If you can't ignore an insult, top it; if you can't top it, laugh it off; and if you can't laugh it off, it's probably deserved.

Who was calling for Z's job?  I never remember hearing any thing like that

Just want to throw some things out for you to chew on... 1st I would like to say that I was recruited by and played 4 years on Z's O and would back him all the way, but with that being said, how can all these "fans" say that LL is the wrong choice..  From what I remember from 98-03, as a player I heard alot of "fans" calling for Z's job cause of his play calling, also anyone that has been around the program knows that Z and Borland always didnt see eye to eye, so if Z would have been hired would that have meant Borland would have left, he has turned that D into something special since he took over...

I feel for Z and hope him the best in what ever he does from here on out... Also I would like to add that if Dink just cleared his stuff out good ridins, I never liked him as a coach or person and he has been rideing Z's coat tales for the last 6 years..

Why doesn't DLK just buy houses in Whitewater for all of Bob's family and grandkids so he can just keep coaching?

Ultimately, it's too bad such a well-oiled machine has to be shut down.  It's not too often you get on top like this (except for MUC, of course).  And then, to have to leave it behind seems like such a waste of years of effort.  It would have been great to watch the Warhaws staff flourish for another 5 - 7 years while working within the same capacities as they all did this past year .  I'm thinking if the staff didn't break up in anyway, this recent stint of success that Whitewater has had probably would have continued for another few season, at least.

Now I'm not saying that their reign is over.  I think they will win the WIAC again next year.  However, it would be easier to win the WIAC in 2007 with the same staff as they did in 2006.  Life goes on.

Anyone know if the news conf. will be broadcast anywhere tomorrow? and where will it be held? open to the public?

The news conference is open to the public and held at Williams Center.  Welcome home Coach Leipold and be sure to show them all what you can do.

I would THINK that the news conference will be aired on UWWTV, which, I think is one in the same as channel 19, which only gets to Whitewater and select surrounding areas.

For those of you who say some people are bashing Leipold, I don't know that I have seen that yet. I think most people are at least grateful that we hired from within the Warhawk family. Leipold is a very good coach with an impressive resume and I for one am excited for his "reign" to start, despite my dissapointment that Z did not get the job.

oldpurple

Thanks for the positive words on Leipold.  I know he is excited to take on this position and has been contacting ALL current coaches to keep them on board.  It is their choice then if they will stay...he is asking all to stay!

Well its not as if he could fire all of them even if he wanted to.  Lets get down to brass tacks, he is not going to have the kind of leway that Bob did. (I seem to remember him fireing an OL coach 4 games into the 99 season)   Moreover, its not like you can clear house as easliy in DIII as you can in DI.  Im more interested in his abillity to follow a proven winner and highly visable figurehead of the national football power that is UW-W

that was a little much, but all im saying is its hard to follow a good coach who rides off into the sunset.
And Gene, realy explore the whole space with that cowbell, realy explore the space...realy

In other news, Owen Schmit(sp) had a great game for West virginia last night. I think he could be playing in the NFL very soon!

You do have to remember that Papa Brez did follow THE FORREST PERKINS.  So LL does have some big shoes to fill, and I am sure he is very capable.  Also he can clean house like a d1 coach would.  You know that he has some buddies that he is going to want to take care of..  I wish him all the luck and go hawks!!

I have no association with any of the WIAC schools as I attended UW-Madison for the four greatest years of my life. AKA College, and know after being in the real world and being a lawyer for the past six years. I have come to several conclusions about this situation, as several of you have made statements without any proof.
1. Just because you have been some where 16 years doesn't mean you're the best man for the job. When I first got to my law firm one of the partners was retiring, and several other people who had been at the firm for over ten years all wanted to become the man to replace him. One guy got it the other three didn't. And the two that didn't decided to move one, as they didn't want to stay at the place they didn't become the partner. I bet this is what happens with this coach Zweifel.
2. Comments about the AD Plinske claiming he is a puss, and a wet towel. As well as being intimidated by coach Z. Please give us true examples of this happening.
3. Comments have been made about this DLK person who sounds like the big booster in town was on the hiring committee. Do you have any proof of this like a list of the hiring committee, as a state university can't release this type of information?
4. Comments have also been made about DLK buying the football team. Once again does anyone have proof of this happening, and can you prove it.
The reasons I bring these up is because of the fact that unless you can prove the statements that you have made and have proof that they have happen. It is hear say, unless any of you were on the committee and in the actual interview room when both Mr. Leipold and Mr. Zweifel interviewed you know what happen. All I can say without being in the room is that when it came down to it Lance did a better job, and that is the person that the hiring committee decided to hire.
I have made the decision to not bring your names into this, as I don't care who your are or what your screen name is. However unless you can prove what you have claimed it can be and in most cases will be considered liable.
So watch what you say, and just support your school especially if you're an alum, as one of the posters has been saying, the coaches always preached family well Lance is a member of the family having played at the university of Wisconsin Whitewater. Just like people in Madison supported Coach Bielema who might have not been the best man for the job, but was in the mine of the man making that decision Barry Alvarez.
Good luck to the new coach and everyone stay out of trouble

Lance Leipold could give Z a run for his money. Lot of WW tradition. Glad I don't have to help pick the new coach. Nice to see some good candidates apply.

Just because I'm childish, that was my post Dec. 19th. Told you so!---now, after today's announcement, maybe we can get down to talking about football---like who is going to try to replace Kleppe and Thompson in the D line, and at QB, do you go with the Sr. or the tall Soph?

I wonder if this type of big brother looking down on everyone's opinion's is really necessary.  Its just what this website needs is seedy government and lawyer types ready to throw the books in your face after giving your opinion of a D-3 football coaching change.  Its hard to believe that just a couple weeks ago everyone was so excited to see the warhawks play a football game that now, with all this political crap going on that it seems so far and distant in all our memories.  Once again I am empowered to say that the world we are living in resembles more of a strange and sometimes confusing place called, "Bizarro World."  I think its time to cut the crap and start talking football.

No Talent Hack,
I agree with you totally, I am sorry I was just saying that people need to watch what they say on a national website like this.
I agree with you that it is time to talk football. I have friends who went to U Dub, Dub, and want to wish them the best of luck. One of my other partners here at the firm was telling me that Lance was a GA at Wisconsin after he was UWW OC in 1990. So I have to like a former badger, as much as the u-dub, dub people like a former war hawk. However no one on this board from reading old posts from last spring liked warhawkbadger. Sorry I will not bring his name up again.
