Interesting position, Pat.

UWL had a couple of players drafted in the 80's when we were in NAIA D2.  I believe that was equivalent to NCAA D3.  Its seems harsh to not consider such events.

Watch out! We're heading into the infamous "Is Terry Porter a D-III player?" debate.  I side with Pat.  Equivalent means exactly the same, and they were not the same. They are two separate organizations.

It's great to recognize those guys for their achievements, but if the list is "D-III players drafted into the NFL" they don't belong.

As has been indicated numerous times, a D3 player getting drafted in the NFL are few and far between.
All I know is that NFL scouts were making tracks to Whitewater's Student Athletic Center roughlty three days a week during the football season.  When you have every NFL team making at least one trip to UWW obviously tells you that their is an interest in Stanley.  Pro scouts and player personnel people don't invest that much time determining the draftability or free agent possibility of a player.
Legendary Wisconsin State Journal sports columnist Tom Oates wrote on this topic during the week leading up to the 2006 Stagg Bowl.  The column can be accessed at the following URL:

Both Stanley and tight end Pete Schmitt will be in an NFL camp within the next week to ten days.

I assume neither will get drafted but both will get their chances somewhere as the Voice said. Stanley, I believe, is similar to Randle L , who we watched develop in high school in ChiTown. Pete if he hooks up into the right system will surprise a lot of people. I wish them both well and hope they hook up with the right team.....

I hadnt posted in a while so I figured you guys missed me.
I believe Stanley will 100% get picked up maybe not in the draft but definitely as a free agent. When you think about it he is a small receiver but he is an unbelievable athlete at any level.  Wendt is bigger and stronger and maybe faster in a 40 but Stanley is just better at football and a better athlete. Also Stanleys ability to play special teams has to factor in.  I do also believe that Wendt will get picked up as well because of his size and potential.  Like a very smart man said early as for Pete if he get in the right system he could do some things.  But as for Englebert we already know where I stand on that.

Here is an updated list of some other "D3'rs" from an up and coming poster "The Super 46".. mind you he has roots to the MWC and those jaugernats from DePere...

Larry Krause  St Nubs. 68' (Green Bay Packer)

Ted Fritsch    St. Nubs. 71' (Atlanta Falcons)

+2 other Green Knights from that 70's era.

**** mind you that I bleed purple and white and this post is only under the influence of my father the nubs man...

I imagine Stanley might get a shot at a training camp.  Whether he can survive the cuts is another matter.

More draft day things to watch/listen for this Saturday during the draft.....

1.  "We were surprised he was still there."
Translation: "We're worried about choosing a guy everyone else passed on." Crap, maybe there's a reason he was still there!

2.  "A lot of teams called about our pick, but we decided to keep it."
Translation: "Unfortunately, no one called about our pick, so we were stuck with it."

3.  "Our doctors aren't concerned about that injury."
Translation: "He's injured?  Why the hell didn't we know he was injured?"

4. "The Wonderlic test is just one of many factors we consider."
Translation: "Hell, none of our coaches can answer those questions, either." (Question: Judy's brother is three times as old as Michelle's younger sister, who is traveling 60 miles per hour east along the hypotenuse of a triangle. In five years, what will Dick Cheney's Social Security number be?)

5.  "We take the best available athlete."
No one ever says, "We steer clear of the best athletes." Yet year in and year out, this appears to be the draft strategy of several NFL teams.

6.  "We are not influenced by workout numbers at the combine."
Right.  That must be why most of the league's teams sent 95% of their coaching staffs to Indianapolis.

7.  "We're very concerned with character issues."
Translation: "We'll overlook practically anything as long as you don't "make it rain" too loudly, but we know the commissioner wants us to say we're concerned about character."

8. "We draft for performance, not potential."
OK, then why will Dave Ball of New Hampshire, who broke Jerry Rice's Division I-AA touchdown record, be lucky to hear his name called?

9. "We always draft for special teams."
Translation: "We never draft for special teams." Though one-third of field position is determined by kicking downs, most NFL clubs rarely choose players for special-teams ability.

10. "We really like our draft."
Translation: "Boy, what a great job I did." Really, what is a coach or general manager supposed to say? They aren't going to say, "We just blew our picks on a bunch of no-account who-dats who are headed straight to the waiver wire." In the hours after the draft, team officials would be foolish not to declare that they liked their draft class; saying this is part of sales promotion, to get customers excited about next autumn. (Most NFL ticket sales occur during the offseason.) And when a coach or general manager says, "We really like our draft," what he's doing is evaluating himself. He's the one who made the picks -- so of course he'll assign himself a high grade!

11. "That's about where I expected him to be chosen."
Sure to be said by Mel Kiper Jr., and translates as, "In my mock drafts I also had him going a lot higher and a lot lower.  That way, all of my bases are covered, and people think I'm a guru and leave me alone about my pompadour."

BW, if it weren't for your 8 inch hands, I'd say you have the makings to be a day-one prospect.  I'll look for your name on the ticker.

If it weren't for my 4" weiner, I'd be Tommy Lee.
