Early post time to kick off this weekend's game, starting with an early TV game at 11 a.m. Carson Park...
Pick summary so far:
Whitewater (19) vs. Platteville (0)
Stout (16) vs. River Falls (3)
UWL (14) vs. UWEC (5)
Oshkosh (10) vs. Point (9)

My picks for this week:

Whitewater's the team to beat in this conference now, with the target on their backs for the rest of the season. They are rolling, for real, and a letdown is not going to happen this week. Whitewater big over Platteville.

Stout vs. River Ralls: Stout, just because of home field advantage....

UWSP at Oshkosh: Mr. Downtown sold me on this pick, so if I get it wrong, it's his fault. Ha. Oshkosh brings its running shoes, and pulls out an impressive Homecomeing win over the Pointers. I'm saying 28-14.

And, from the friendly confines of Carson Park, the game of the week, UWEC vs UWL: 11 a.m. start plays a factor.

The 'Golds build a small early lead on the Eagles, get the fans into the game, the defense steps up again, and the 'Golds dictate the pace of a low-scoring game in the first half. But in the second half UWEC holds off the once sleeping giant, as UWL's tradition, pride and talent surfaces, and it becomes a shootout, with the 'Golds hanging on at the end in a nailbiter...
Go Golds!

Well obviously the run defense is going to have to step it up against Beaver.  But even you have to admit the Platteville Offense is going to cause some troubles for the Whitewater D.

At the half, Point 14 Oshkosh 9

Titan special teams has been pathetic at best so far. A blocked punt, a missed extra point, a missed field goal, and several ridiculously short kickoffs are making things easy for the Pointers. Patek's passing game is impressive so far. Here's one you never hear... O-Line play has been incredible so far. Very solid blocking downfield on screens and outside runs. HAIL TITANS

I don't care if I get the rest of my picks wrong this week, but I nailed the Blugold game! Yep, I predicted a small Blugold lead at half, and it was 10-7, and said the second half would be a shootout. Well, it was 13-13 at the end of the regulation; the shootout occurred in double overtime. Oops. Ha. Blugolds win 27-20.

Wow. What a game. Like I said to someone afterward, that's why these guys play it, and why we watch it. You will not see a better game tomorrow on television than what we were treated to at Carson Park this afternoon. Thanks for a great game, guys. So good, in fact, I'm watching the tape of the game as I type.

After UWL stopped the Blugolds on third and one at the Eagles 42, UWL scored on its first drive of the game. Then it seemed as if EC played at its pace, used a ball-control offense and seemed to have the momentum and mostly field position the rest of the game.

But it was as if the Eagles were just lurking, waiting in the wings to take the game. In the 4th quarter, Eagles had a 63-yard pass play when Dan Hall was wide open, nobody near him. Blown coverage, I'm guessing. But the 'Golds' special teams blocked the extra point, keeping the score at 13-13

EC dodged a bullet on a potential game winning field goal by UWL in the last minute, then missed its own to close out regulation.

In OT, teams traded TDs, including the 'Golds converting two plays on fourth down. Then UWEC scored, and held on the Eagles next drive, which stalled on fourth down on an incomplete pass from the 4.

Good to see two great running backs, Geldernick (31 for 196 yards) and Gast 37 for 154) have big games...

What a game... 'Golds stay in the hunt for a tie in the conference championship, assuming Whitewater loses. I don't think that will happen, but can the 'Golds get an at large bid if they run the table? We'll see.

It was as wonderful day in Carson Park the weather was great, a TV game, and if there ever was a D3 ESPN instant classic this was it.  I stated in my picks earlier in the week I think the game would come down a defensive score or a special teams play.  I was half right with a big punt return by the 'golds to set up the first touchdown and then a blocked extra point to keep the game tied.  What a game and I don't like to say it but hats off to LAX for a great effort but again the 'golds come out on top!

fredfalcon

padmofu--dont know what happened, but I posted RF, Osh, WW, Lax on Friday. I checked but it's not there. Unfortunately, the way the Falcons played, ex-RFHS kicker Adam Larson beat RF himself, 8-6. Falcon wheels fell off today.

GOT BALLS? PLAY FOR THE FALLS!

WW looked good today. Special teams need to improve a lot if they expect to compete with playoff teams. Maybe some personel changes are needed. Nice to see Beaver get a bit of a blow for a change. Would be nice to limit him to 20 or 25 carries the rest of the way.

Well said Realist.  And warhawkalum is the prime example of the arrogant jerks that come out of Whitewater.  Bashing on Emendorfer?! Let me remind you he was the coach of the year last year tied with the La Crosse coach.  A fluke you say?  Oh yeah uh huh you keep telling yourself that, is that the excuse your going to use this year?  So Pioneers you got to win this one, give condescending negative freeloaders like warhawkalum a reason to cry about.  Platteville you have to
A. Ruin there homecoming
B. Ruin there season.

Cause warhawkalum has taught us all one thing.  If anyone deserves to have a humongous buzz kill it's the people at UWW.

Peace out

Coach of the year.

ROTFLMFAO,  the game was competitive for all of 2 minutes and 31 seconds, the length of time it took the WARHAWKS[/color] to put the first seven points on the board.  The arrogant jerks dominated from the first snap to the last though Platteville's offense was effective against the players third and fourth on our depth chart.   Over 700 yards of total offense, 443 in the first half alone.  Humongous buzz kill, early trip to the bars.  ;)

Plattfan

I went to that game today.  And what can I say I was wrong obviously.  This isn't an excuse but when your Starting QB, Starting HB, and 2 top recievers are not even playing cause of injuries.  Well that just speaks for itself  The fact that the Platteville defense gave up over 700 yards is just sickening.   As for the arrogant comment explain this one to me there up 56-21 theres under 3 minutes left to in the game.  Whitewater could have easily just run out the clock and called it a game but no..  they throw a 48 yard bomb.  Then run it in for a touchdown.  Cause it just had to be a 63 point game.   But those Whitewater players sure hit hard today.  They played with a lot more passion than I thought they would.  Best of luck to Whitewater for the rest of the season.  Unless they play like crap in a game they should easily go undefeated.

The wheels stayed on, Fred, long enough for the Falcons to roll over.  Saddest effort since 1972 versus Augsburg. (Dementia approaching? Short term memory shot; long term memories still there).  Plattfan, you're embarrassed about 63 points today, but the embarassment shifts to UWW tomorrow.  Over time, everyone comes to hate the bully on the block.  Finally, Hoffner and crew are showing they are the most resourceful group in the league, with a team much better than its individual parts.
