Isn't there a procedure for hiring coaches? Interim coaches can be hired off the street, but I thought the permanent position had to go through a search and screen procedure. Certainly, you can tailor the whole thing to come out the way you want it, but I suspect the school has to go through some motions.

From the Stout website

Football coach Strops resigns, Naatz named interim coach
Menomonie (January 11, 2007) - UW-Stout football coach Todd Strop submitted his letter of resignation today. Long-time assistant coach Duey Naatz has been named the interim head coach for the 2007 season.

Sounds like there may have been some pressure to resign?
+k to BDB for being candid!

I could understand more if he'd been asked to resign because of the "wierd" season Stout had, but I totally agree that all the WIAC schools have at least the same problem with the drug thing. If anyone thinks their school is above that kind of thing, they are nuts.

Here's the first media confirmation I've seen.  It's identical to what is on the Stout web site:

Did Coach sound like he was quiting on his Saturday interview on the radio, or was he just mad about his situation? Maybe he made the decision on his own. This is the question that BDB and other boosters need to find out. if he was pushed, what is your alternative? Root for EC or RF? It is tough. I was very unhappy when Landrum left PV BB by not having his contract renewed. It was tough but I moved on. Your famdom should not be dependent on wins or losses and who coach's. It is a longer version of the 24 rule after a win or loss. I just hope that your strong support of FB continues.Iwent to a lot of poorly attended games at your former dump stadium and do not wish that on you fine fans! God Bless!

Quote from BDB--When I see you face to face I will spit the same opinion to you.

As PO'd as BDB is, Sorenson's reply better be "fine", and leave it at that.

Romo's demise?  Last I heard, he is still alive.  :P

Wow. You made me look that word up. I really thought there was a softer use for it, like Romo "fell off his pedestal some."

Turns out demise pretty much means "dead." And I even avoided "untimely demise" to avoid the inference that I meant "death"

(yes, I get paid to know what words mean)

Ah, well.

Hey BDB, a couple quick questions for you.  First off, do you not think that because stout finished with a 3-7 record this year with a lot of returning starters had anything to do with the chancellors decision?  Or how about the fact that all the seniors for the upcoming season had a meeting about talking to the chancellor because nobody enjoyed playing for him?  Could that have had anything to do with this?  I understand your frustrations, but the bottum line is the program has gone down the past couple years.

From the outside, and from the timing, it would seem it's all about this.

BDB what player in their right mind would say a negative thing about a coach to one of their friends or a booster member?? no wonder why nobody said anything to you.   Besides the point, being a close friend to a parent on the team, i know for sure this meeting took place.   Last time I checked the chancellor of a school has the right to do whatever he wants to clean up the university whether it be athletics or acadmeics.  In order to be at such a high profile position, I would have to say the chancellor must have made some pretty crucial, well thought out, educated decisions in the past.

You got that right K-Mack, and for all the wrong reasons.

It would seem that the two things are unrelated.

If a couple of members of the Biology Club get busted, do you axe the professor?

Perhaps because the word "steroids" was in the stories and it's a hot-button issue, maybe your boy felt like he had to act swiftly and strongly, but it's definitely not cool to make a coach a fall guy for what seems to have happened here.

I agreed with the poster who said it seems like each school has a few guys that are doing it. (that might have been on the WisPreps board, but whatever) ... There were definitely some people I played with, where I never saw anything, but I wouldn't have been shocked to find out. And this is mid-level D3 we're talking about.

As a D3 columnists, I have seen people pulled after playoffs games for the tests to be administered. As a 165-pound freshman player, I got "randomly selected" more than once, even though the 280-pound O-linemen with anger management issues never seemed to be in the infirmary with me when I got tested.

FWIW.

That doesn't mean everything he ever does or will do is the right thing.

I wish I got a free pass from now on for all the cool/smart/generous/caring things I once did.

I'm sure the drug altercation had something to do with the decision, however to say that was the only reason is ridiculous!!!  Put that on top of a couple straight underachieving seasons, along with players not liking the guy sounds like a pretty good reason to move on!!

J44

No BDB, I just speak it the way it is!!  I can guarantee that!
