DIII Fanatic

I haven't said anything on this website for a while but things are starting to irritate me.  I see some other people feel the same way.  First off, Footballfan1997, we all know who you are and you need to grow up.  You are not associated with Warhawk football, so don't try to act like it and try to bring people down, along with the program.  We know when you change your name.  It's not that hard to figure it out (hint, spelling).

Anyways...I am disappointed that Coach Z did not get the job and wish him the best of luck.  He is a great man and will surely succeed in whatever he decides to next.  Thanks for all the memories.  You had more to do with the success of UWW than people ever would imagine.

It's too bad that the program is being broken apart at the pinnacle of it's success.  Hopefully the new era of UWW football will be as good as the last 22 years were.

It is so sad to see how hard you are on Leipold who is one of your own a Warhawk.  I can't believe that you would treat an alum like this.  It is good that they didn't pick an outsider if this is how you treat a true Warhawk.

This is what amazes me most about the whining in here, too. It would be one thing if they hired Rick Willis.

Wow it's like a children's soap opera in here...As an unbiased observer that likes to read the boards, I find it reprehensible that people come on here with insults of people they have never met, and unfounded/assanine statements like "He cheated for me the entire time I was there..."  Why would someone even say that if they were a supporter of the program?

Some of the posters have been in line, but to the others...Let's grow up here people.

In the spring I'm taking a coaching class taught by Coach Z.  Hopefully he stays on at Whitewater and I can learn from him.  Additionally, I hope Z can give me a better education than footballfan1997 received.

They couldnt do much better in my opinion, but thought Coach errr AD Willis had moved on to the administratvie pastures.  Like the fact hes a T guy and would have quarterbacks drop stepping handoffs to the running backs like a boxer instead of all this nancy inside draw handoff stuff.

Don't let 1997 get under your skin, the email name that he uses is of someone that was never associated with the program in the last five years (I would know) so it is either a fake email or some random hater of Z's since he claims to have graduated three years ago ::)

How about we list it:

1. Grammatical and spelling errors
2. New email address
3. Email address is listed under a fake name or of someone that no one in the program would know
4. Claiming to be an alum but bashing our coaches on a national website
5. CREATING A SIGN IN NAME THAT IS SIMILAR TO AN ALREADY WELL ESTABLISHED POSTER!!!!!(Footballfan413 I believe it is)

Do we even need the captain to figure this one out for us ???

If you can't ignore an insult, top it; if you can't top it, laugh it off; and if you can't laugh it off, it's probably deserved.

Dr. P is a wet towel and a bit of a puss if you ask me.

Will you enlighten us? I have had interactions with Plinske over the past few years as he has been here and he does come off as shy, reserved, and rather quiet and I think that's why people don't rule out that he could be intimidated by someone who is loud, outgoing, and highly competitive like Z. Is there anything that you would like to say to dispute that impression?

So anybody who's quiet or shy is a wet towel and a puss. That's complete B.S. And that's just your impression from a few interactions. I've met most of the A.D.'s in the conference at one time or another, many of them don't strike me as loud or all that dominating.

The guy had the respect of everyone at La Crosse, and from what the coaches I know at Whitewater have said, they have really liked him there too. He was at La Crosse for probably 4-5 years, it's not like he's an alumn, so don't give me that Eagle at heart B.S. like this hire was to sabotage WW so LaX would benefit ... that's as big of a character accusation as you can make.
You don't think he spent the entire season, knowing that Brez was leaving from the start, evaluating the staff members who would probably apply for the job?

From what I remember, and I couldn't find his biography, but I believe Dr. Plinske he has a decent football background, doing some GA work for Tepper's program at Illinois and maybe playing collegiately. So he's not a complete novice to football. Not saying he's a football genious but he has a working knowledge of the game.

How many people on here were on the team when Z was hired??  I was and from what I remember he was loud animated and rubbed a lot of people the wrong way.  I was on the other side of the ball and didn't play for him directly. I'm not saying he's a bad coach but he's been there 16 years and other than the last 2 years WW has made the playoffs,  what 2 other times(1990, 1997).  Lance was also a asst. coach at UWW and while he was there WW made the playoffs twice also 1988, 1990.  So what exactly makes Z a better choice for head coach. You need to give Lance a chance.

Kubiack78 - from what I can determine, what makes Z a better choice for head coach is that he recruited many of the current players returning and that they apparently like playing for him.  I mean, that's what I read on this blog.  However, is that a good enough reason to promote someone to head coach? I like your rationale when evaulating the situation.  I hope I paraphrase you correctly, but he has been their 16 years & other than the past 2 seasons, what has he done?  The trackrecord just isn't that strong.  I agree that it is time to take things in a different direction.  Giving Leipold the reigns might just be a step in the right direction.  As for what kind of coaching staff would he assemble/retain, that is another question to answer.  I've read where most of the coaches currently on staff were brought in by Z.  Makes you wonder who was actually performing the responsibilities of head coach  ???  The assistant coaches may be good, but there are many good, young football coaches out there and I'm sure LL will be able to attract them to WW.  One last thing, I've also read on PP that some wouldn't be surprise to see Z end up on the BC coaching staff.  I don't know about you, but I would have serious reservation about that.  He may be a good coach, but, like Jags himself, there are many young guys with great football coaching resumes, probably better than Z and 15-20 years younger.  Sorry guys, I don't see it!!
Oh, BTW, I think you'll agree Kubiak, taking pot-shots at the AD is pretty laim, too.  Most of you probably couldn't pick him out of a line-up, yet have no trouble basically calling him a wimp and a retard.  Get real, ok!!

EagleAlum,
I know that he probably did spend the entire season looking for a replacement.  What happened was that he probably did want to hire stan but he had the same outside pressures from the community (dlk) as brez and the rest of the so called panel did.

The only reason I think the guy is a wet towel is because he doesnt have a strong dominant personality.  He just seems like a "nice guy" and as i was told once " nice guys sleep in parks".  And another thing he never played a down of football.  He runs.  which is respectable in its own way but come on!!!  As far as the lax thing goes,  I hate lax and always will, that was just a cheap low blow on my part and has no formal bearing behind it!!

As far as LL coming in on the 3rd.  These current players better realize that they all have to re interview for there jobs, and as far as all the coaches sticking around, I dont see that happening.  Is beaver gonna stay?

Happy 2007 everyone!!

warthog

Through all of this at UW-WW I am pleased that Coach Willis wasn't tapped on the shoulder for the job.  I would have hated to see him leave Wartburg.

Having said that, it appears any of the finalist would have made fine choices.  In reading the biographies and postings it seems two things jump out when comparing Lance and Coach Z.
1) Lance has a greater variety of experiences.
2) Coach Z. may have a demeanor that rubs some people the wrong way.

When all things seem equal in many phases, keeping the monied alumni happy becomes a more important issue.  Generally those folks don't care for someone they might consider a showman.

After being disappointed and upset the existing players will probably stay on campus after they meet the new coaching staff.   Let's face it, the coaches at UW-WW that are hired will be able to recruit.

A lot of you know this, but for those who don't:
These WIAC coaching jobs are state jobs. A new head coach can't come in and "fire" the assistants and put in his own choices. I do think (don't know for sure), that he can however change the pecking order of the assistants. In other words, if you were a coordinator, you could become a position coach instead. Bottom line, nobody loses their job if they want to stay.

Once again, good luck coach L, and if any of you players are thinking of transferring, at least meet the new coach first. He is a WARHAWK!
If you can't ignore an insult, top it; if you can't top it, laugh it off; and if you can't laugh it off, it's probably deserved.
