Three players from Lake Zurich High School make WIAC All Conference list. Another player from that same team is now starting linebacker on the Chicago Bears.

Not sure if any of those players were on the team then, but I remember my high school (Willowbrook) beating LZ in the playoffs back in 2019.

I really like the LZ kid on the Bears, undrafted rookie out of Wisconsin. Had a great game for his first start.

Kaleb Blaha got screwed on all conference pick as Honorable Mention on offense. He led the league in total offense. Ridiculous!

That's pretty .... surprising. As good a passer as any, and ran for almost 1000 yards. Wow.

I would agree. He had more yards (passing and rushing), more TDs and fewer INTs than Lewandowski. Kind of surprised Evan made the list, he led (tied) the conference in INTs while only throwing the ball 282 times (3rd fewest attempts in the WIAC).  :-[

Not sure why you brought Evan into a comparison with Blaha. He didn't keep Blaha from being named first team or second team QB. Those would be the kids from Stout and  Oshkosh. It should be noted that Blaha got BOTH honorable mention QB AND 2nd team all purpose back.

You are surprised Evan got honorable mention? Seriously?  Let me start with a question.  What is the one thing all the QB's listed above him or beside him on the All-WIAC have in common?  They lost to the team Evan led.  He led his team to the conference championship. Which, even in this day of video game stats and online posing, is all that really matters.  Evan led his team to accomplish their goal.

Just because All-Conference awards are individual awards, doesn't mean they are only about the stats.  It's important to also, at least to a degree, keep the context of the overall objective of each player as well.  And the overall objective of each player is to help his team win.

My fault, I misinterpreted fred's post. I read that as he got screwed from the Honorable Mention list....meaning he didn't make it. I knew Evan made it as an Honorable mention, so I thought Evan made it over Blaha. That's why I brought up Lewandowski as the comparison.

I just knew which Hawks made it, and not anyone else.

My bad.

However I would kindly disagree with you on how players make the list. Stout's QB was first team all conference, and he had a losing record in the WIAC, and was .500 overall. He won purely on his stats alone and lost to many of the QBs he beat out for the honor.

These awards should be - and mostly are - all about individual performances and not who happened to be the signal caller when a team accomplishes their goals. I would argue the Hawks won conference based on their running game and defense (UWO game is a prime example of that, where Evan didn't play his best). A team can accomplish their goals without their QB playing great. Lew and the passing game was up and down most of the year. He had some really great games where we won because of him (MHB and UWL), but also some bad ones where he arguably cost us (UWP).

Speaking of running game, how the hell does 77 not even get Honorable Mention?!?   I love 66 getting first team, looked like a real mauler in there, fight for every yard, playing in a phone booth kind of guy, but I thought his right side running mate held is own as well...not sure that side of line even gave up a sack in the pocket this year.  I know there are only so many spots but he sure looked like one of the top 18 linemen in the WIAC this year ???

timmyturtle

sorry...its not 18, not sure what i was thinking...it's 11 (4-1st, 4-2nd, 3 - HM)...need a think here if it changes my opinion....

The LZ team with these guys graduated in 2018-so 2017 was last football year- they lost in OT in the state championship game- the captains for the team: Captains: Jack Sanborn, Joey Stutzman, Evan Lewandowski, Riley Pemstein

If you're interested, this is a link to an article from Matt Lemming covering a game when this group were juniors. Under "Players That Stood Out", he really pegs these guys.

Who picks the WIAC All conference teams?  Coaches? A WIAC committee?  Probably the coaches.

Whitewater's defense can't stop anything today. Looks like an upset special.
What the hell was that?  That was a Drop-kick.  Drop-kick? How much is that worth?  Three points.  THREE POINTS?!
