Titan 78,
I'm real interested to hear how COD does vs. those JV teams. My ill-informed opinion is they'd do very well. I'd think they'd do well even against the varsity. I imagine COD doesn't have much size on los, and they lack Jr/Sr experience, but they should be pretty talented.

You would be wrong about the size at the LOS thing. My son is 6-3/260 as a true freshman and is the smallest OL in camp. They have a 6-6/315 tackle that has interest from some Big10 teams. Last years OL produced a 6-6/310 kid that has walked on at Illinois and another (6-2/315) that is choosing from a couple of FCS schools to continue his career. Their OL is very similar to top-end WIAC OL. Rolling Meadows sent three kids there this year (1 OL and our two 1,000-yard RBs). We have some history with the program, as one of our former QBs played there and is now competing for the starting job at Middle Tennessee State. The JUCO landscape has changed dramatically. COD is the only JUCO in Illinois now. When I was coming out of HS there were a bunch (Harper, Triton, Rock Valley, Joliet, etc). COD now plays a national schedule (2 Iowa schools, a Georgia school, a North Carolina school, a few New York schools and the aforementioned JVs this year). COD was 4-6 last year (they beat UWW JV 39-0, Carthage JV 48-7, and Olivet JV 23-17). The nice thing is COD really focuses on advancing kids in their football careers. If you make the travel roster, you play. They rotated 10 OL last year, 3 QBs, and a half dozen RBs and WRs. Their whole goal is to be competitive but get kids exposure. My son was one of the youngest kids on his HS team and isn't even 18 yet, so we expect a redshirt season, but we'll see. It is a really nice school too. And Glen Ellyn, IL is a really nice town. It will be an interesting year for sure.

Questions, since I'm quite unfamiliar with JUCO concept: The rationale of the redshirt season is to preserve a season of eligibility at a subsequent D1 (or D2), right? In other words, no one spends three football seasons (one redshirt, two playing) at a JUCO -- or do they? And by redshirt, do you mean the NCAA D1-2 definition, meaning you practice, and can play up to the fourth game without burning a season of eligibility? And is it accurate to presume the goal of most JUCO players is to land a scholarship at a D1 program?

Yes, a redshirt at a JUCO is akin to a redshirt at a D2 or D1. They will practice with the team. Many JUCOs offer scholarships (like those seen on Last Chance U), and some kids redshirt and then play 2 seasons at the JUCO before transferring to a D2 or D3 (5 semesters of 12 credits will get you your associate's degree and then you can transfer to a D1 or D2 and participate in spring practice). Others redshirt and play 1 year and transfer to a D2 or D1 with three years of eligibility remaining. Most players attend a JUCO with the hopes of playing for a scholarship program (even if it is as a walkon). Earning a scholarship is still hard, because a lot of scholarship programs give those out to HS players as early signees. COD had around 10-12 players earn an FBS or FCS scholarship last season.

You have a son that's 6-3/260? I was only kidding in my earlier remarks to you. I was just having fun. I didn't mean anything bad by them. I would never say a mean word about your team. As you probably know, I live in Alliance, Ohio but I'm not telling you where. Go Titans!

Oh! Best to the kid at COD.  ;D

I was 6-2/275 when I played at Oshkosh. He's got me by an inch (maybe more if he keeps growing). I think he'll fill out to 285/290 over the next couple of years.

You better take that back, MUC57. I am 5'11" 205. I run a 6 flat 40 and the last time my feet left the ground by jumping I suffered a 3rd degree tear of my calf muscle.  But I have a yellow belt in taekwando and I will FIND you!

OK, my conscience got the better of me MUC57. I apologize for trying to intimidate you through exaggeration.  I'll try to make the above post a little more accurate:

You better take that back MUC57.   I am 5'10" 210 pounds. I can run 40 yards WITHOUT STOPPING! The calf muscle tear account was spot on, but I failed my test for my yellow belt.  So technically I am a white belt. But I swear to God I will FIND YOU!!

I feel I must respond to your posts from yesterday.

I was at the library (I don't have my own computer). I had just logged on to D3football. Three big tough looking guys (I think they were from John Carroll) came up to me. They said if I didn't give them my computer, they were going to beat me up! They may have posted some stuff under my sign-on. I don't know. They may have said anything.

OK! I just made that up. Here's what happened.

My cousin, MUC59 3/4 (he flunked phys ed) used my sign-on. I don't know what he may have said. He may have said something about UWO. I just don't know! Maybe he .........

Never mind. Here's the straight scoop.

I'm in the Stark County Home for the D3football Crazed Fanatics. I'm not allowed to have visitors. You can't get to me. YOU CAN'T GET TO ME!
Have to run now. My nurse is bringing my meds. So you found me but can't get me! And that's the truth! Go Browns. (Go Browns?)  ;D

So not 100% football related, but it looks as if a possible addition of St. Thomas is no longer needed to bring the WIAC to 6 hockey teams. Just read an article on the Blugolds 2019-2020 schedule and it indicated Northland will be joining the WIAC in hockey this upcoming season.

Latest chatter is that UST football will go non-scholarship D1.

In other news.....  It's August!!!
