For those of you with short memories, The SJU win over UMU 20 years ago was a more surprising upset. Ask Pat.

PL-who over Rowan in '99 has to rank up there

Wasn't that a #2 (w/Blake Elliot) over a #1?

Elliot might have been one of the better D3 players...ever. Ask Pat.

Cortland wasn't even a top 10 team this year, with no 1st team All Americans on their roster.

Bleed, although I'd like to start talking the Stagg, I'm looking for clarification of something you seem to remember me doing.
You said I was critical of Kotelnicki "in his early years". I don't think I'm mistaken- didn't he only coach at UWW in 2013 and 2014? Which of those two championship years would be the "early years" I was critical of him?

Last night's Stagg was amazingly exciting, with many thinking it was the most exciting Stagg of all.
I don't have an opinion as to whether it was or wasn't, but it sure brought back memories of UWW's trips to Salem. Although none of the UWW v Mt games were decided by one point, many were decided in the last couple minutes of the game.
2007: UWW up 24-21 and at their own 25 w just over 3 minutes left in game. Beaver broke off the long run to seal it.
2008: UWW was playing catch up all game, made 4th quarter close but couldn't convert an on-side kick.
2009: Great first half by UWW but Mt ties it up at 28 in fourth. Wasn't until minute and a half left that Coppage broke off TD run.
2010: Back and forth game in first half. UWW up 24-21 backed up to own 25 w three minutes- Coppage breaks off 75 yd TD run.
2011: Lowest scoring game of rivalry. Mt had ball w 2 minutes left down 13-10, stopped.
2013: Very close at half- got out of hand.
2014: UWW up 40-34 until 3 minutes left in game. Kicked field goal to put game out of reach.

Some great games in that stretch.

You are right, he coached in 2013 and 2014, so I guess there were no "early years". And considering we went 30-0 those two years,  perhaps your opportunities to criticize were limited. I'll withdraw that statement because I don't remember specifics. Since I can't back it up, I'll withdraw that.

2013 was the WIWA year. I may be misremembering you being critical of the offense/Kotelnicki. I will give you this: I think you jumped aboard WIWA faster than 02 did!  Wow, can't believe that was 10 years ago!

I was absolutely on board with WIWA-I forgot about your clever and accurate acronym.

2012 was a tough one. Bringing this discussion to the Stagg- I believe the father of Cortland's QB, Zac Boyes, was the head coach of Buffalo State when they came to the Perk and pulled off the upset the first game of the season.

emma17

Just read the D3 column "Making Sense of It"- and I see I am late w the story that Boyes' father was the Buff State head coach- D3 on top of it.

I do think it's great for D3 the champion came from the east. Next year's rankings and seeding should be really interesting.

emma17

I saw Zach Zebrowski, son of former UWW OC Jim, won the Harlon Hill award, D2's version of the Gagliardi trophy. He's a junior at Central Missouri.
Some really impressive stats at QB.

That was an big upset, Mount was going for their 4th straight and was loaded. But that SJU team was ranked #2, had talent everywhere, the Gagliardi winner, and multiple AA's. Blake Elliot was an all time great. I'd rate this win by Cortland as a bigger upset.

I think we could all agree we could find posts from Emma critical of every UWW offense since his retirement. More specifically the lack of slant passes!

Well, it's like his great uncle used to say, "Don't stop beating that horse until it either wakes up or is truly dead."

Okay, you both earned positive karma, I laughed aloud. Like my grandma Nellie used to say- if you can't laugh at yourself...you need to clean your mirror.
