-No pool C team has ever won/made it to the Stagg (there may be one exception from CA if I recall).

This was always a nonsensical, circular argument though.

Even putting aside that the unparalleled Mount dominance, where they make the Stagg nearly every year, and have lost two conference games in the past 20 years (once to a postseason ineligible ONU team, I believe?) leaving quality, 9-1 at-large teams at home significantly decreases the chances of any at-large team winning/getting to the Stagg, which you then use to justify the system that leaves those good at-large teams at home.

I'm actually fine with the current system of mostly autobids. I've come around on it the past few years. But I've always hated that "Well, no Pool C was going to get to the Stagg Bowl anyway!" argument.

I agree with you IC, there are always a fair amount of very good one (and even two) loss teams that are omitted from the field each year. However, say if they expand the field, allowing more Pool C teams in, that will "statistically" increase the odds of a Pool C team winning. But - realistically - I don't think it'll change anything.

For better or worse, the top tier teams in D3 have a stranglehold on the playoffs. It's no coincidence only four different teams have won the Stagg Bowl going back 16 years. For the longest time it was just Mount and UWW, then recently MHB - and probably now NCC - has joined the fold as a top-tier program. Outside those four it's been almost impossible for any program to make a run in the playoffs and come out on top. In fact, in most cases (with the exception of just 3 seasons), these four teams wind up playing each other for the championship.

Yes, I'm an alumni of one of these teams, and I'm not trying to be arrogant or cocky. It's just how things have gone recently. Who knows, maybe things will change soon and the championship will be more diverse like the 70s and 80s (minus Augustana  ;) )

IL high school football playoffs enter week 2 tonight.
Check out this crazy score from a class 6A playoff game from week 1:
QuoteSpringfield football tops Rock Island 94-72
[/b]

QuoteThe Senators were led by senior quarterback and Rutgers University commit Rashad Rochelle, who accounted for nine touchdowns himself. Rochelle threw for three touchdowns and rushed for six more, rushing for 146 yards and passing for 253.

QuoteRock Island junior tailback Quonterrion Brooks was also massive on the ground, tallying 300 yards on 34 attempts with five touchdowns and a 78-yard kick return touchdown in the closing minutes.

Huge coaching mistake not to go for 2 after the TD. Almost cost them. Nice win on a nice day at the Perk.
What the hell was that?  That was a Drop-kick.  Drop-kick? How much is that worth?  Three points.  THREE POINTS?!

Couldn't see why Stout kept Borgerding in until the very end while RF had second/third stringers on D. So the qb could better hold his own at Thanksgiving dinner with his brother at RF? Or bc he could throw for 5 td's.?
Or bc the final score would look better?

Regardless, sets up possible Isthmus Bowl for RF or Oshkosh next week.

Yeah, into the wind but very makable kick. But fourth and short from the 20, and Peete was getting 2-3 yards a carry no problem. Would love to see them go as well. Oh well. Both sides missed crucial FGs.

Now they need to not let themselves get caught with their pants down next week.

Not talking about the field goal try. The PAT - shoulda been a go-for-2.
