I agree not a laughing matter at Stout. I hope they can turn things around because it reflects on the entire conference. Maybe they could offer something desirable to Plinske and then he could be adios from Whitewater......Couldn't pass that personal note---- not trying to make light of the situation......

Tough news for the Stout program.  I wish them well and hope that they can turn the corner.

As a result, I hope the members on this board don't jump into a tirade about the Stout program being corrupt etc.  Always remember the "Glass Houses" theory.  I truly believe that if the rest of the WIAC were to test their players, we would all be shocked by the results.  The ripple effect that it would have across the entire Conference would be quite damaging to the WIAC we love.

I agree with you ExBadger with the steroid part of this story......Allegedly according to the original article they were busted for attempting to sell cocaine and that I find even more troubling.....

I agree with you exbadger.  I think if you put mandatory testing in most programs the results probably wouldn't be any different.  Hopefully Stouts aggressive approach to the problem will wake everybody up.

5 of the 6 kids that tested positive was because of marijuana.  Your telling me only 5 out of whatever number tested smoke it.  I gaurantee you could go to every team in the WIAC and give surprise tests (the stout players knew they would be tested eventually so thats probably why the number is down) and you would get atleast 10 to 15 players testing positive for marijuana.  I know there are a lot of kids who dont smoke it and they outweigh the ones who do but there are more than 5 on every team that would test positive for it.

I really hope that UW-Stout pulls through and overcomes this debacle. something2say, I believe you are right, it is only a matter of Stout being "caught" rather than them being the "ones" who did it. It looks really bad for our conference with the whole roids and weed situation especially if you recognize what we're known for: big players, strong players, physical smash mouth football. It's too bad that we as a society always focus on the bad minority of any population and predicate our fears and dispositions based on the few who are actually doing the wrong in the first place. I know for a fact that 90-95% of our conference is clean but all it will look like is, "those Wisconsin kids are on roids."

I am so glad they got rid of Terry.  Now I hope that Sorensen is next, too bad he is nowhere near his way out.

I doubt if you could find a team in any conference or division that doesn't have some problems with drugs which includes steroids.  I think the key is what is each team, conference, division is doing about it.  I know the cost of testing can be high but it would be great to see every team at every level run a true testing program.  It would eliminate the pressure on these young men to think that in order to compete at a higher level they have to use steroids.

A sad episode for Stout athletics.  I hope they work through it.

Like I said I was kidding it is unfortunate that this type of thing happens at a level where the kids should have fun being given the opportunity to continue their athletic careers while getting a degree in the area of their choice. While also remembering that the chances of them going pro NFL,NBA,MLB are slim to none.
This is what division three athletics are all about. Getting a great education while continuing your playing career that you played in high school.
yes what has happen at Stout is unfortunate. However I bet if you randomly tested football players at all of the WIAC schools each school would have kids that tested positive for some type of drug.
Gotta beat the best to be the best otherwise your just one of the rest

Let's hope it happens as somethign like this will bring all the hawks back to UW-W

Don't disagree that other schools in any conference may have players that would have a tough time passing tests for banned substances but I don't know if you would find as many or would they have players dealing cocaine from their apartments.....this is the troubling factor to me. I hope they get this entire situation worked out and cleaned up because it reflects poorly on the entire WIAC which I agree with 96 for the most part is an excellent conference....On another note attended graduation at Whitewater Saturday and cograts to all the ballers that received a diploma. Wish there was one more year of eligibility but will have to be just a true spectator now......POUND THE ROCK!!!!!......

BDB,

When and where is the party? I know this has to make you smile.
I doubt any part of this situation is making anyone smile.
BDB - Have you heard how the rest of the team is handling all of this negative activity.  I am sure there is alot of good athletes in Stout who are not to happy.  Any insite on the current players?

Exactly. No party here raider.

Pete Schmitt article.

Schmitt has the size to be an effective blocker and the speed to lead a back through a hole. His conversion is reminiscent of that of Bryan Johnson, who came to the team after playing linebacker at Boise State and converted to fullback. The team is hoping Westbrook and Schmitt can be high-energy players who make legitimate runs at roster spots and perform well on special teams. Joe Gibbs loves long shots, and if either proves he can play, his college pedigree will not be a liability. If they aren't quite there yet, they could earn spots on the practice squad.
If you can't ignore an insult, top it; if you can't top it, laugh it off; and if you can't laugh it off, it's probably deserved.
