 passing
Total UMHB offense yards                        1407 rushing     748 passing

UWW's offense hasn't been one-dimensional since 2004 and that is the reason for last years success.  They have many weapons and can take what the defense gives them.   AGAIN, just numbers and they don't mean a thing on Saturday but it is fun to look at.

nice post, only one thing to skew your stats with the exception of the TLU and the CNUgame, MHB has started many drives inside their opponents 40.  SRSU 5 of 12, McM 7 of 17, HSU 5 of 13, LC 8 of 17, MC 4 of 14.  The large majority of these yielded touch downs, and many of them started between the 25 and 35.  The result of this has been blow out wins in which the other team has more time of possession, more first downs, maybe even more total yards.  Statistically, MHB looks like they should have been killed until you see the punt block or the field goal block or the punt return for a touchdown or even for just 40 - 50 yards giving great field position. So raw stats probably don't tell the whole tale for either team.

Voice, On behalf of the Blue Devils best wishes for a speedy recovery.

The WIAC Post Patterns board won't be the same until you get back on here!  :)

I want to send my very best wishes to Voice for a speedy and complete recovery.  Our thoughts and prayers are with you.  He and his web site have been an incredible addition to Warhawk football.  The boys have one more thing to play for this weekend.
roocru,
I agree that I have noticed how respectful the tone on the board this week has been and hope my contributions reflect that.  That is why I like to use stats at times to make a point although we all know they can be inconclusive as mhb8904 has pointed out.  But I find comfort in comparisons made using some basis of fact regarding the teams that will take the field this Satuday and not the ol"    "my team can beat up your team," or "we will win cuz we have a winning tradition," arguements.

mhb8904,
Great point.  Sounds like your special teams have been great contributers to UMHB's success this year.    Blow out games would be one explaination for why UMHB has run the ball so much more than they have passed it.  I am hopeful that it is just because they can't throw it very well.. ;) :D ;D  Like the Crusaders, the Hawks have had their share of blow-outs and enjoyed some terrific field position in many games this season thanks to a great defense and  special teams.   But UMHB's stats in that department sound impressive.  Should make for a terrific game.

Lastly, regarding which team enjoys more speed, no way to determine that until the whistle blows.  WIAC teams in the past have had the knock on them for being big but slow.  Doesn't apply to this team.  Plenty of speed AND size. It is what got them to the Stagg Bowl, IMHO.   That and their balanced offense.  As retargent pointed out, they had no problem handling the Johnnies last year, a program who is consistantly known for their speed and athletisim.

It is easy to be critical, when your team is doing well. This applies to You, Captain Kurt, and somewhat to the Janesville Flash! As to DOCDoolittle, I do not care if he blogs anymore then you guys. Is not he allowed to be forgiven, if he did wrong in the past. Janesville Flash, are you obsessed with what cars people drive.  I can trash with the best, but do not compare the Superfan with others! God bless all of you..

Superfan---So what kind of car do you drive, or do you ride a burro?

footballfan413,

I don't know if athletic is theadjective I'd use to describe the UMHB team as a whole.  DOn't get me wrong there are plenty of athletic players, but this team is a grind it out, physical squad.  I described them at one point as looking like they're doing nothing and at the end of the game they've rushed for 160yds.  It's not always exciting to watch, unless you're a fan  ;)

I think the likelihood is that these are two pretty evenly matched teams.  I would not have said that at the beginning of the year, but the team seems to be coming together at exactly the right time to make a playoff run.  As to the question of passing, they can, but they don't very often, maybe 10-15 passes /game.  Just enough to keep the other team honest.

One of the things that has been special with this team is that they don't just use the pass to open up the run but use it as an equal and important part of their offense.   Lucky for us, it has resulted in alot of TD's.  To me, the most amazing stat comparison is the rush defense which has a great effect on a teams ability to grind it out.  UMHB......16.4 yrds/g......................UWW............35 yrd/g.         Yes, UMHB's is better but both are unbelievable good at stopping their opponents running game.  It will be interesting to see if UMBH can be a, "grind it out,  physical squad," against a rush defense that seems to be equal to theirs.   I agree with you that they look to be very evenly matched.

IPS, to the UWW Fan, that said they should have gotten 70 on UWP, dream on! It was our hard hitting defense that caused all of the turnovers. We just did not take advantage of enough of them. Also. it was a game in the first half!

UWPSUPERFAN, your hard hitting defense allowed 49 points.  Your hard hitting defense gave up 21 first quarter points.  Your hard hitting defense didn't do enough to win the game.  It was a game in the first half?  Attention moron....there are two halves in football.  Throughout the duration of both halves, your hard hitting defense got their asses handed to them.  Jesus may love a football team that can only play one great half of football, but I sure as hell don't.

UWW has a very potent defense nonetheless.  However, I do see a blaring hole that may cost them in the playoffs....    Just as a previous poster stated, UWW's defense is known to give up the "occasional long ball."  Their run defense is definitely top-of-the-line.  Their pass defense is ranked fairly high in the conference, but I believe that is due to their tough Dline and blitzing linebackers.  UWW's secondary is not horrible, but they are lacking compared to previous years.  Their corners are listed at 5'11" and 5'6".  Like I said, this may end up being their demise.  UWW does not have a Teeples (UWL), Radtke (UWO), or Fitts (UWS) that has the potential to make big plays and keep opposing receivers under watch.  Garcon may tear them up again this year if they face off in the playoffs....

P.S.  Sorry for turning this into the "Whitewater board" again....

WIACfootball

Speaking of defenses.... what is going on in Oshkosh??  In their last game against UWSP, they held the Pointers to 24 yards rushing on 19 attempts (Childs - 13 yards, Borchart - 6 yards, Robinson - 5 yards).  #2 scoring defense (16 ppg), #1 pass defense, #3 rush defense, #2 total defense in the conference.  Given all this, their record is 4-4??  The only place you really need to look to answer this question is under the "turnover margin" heading.  While standing #3 in the conference by forcing 20 defensive turnovers, UWO still has a negative turnover margin.  The UW-Zero offense has 21 turnovers - 5 more than the offensive turnover runner-up(s)!  It is a shame to see a defense that can excel like this with only a 4-4 record.  I definitely have a defensive bias when it comes to football, but this is obvious to anyone, i believe.  That's where I come to the old saying "offense wins games, defense wins championships."  But in UWO's case, you can't even BE in a championship if you don't win the games leading to it.  Great season UWO defense, I just thought you deserved some recognition...
