This last week against St. John's, we (the students) chanted an expletive and were told that the team would receive a 15 yard penalty if we did it again.  We continued to chant and nothing happended.  Does anyone know if this is a real penalty, or were we just threated so we would shut up???

Mr. 14; I'll tell you right now - KNOCK IT OFF!  Think about it for a minute... have you at all ever thought about how it might sound to the even lowly parents of the football team or coach B.?  After all, your little cheer section is right behind the Warhawk bench.

If some enterprising UWW representative or football player has not taken the time with you I will.  It is complete moronic behavior!

It's terrible to think that at this level of football I wouldn't be able to bring my family to a game at your stadium knowing the filth they'd hear.  It's precisely the reason you'll never find me in an NFL stadium.  If you think your act is cute then take it up the road, I'm sure they'd appreciate your school spirit there.  :(

Well, I'm back.  Turned out to be a 17-hour roundtrip, plus another half hour to catch up with the board.

Thoughts:

--Do the UWW fans know any chants that don't involve swear words?

You know, I thought I was the only sissy on this board but I also thought it was an unbelievable lack of class by the UWW student body to carry on with their vulgarity.

In a complete act of hypocrisy the PA announcer leads the pregame with an NCAA disclaimer warning against abusive and inappropriate language. Then we listen to 4 quarters of expletives from the UWW student section. What a bunch of morons!  It's all taking place in front of the Warhawk bench.  Why doesn't the honorable Coach B. turnaround and instruct them to KNOCK IT OFF OR LEAVE!

I have no respect for the student body or the chancellor of the school for permitting this crap.  It sounded absolutely terrible from the visitors side and I'm sure ruined the experience for some of the more civilized fans both UWW and SJU.

My advice is to clean it up before you embarrass yourself again in front of the folks from Delaware.  >:(

That's just how DustySJU rolls.

I got to spend some time on Saturday talking to Janesville Flash and his son-in-law.  Both were very nice and hospitable.  I thought that I always did a good job of supplying brew for a game but I can't hold a candle to what Flash brought.  From Leinie's Red and Honey Weiss to a New Glarus brew to "Groovy Brew" Flash had all the bases covered.  Thanks again.

Congrats to the seniors.  Thanks for a great season and good luck in your future endeavors!!

I love Johnnie football!!

May I add that I also met some very fine folks in Whitewater including the aforementioned Jeremy and Janesville Flash.... I thank you too!  ;)

I also love Johnnie Football.

Congrats to WW for a great game yesterday.  WW didn't turn the ball over and SJU did.  That was the difference in the game.  WW's O and D lines are very impressive and Kleppe is an absolute monster.

I enjoyed meeting Janesville Flash and his son-in-law.  Thanks for the beer!  ROR - if you could have attended you maybe would not have recognized Flash as he wasn't driving his Caddy and he is 100 lbs lighter than one year ago.  But don't offer him any broccoli in return for one of his beers. ;)

Good luck WW and bring the title back to the West.
Go Johnnies!!!

Read the "dressdown" just posted by DustySJU.  I think he has it right.  It is my observation that the Johnnies know how to win:  With class.  It has also been my observation that the Whitewater  folks have a ways to go in the class catagory.  I have always had a great deal of respect for you  and your WW teams.  It would seem like supporters like yourself and the football coaches and administration would like to do something about the offensive behavior that goes on right behind the WW bench.  I am aware that this type of criticism coming from a Stout guy has a certain ring of hypocrisy.  So be it.  Our vulgarity comes, at times,  right from the coaches and players.  I don't like it either and I have made my feelings  known to any one who cares to listen.  So far, no one has.

WW MUST clean up the 3rd and 4th down and long if they want to challenge Mt. Union.  Also, jumping the off-sides.  Let's not over-look this weeks games, as I think this is a much better team then last years.

Good Luck WW!

Your cornerback chanted "over-rated" at our sidelines during the game this year.  It was in the 3rd qtr while you were losing 35-0.

That alone rules out any chance of me listening to anyone from Stout.

Stoutguy, You're just preaching to the choir.  I think everyone wants to say they can win or lose with class, no one condones that kind of behavior. However, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to understand most of society, especially since the advent of the internet, including many, if not most, of the people posting messages in PP's (myself included) use classless innuendo to substitute for the vulgarity that they would usually resort to when posting in a forum like this. Since this is basically a faceless way to present ones views, I say who cares that this guy is offended by what he heard at the game.  I'm sure if he ever played the game, he would have heard much worse from the guy lining up across from him.  BTW, listening to the game on the webcast, I could actually hear some of it, too. Man, those UW-W announcers microphones sure do pick up a lot of background sound.  Did it offend me?  Not in the slightest way.  Why?  Because I realize that is where American culture has lowered itself to. Back in my day had something like that happened, some "older, wiser" adult would have grabbed us by the ear and hauled us out. Would that happen today?  Not on your or my life, I'm affraid. Is it right what they did? Read my first sentence again for the answer.
Oh, and BTW again, do you really think Johnnie fans know how to win with class??  It is my observation that they are no closer to or farther from goodness and righteousness than anyone else when it comes to this issue.  I find it ironic that it took a Johnnie fan to even mention it. I'm sure if they have found a way to win that game, this would be the furthest thing on their mind to share with the rest of us. They would all be enlightening us about how great they win with class!!

Yeah, I see what you mean.

A Stout player says a stupid, classless thing and that automatically disqualifies anyone else from Stout from having anything decent to say.  :P

Bobo, I agree with most everything you say. The only comment I have on what you posted concerns St. John's University. It is a special place and a special bond for people that have attended there, myself not included.  :-\

They have a tremendous thing going on, and I feel it does reflect in their football team and supporters at the games.

I see a huge difference between vulgarity on the field and chants from the crowd.  I hardly think Dusty is concerned about players cursing.  And I know I've been known to curse as a fan and I am sure that Dusty has, too.  Now I wasn't there, but I assume he is talking about entire sections of fans chanting vulgarities.  I could care less if you're a classless bunch, but one thing that you should realize is that people bring children to these games.  Maybe not at UWW, but at SJU, there are usually tons of kids around.  If it were your kid, would you want to expose them to 1000 drunk and vulgar college students?  I don't have any kids, but I know I would be very uncomfortable with the situation.  And Dusty has quite the brood, so the topic truly hits home with him.

Stoutguy,

"Take that, WHITEWATER."   On the radio no less. ;) j/k

Being in the pressbox I don't hear much of what is going on in the stands.  I do recall hearing the students chant "bull----" a couple of times but it was obviously directed at the officials and not the SJU fans.   If there were other, more vulgar chants directed at St. John's I didn't hear them.  None the less that type of behavior is borish, offensive and lacking in class.  Though my experience tells me that UW-WW students don't hold the patent on that sort of thing I will mention SJU's concerns to those in the athletic department.  However I wouldn't expect that we'll be evicting our student body from the stadium as a result.

It's unfortunate that some people feel the need to act like that but I don't think UW-WW is any worse than many, many other stadiums.  Personally I go out of my way to be a gracious host to our opponents, their staff and any of their fans that I might interact with.   I know many, many others who do the same.

BW- this time it wasn't bull----, it was you f**ked up, over and over, several times. My son heard it on the internet broadcast, so it wasn't something not noticable. The chants were directed not at the officials, but at players from St. Johns who had incurred a foul, such as holding, offsides, etc. This is the first time I have heard that specific chant, and they did it several times. I was going to call the AD, but I'm sure you will be able to relay the info. Thanks
If you can't ignore an insult, top it; if you can't top it, laugh it off; and if you can't laugh it off, it's probably deserved.

by the way BW, if the AD wants any info from me about the situation, he can call me. He has my number as I am in the WIAC Ambasador program.

Ok, I have avoided weighing in on this topic because I can see both sides.  College students will be college student and raunchy chants are common at all levels of sports.  UWW students seem to be singled out many times but I have heard plenty of this crap from other schools over the years.  That being said, as a UWW fan, I personally would like to see the, "you f***** up," cheer gone.  (Also the B***S chant) It is distasteful, shows lousy sportsmanship and is demeaning to the players, students and the university.  I believe for me, Duffman, has hit the nail on the head.  Too many children at the games.  That and this cheer is directed at the opposing players.  I hope that it will not take a 15 yard penalty to drive the point home to the students!  The Hawks don't need any help in that department.  Can get plenty of them on their own!!  ;D

I honestly didn't hear that but I agree it's unacceptable, shouldn't be tolerated and makes the majority of WARHAWK fans who are behaving acceptably look bad.
