According to the St LouisPost-Dispatch projections, Derek Stanley is on the bubble to make the Ram's regular season roster.  The breakdown:

Hagans looked good as receiver the other night but Stanley did well with special teams...Hopefully Derek will make the practice squad if not the regular roster

Wow, this blog is pretty dead  :o.  Just over a week before the opening kick-off and no football talk.  I guess everyone is in mid-August hibernation, or something!  Anyway, we still don't have a starting QB named for either of the 2 best teams.  How long do we have to wait for some action on this front?  I would think by now, with preparations for the first game at fever pitch, that these (WW & LC) head coaches would be announcing something by now.  Any thoughts out there in WIAC-land?  Time to wake up and get back to posting!!

I was just wondering if anyone from Point where going to attend the game against Webber Int. in Florida?  I'm about 3 hours away and was thinking of driving down just to get a look at some WIAC football since this will be the only chance I get because I'm moving down here in 3 weeks.
I may not have much to say, but I'll say it anyway.

Rumor has it D. Jones will be the new starter in ww.(not official obviously)

badgerwarhawk

Then it would be an unofficial rumor, right?   ;)

BoBo - I thought the same thing.  I've been gone since last Friday and thought I would have alot of catch up reading.  Did any of the WIAC have scrimmages last week?  If so how did it go.  I know last year Eau Claire went against St. Thomas any Blugolds have any info?

BoBo

I thought I read at the LC Tribune online that LC and RF scrimmaged, too, but didn't see any further details.

Any theory why Coach LL would put off making an official announcemnt? I mean, why the secrecy?  Afterall, in game 1 vs Lakeland, I think it would be a fair assumption to say that the starter probably won't play more than 2 quarters anyway.  The back-ups will probably play just has much, if not more in this game, don't you think?  That is, if the game gets out of hand for Lakeland as it has the past couple years.

I believe you are correct badgerwarhawk, but is there any other kind of rumor?  ;) So, from this point forward, we can conclude that all rumors are officially unofficial until such time they are made official by the official officials.

I don't understand the concern over an official announcement who the starting QB is. It appears that for the first time in a few years there has been a solid competition for the QB position at UWW and currently Danny Jones is doing most of the work with the first unit. I believe competition like is going on helps make solid practices and realistically they will beat Lakeland with whomever plays QB. Simply naming a QB serves no real purpose in my mind at this point......the players understand who the number one guy is right now and that I believe is what really counts.....

Who says he has to make an official announcement at all?  This isn't the NFL where millions of gambling dollars ride on the decision.  Just publish your two deep the week before the first game like the other 300 schools do.

That is how it has been done in the past.  Doubt this year will be any different.

Lighten up guys, just trying to resuscitate a WIAC post patterns from the dog days of summer!! Be thankful I didn't do what some were asking on the IIAC board a while back.  It would have gone something like this:  Who is going to lead the WIAC is 3rd down rushing attemps? Which coach will call the most time outs? or this one, Who will lead the WIAC in fumble recoveries?  etc. etc. etc

As I had pointed out in my previous post, it probably doesn't matter who lines up first at QB against Lakeland, WW will win that game handily.  That's not the point.  Most of the time announcements like this are made due to media requests that bombard the HC with questions about it (consider the circus at madison with the QB battle that went on there). Obviously, Whitewater is not the media capital of SE Wisconsin or for that matter NW Walworth County, so apparently no one really cares who is starting QB for the #2 team in the nation is. I guess it's a credit to the other guys they have that makes them so highly rated in the preseason. I just believe that most coaches prescribe to a philosophy that naming (publicly) a starting quarterback ranked as a top priority.  Evidently, WW coaches don't think along those lines concerning this at this time. BTW, without some kind of announcement, just because one guy is working at this time with the #1 unit, doesn't necessarily mean the players understand him to be the #1 guy, does it?  Are you saying the coaches have announced to the team than Jones is the #1? And if so, what's wrong with making it known outside the team?

I don't believe any NFL coach with an ounce of integrity or a conscience makes a decision like naming a QB based on what the gamblers want to spend their money on. Sure, NFL injury reports and the like are taken advantage of by gamblers, but that is not the primary purpose of making those kind of announcments.  Doing things in association with gamblers would be a good way to get the commish's boot out of the league.  I believe a college coach wearing the same stripes feels the same way.  Nowhere did anybody say they must make an official announcement, but in reality, it's something that is done more often than you think, contrary to what you might hold as an opinion.

If a player is working with the #1's everyone uderstands him as the #1 at this point in preseason practice.(barring injury of course)
