I will fight anyone not from Whitewater

Can't we all just get along.... I was asked the other day by a former St. Norbert FB Player about talent in the WIAC and I made the statement that there has been a WIAC player or players in the NFL since 1986.   I'm fairly sure that statement is fact, if I'm wrong let me know.

LAX LB -

Do you or anybody else remember Joel (Jo-el) Williams???  He was the "original" LAX LB.  The one all other LB's should be measured against in my opinion.  Drafted by and played many years with the Atlanta Falcons (1979-82, 1986-89).  I don't recall where he played in between stints with Atlanta, but I remember he suffered a knee injury that limited his mobility.

At UWL, he was literally the "man among boys" when he played.  I think they even used him on kick-off reverses because of his speed. Imagine how strange seeing #58 (I think), a LB with tremendous size and speed, turning the corner, running at you returning kicks. As a linebacker he wasn't in the Atlanta Tommy Nobis kind of mold, but rather the Lawrence Taylor style. His game was never the same following the injury, however, he was still very good.

At UWL he was awesome. He came to UWL from Miami or that area as I remember...graduated from UWL in '78...It was prior to the Tom Newberry time. No offense to to you, LAX LB, or the other guys currently on an NFL roster (I don't think I saw you guys play in person), this guy was the best WIAC LB I ever saw since '68, the real deal, mesomorphic with great speed.

Maybe some of the posters with more "experience" remember Joel play and can add to my comments!!

Former UWW (Class of 2004) Trey Bell just signed a three-year contract with the Chicago Rush a couple of weeks ago after a huge one-game career with the Franklin Outlaws.  Good luck Trey.

Captain, as someone who is uninitiated to minor-league football, I'm just curious what this huge one game career entailed.  How huge???

As great a player Lavake was, he was a better man. I taught him in the AWANA Youth program in my former Church at Milwaukee. I know his family personally. Should have made  the NFL. Should have played for UWP! As to UWSuperior, I was at their last game in Platteville in 1991, they only had about 30 players left. I think we should recruit WI Lutheran into our conference for FB only, just like some Minnesota Schools are in our conference for Gymnastics and Lawrence for Wrestling. Would make it easier to get 10 games a season. God Bless You guys!  PS, not a current or former teacher. Us, double dipping, retired social workers know how to spell!

Hey UWPSUPERFAN77, sounds like you've been around the block a few times, just wondering if you can recall Joel Williams at UWL in the late 70"s?

Kubiack-
There ain't much fight left in that dog. Bethel knows their place in the MIAC, which is just like when they were kids, looking for the New York Strip and settling for Vets canned dogfood & telling themselves it's almost the same because it's all in the "meat" group .  8)
As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!

Sure it was all fun and games for LB's. As a d-line man it sucked.  Every play was a 5'10" 275lbs guy in a 4 point stance run blocking.  I enjoy pass rushing at least once a game ;)

Sounds like fun to me :-\

Prediction:
UWW: 160 (miss a PAT)
UWRF: -6 (They run one in the wrong way)

No matter what, that prediction is worth a +Karma!!  Now can I see that picture of you in the WW hat again.  You know, so I can recognize you at the Stagg Bowl?

Actually, just looking for the turf shoes that seem to work best on frozen ground and in the snow.   Learned that from the Wesley game last year.   ;D

Have I ever thanked you enough for the way you all throttled Wesley last year?  :D  They should have taken one look at the weather during the week and brought or bought some sholes.  Chutzpa(sp) caught up with them and SO DID UWW  AND THEY TRULY DESERVED IT! ;D ;D ;D  I'd give you more Karma, but I just did and have to wait.  Go WarHawks!!

Do you really want WLC and their 15 game losing streak in the WIAC?  I think that's a recipe for disaster.  I think in a few years you may see the new Northern Athletics Conference add football, which would likely end the IBFC.

You do all the time.  You are probably one of the greatest UWW long-distance supporters around!!  I'm a UWL fan first and foremost, but I can also appreciate other quality programs, too.  Hey, that's the truth, not some bad excuse to increase my karma.  :)

Already did tonight and so will have to wait until another night and another positive and interesting post re WIAC football.  Enjoy the snow!!  It was 78 here today  ::) ::) ::)  It felt like August--everybody running around in shorts.  Not me, of course, people that are older than dirt can't get away with doing that sort of thing!!   Tomorrow it's supposed to be like that as well, a little warm to play football in that kind of weather in the middle of November in Virginia.  Oh well, I'll take what I can get, because I think that tomorrow will be it for my guys this year.

I can also do 100 push-ups in 5 minutes.

Captain...
One less tough guy for you to fight...Oscar-winning actor Jack Palance dies at 87.
Can I assume you can do 100, two-arm push-ups in 5 minutes?  Remember when he did the one-arm push-ups at the Academy Awards???  He was pretty tough...and not from Whitewater...would you have fought him???  Inquiring minds would like to know???

P.S.  A little known factoid...did you know he was on a football scholarship at the Univ. of North Carolina before the acting bug (or something) hit him and he left for greener pastures???

Re: Joel Williams

I hopped the fence a few times to see him play at Memorial Field...

In addition to Atlanta, he played for Philly, and was an All-Pro selection one year, too, if I recall correctly...

bulk19 -

Your right, he played 39 games for the Eagles between '83-'85, wore jersey #59.

Upon further review, I believe he was an undrafted free-agent.  Atlanta doesn't list him as one of their draft choices or acquiring him through a trade.  He wore #54 in Atlanta and was their starting ROLB in '82, '86, & '87.  The Eagles didn't list him as an All-Pro with them, which makes him a Falcon all-pro.

He is the Falcon's all-time, single season leader in sack (16) and sack yards (137.5) in 1980.  Those were great stats back then.  Maybe that was his all-pro year.

Also, he returned 2 fumbles for TD's in his career, 2nd on the Atlanta all time list.

No, I am not the President of the Joel Williams Fan Club, but maybe I'll start one.
He had a pretty nice career.

I left UWP in 78, I saw him play UWP in a downpour 7-0 defeat  for my team at RD. He was on a graet team, MR Williams was great.Time to get some shuteye, as I worked last night Weather forcast for PV: 38 degrees, Sunny wind from North 10 mph blowing into home stands, Burr! Safe driving for EC fans, roads in great shape in SW WI.  God Bless!
