I see UWW is going hard after the Kevin Stemke award winner (Wisconsin's top senior kicker/punter).

Not sure how to 100% interpret his tweet:

He got offered a roster spot would be my read. Looks like he also visited Stout. Didn't UWW get last year's Stemke award winner, too?

Maybe I'm putting too much stock in this award. But Why aren't the best kickers in the state going to school for free somewhere? What am I missing here?

There are very few D1 skollies out there for punters or kickers. Most D1s will only give one to a K/P every two or three years. And K/P D1 offers typically go out in January or February of a kid's senior year, so a kid like this might still get one.

Your missing how amazing UW-W is and how any high school football player anywhere ought want to play there!

From The Athletic's discussion about coaching candidates for the Tennessee job:

QuoteBuffalo's Lance Leipold has no ties to the region, but he wins everywhere he goes — and he was hired by White at Buffalo. Leipold won six Division III national titles at Wisconsin-Whitewater. He left for Buffalo, one of the toughest places to win in college football, and he has kept on winning. By his fourth season, UB was 10-4. The Bulls are 24-10 the past three years, and he keeps finding and developing big-time players.

The Vanderbilt brass really liked Leipold but ultimately couldn't pass up Nashville native and former Commodores player Clark Lea. Would the fact that Vanderbilt didn't go for Leipold deter the Vols? Maybe. I'm not sure folks around Tennessee would see this as a great fit, but they've gambled on much lesser coaches with whom they felt more comfort, and it's gotten them nowhere.

Thanks for sharing hb.

Can't imagine what these times must be like for LL.
From an outside perspective, I see going to the SEC as the professional ranks of college football. When you take the position of head coach in a conference that produces the national champion (or runner up) nearly every season, there isn't much organizational patience even for a guy that may be doing great work on behalf of the student-athletes.

Whatever he decides I wish him the best.

Looks like LL will be back at Buffalo. I guess Boise State job is open and they've been successful, but any move to a non-Power-5 school would feel pretty lateral at this point.

Boise State or the now vacant UCF spot would both be a big step up from Buffalo. The former has a long history of high performing teams and sending coaches to P5 jobs. And the latter sits in an incredible recruiting footprint. Both have a legit shot at being the top G5 team year in and year out.

My bad, I missed the news that Boise State has a guy. UCF doesn't (unless I missed that too) but it just doesn't seem like a fit. They'll hire a bright shiny (young) object, like Heupel, who was in his 30s when he was hired. And LL now has Buffalo in that tier of top G5 programs, but who cares? There's no glory in winning G5. He'd make a little more money at UCF, which will also buy far less house than his money in Buffalo will.

The other thing is the guy is now 56. There aren't many shots left. Why waste three (+/-) more years proving you can coach at a secondary level, when even if successful, you'd be less marketable to the major D1s I presume he'd like to coach?

I want to see if, given the resources, the guy with D3 roots could be the best coach in the game. IMO, his best path to a Power 6 job that has a chance to be very good, leads through Buffalo for one more year.

Apparently Meinerz is absolutely crushing it at the senior bowl event.

That's outstanding. I love the commentary "look at our guy" and "he's doing this every single snap, it's getting borderline ridiculous".
I saw an article this morning referring to his physique.

Perhaps it was this article emma - https://www.yahoo.com/sports/nfl-draft-meet-the-diii-prospect-with-exposed-belly-and-broken-hand-stealing-the-senior-bowl-show-023339689.html

He's got a lot of character too, besides the "keg" belly; Comes across in the interview as very intelligent and fun loving.

That was the photo Bobo- thanks.
Any ideas why Quinn didn't get in the game today? I heard he broke his hand but it was in a mitt- maybe that's the reason?
Quinn and UWW got lots of publicity at the game, one of the booth announcers (Siciliano maybe?) was wearing a UWW Pound the Rock t-shirt during the broadcast.

OzJohnnie

Bartch didn't play last year either.  I reckon if you're an underdog player from small school who has a great practice then it does you no good to play the game - you can only go down after workouts raised your value to the max.  Playing the game can only decrease your value, not bump it up further.  So I suspect his agent took any excuse to pull him from the game once he felt a draft selection had been secured.

At least that's what I figured last year when Bartch was pulled for a sore knee.  Wouldn't be surprised to see the same again.

Pat Coleman

I agree and we said as much on our podcast with Quinn a couple weeks ago. The practices are way more important than the game and they aren't going to play someone who is hurt or even just banged up and damage his draft potential.
