As far as the NFL is concerned...I will not watch on second of their season as long as they pretend that kneeling on the flag is not unpatriotic and doesn't insult millions of fans.

YOU are unpatriotic.  No one is 'kneeling on the flag' - they are protesting police brutality.  To object the way you are to peaceful protest is anti-American.  Try reading the Constitution instead of just listening to Trump speeches.

Mr. Ypsi

First, let me assure you i am not unpatriotic. I was in the U. S. Air Force, assigned to The Pentagon as a member of Air Force Intelligence. I am currently involved with several veterans groups. Hope that meets your approval!

They are NOT  in fact  kneeling on the flag. They are however; kneeling on the very heart and soul of this great Republic -flaws and all!.You say they are " protesting police brutality ". How do you know that? Nothing in the act of kneeling tells me that. Oh, you say, but that's what it always meant. I think it's a mistake to equate any protest with kneeling during the National Anthem.

I am not anti-protest. But, if you want to protest police brutality, go to a police station. Or go to a meeting of The Fraternal Order of Police. Or go to any organized meeting of law enforcement personnel. Then I would know for sure what is being protested. (And there are certainly grounds for a protest)

And I HAVE read the Constitution. My Air Force service was to help protect it! Didn't need to read a Trump speech, a Biden speech or a speech by anyone else. Your statement was blatantly absurd.

I hope you won't  object to my peaceful protest as anti-American. I am a Patriot, an American and a proud Air Force veteran!
God Bless America!

Thank you for your service!

Obviously, we have folks in our D-III community that are all over the board in terms of their political leanings. I'm a big First Amendment guy, so I would never presume to tell someone else how to post. So, this is simply a suggestion that may help us:

Maybe we could try to stay away from politics on the boards as much as possible. Emotions are running really high on both sides right now. This could be a great refuge from the craziness that is 2020 if we preserve it.  Again, just MHO.

I hope and pray everyone is healthy and doing well. Stay safe and stay thankful!

Good post, bleedpurple. I just had to respond to Mr. Ypsi. Go Warhawks!

They aren't pretending. The NFL is fully aware that many fans (and some players) are insulted.

+1 to bleedpurple. I'd prefer these boards to be mostly free of politics. We'll all get plenty of that stuff over the next 2 months.

I totally agree with you. I merely responded to Mr. Ypsi and his post. Couldn't let him get away with that!
Stay well. Let's talk football. Yeah! 🏈 🍺 ‼️

You know what else would be a great refuge from 2020? Some WIAC football. Wonder if any of the recent movement on the Big 10 might trickle down a bit... ya, logistical challenges galore, but if they can overcome at that level, why not in WIAC?

Pat Coleman

I think the obvious reason why they can overcome it in the B10 and not in D3 is resources.

But those D3 resources are sunk costs, much of which are already spent. Coaches are still on the payroll. Team activities of some kind are underway. Is it cheaper to not play football games at D3s this fall? Of course. But 2020 athletic budgets were created long before COVID kicked in. Especially at state schools, that money's just unspent. Reallocating it is difficult. And to what would they reallocate?

@ MUC, thank you for your service.

Nice to have B1G football coming soon. I tell my youth football team to treasure every day of practice. There are a lot of D2/D3 and MN High School athletes that would love to be in their shoes playing.

If resources come into it, they come in only to the extent that the Big10 has the money to buy their way out of embarrassment while D3 does not have the same luxury.  D3 administrators would have to straight out admit they got it flat wrong and can't put a money-wasting, ad-hoc set of procedures in place to give their turd of a decision to quit and run away a nice shine.

My understanding as to the primary back-breaker in terms of WIAC football this year was the Covid testing that would be required and the resulting costs.  I don't know the comparative costs of testing for Covid today as opposed to when the decision was made not to play WIAC football. But that would be one of the added costs. There are obviously also game day costs and travel costs. I'm sure there are more. But I would love it if WIAC schools were thinking about it like you are!! The void in painful!

That would be the key, because those would be costs for which there was no initial budget. But you're right, testing cost and availability are very different than they were then.
