I think the Sept. 29th game will probably be for the conference championship (with apologies to the other conference teams).  Whitewater has shoes to fill.  So do we.  But its our house, and I think we will win.

I agree that it could very well decide the championship and both do have to fill big shoes.  But I think the home field advantage is minimal.  The Warhawks have experienced much more difficult road trips the last two years and the Hawk fans travel extremely well these days.  The program has GREAT respect for LAX but the, "awe," factor of LAX that was present in the early 2000's (which can cause a team to beat themselves,) no longer exists for this program.    But I agree with BW.  Both teams would be remiss to discount the rest of the conference.  This is the WIAC, afterall, considered the toughest conference in the country by our esteemed hosts.   ;)

I agree totally with Goal Line Stand that there no longer is the LAX awe factor. 5 years ago it was assumed we would lose to LAX now the Warhawks are expected to win. Last year Lax almost pulled the upset in the second game when the Warhawks played subpar.....the first game the Warhawks ,of course, stomped them. The Warhawks do travel very well as been shown recently in Oregon and Texas.....I think many will be surprised this year how good this Warhawk team will be that will take the field in 2007.....they are very good..... I hope Mary Hardin Baylor doesn't travel well.......

Next semester will be a busy one but I hope to make it up to LAX for the WW-LAX game. It has nothing to do with football but more of the fact that I went up there for state track and field and I gotta tell ya.........you guys having the best football team in the conference is debatable but you DEFINITELY have the best bar scene in the conference hands down ;D

With the final standings calculated, the Williams College captures its ninth consecutive United States Sports Academy Director's Cup in D3, tallying 1,137.5 points.

UWL (718.75) leads the pack of WIAC teams in the top 50, coming in at 7th... Oshkosh (12), UWSP (13), UWEC (18), UWW (32) and UWP (45) follow. After that, the standings are muddied, with ties in several positions -UWRF (119), Stout (232) and Platteville (312).

The cup is based on each school's finish in up to 14 sports - seven men's and seven women's teams... National Championship teams each receive 100 points...

It will be interesting to see how the QB battle at UWL shakes out...
Yeah, what I thought that was amazing was the Williams Women Rowers got 100 points for defeating 42 opponents.

DePauw women hoopsters get 100 points for defeating 430 other teams.

IMHO, that is not an accurate representation of the accomplishment of either Williams Women's Rowers or the DePauw Women's Basketball Team.  To correct his, I would multiply all of the point allocations by a "participation coefficient" obtained by dividing the number of schools participating in the sport by the number of teams in D3.

Williams only gets 10 points for the win in Rowing.

If you are here to stir the kettle, you probably came to the wrong place.  Most people realize what this award is all about.  But, since you brought it up, another example is that of the UCLA women water polo team winning the NCAA's vs Tennessee Womens basketball (beating 30 teams vs beating 325 teams).  But, why stop there, Alaska-Fairbanks wins rifle with only 14 teams participating.  Vanderbilt wins bowling with only 51 teams participating. And more, Dartmouth wins skiing with only 42 teams. On top of your "participation coefficent" maybe you can devise a "strenghth coefficient."  I'm sure the wrestlers and bowlers have am alarming discrepancy in that.  Maybe even a "snow and cold weather coefficent."  You know those skiers from Dartmouth and Colorado have such an easier time than those from Florida State.  Where does it end?  The competition is for overall athletic program excellence (i.e. winning championships).  Not for who can beat the most teams on the way to the championship.  Is it perfect?  Of course not, nothing ever is.  Why mess it up more?

Here is an interesting look at D3 athletics with a portion towards the bottom of the page an interview with UW-W athletic director Dr. Paul Plinske.

Yes. People should read the whole series, really. Good stuff, came out in December.

Thanks for the link.  I'd never really thought of it in those terms before so it added a different perspective to consider.

Clayt Birmingham, the new defensive coordinator at Stout, has been chosen as linebacker coach for the USA team competing in the World Cup Championship of American Football.   He will be working with the head coach, John Makovic and defensive coordinator George Darlington.   Coach Berezowitz will be coaching on the offensive side of the ball.

They left for San Joses CA today for two weeks of training camp and fly to Japan on July 4th for the tournament.

I realize nothing more than OTA's are happening in the NFL, but are there any updates on our WIACer's who are being given an opportunity?

out of Stout, i do know that RB Ryan Englebert has been in to Cincinnati a few times this summer for OTA practices, and depending on what the Bengals do with their latest player arrested, he could be signed for training camp.  As for Jesse Wendt, he wasn't asked back to either rookie tryout camp he went to. (washington, New Orleans)  Derek is doing well in St. Louis, and Pete Schmidt is still on the Redskins active roster, so i'm assuming he is doing well also.  Does anyone else have any other info??

Last I checked from the Rams website, Stanley was listed as third team WR, as were 3 other rookies and 1 vet.  Wash doesn't list a pre-season depth chart.  Since there is not any other word that I could find on the websites about them, unless someone talks to them personally, I think it is kind of hard to determine how well they are doing, except they are still on the roster.  Good luck to all WIAC prospects!!
