Just thought I'd check in on the Whitewater football posting board.  ::)

What a discussion.  It is good to see a lot of chat going on, but does anyone think Eau Claire has got a +10 shot this weekend?  I, like most other non UWW posters, would love to see them lose and the WIAC be a competitive league til the end.  I think there are many variables in picking the best running back in the WIAC history.  I think on most teams in the WIAC you could interchange backs and they would have relatively the same numbers as most teams have a similar system.  I think certain schemes do influence numbers and using the strength of team by using the oline does help as well.

Justin Beaver is a great RB, but there are a handful of guys the past 5 years or so that would have gained as many yards had they been in the same system.  NO DOUBT ABOUT IT!!!!

It shocks me to still see people questioning Justin Beaver.  How can you argue with 2420 as a junior in 14 games and 1369 in 10 games as a senior, by the way his senior year he came back from a broken collarbone in 4 weeks, to rush for 227 yards against the second best team in our conference.  The RB from osh kosh and Beaver arent in the same ball park.  Smell that
Do you smart guys ever come to think that maybe the OLine from UWW looks as good as the do or did because of Beaver? Its not hard to block for a guy like Beaver trust ME on that one, he makes anybody look good not the other way around.  So J44 buy a clue and go watch a game.
I think what people are trying to say is Beaver has had the benefit of playing behind one of the better O-Lines in the country and one of the better offensives the past two years.  I went and looked at the Stats from the games Beaver sat out and except the Mary-Hardin game WW didn't miss a beat in the rushing game.  It also looked like to me the average yds. per carry by the leading rusher was actually higher than Beavers previous games.

Warhawk and Sakman

I went back and and looked at the post in response to Goo62 and no where in the post was I bashing Beaver.  I just made a point that even when Beaver was out the running game continued to have success.  I would have no clue if Wurth was a better back than Beaver because I have never seen Wurth play.

Wurth could kick better than Beaver.  ;)

Having seen both I'd have to give the nod to Justin.  Nothing wrong with Chad.  He was an excellent runner and I was always amazed by his footwork.  The guy could stop on a dime, dance left and right and blow past you leaving eleven cents change.  But Justin is BSF (bigger, stronger, faster) and to me along with his numbers,  that puts him at a different level.

One thing about Beaver is that if you asked him he'd tell you he couldn't gain a yard without the guys in front of him so in that regard he might argue that side of the coin.

Spencer Jensen was a D1 level guy who fell into our lap.  He was pretty good too.

Sak, you're right Pitz is no Beaver. I only meant not missed a beat as in our offense still racked up a lot of yards on the ground and we scored a lot of points. Wurth also was good.....but I gotta give Justin the nod.

BTW where did it say that UWEC was favored by 10 points? I don't believe what I see but I am wearing glasses......and they do have a tint.....and that tint just might be purple.

???  ???
I think everybody starts the season hoping each conference school wins all their non-conference games or as many as possible, for bragging rights if anything.  Then, I would guess everybody would like nice strong, competitive league to the end.  However, when the conference champ has 2 losses and there's a second place tie with 3 losses each because of that nice, strong competitive league race - banging each others brains out week in and week out - when it's all said and done, only 1 school makes the playoffs.  Then everyone pisses and moans that the strongest conference gets only 1 team selected for the playoffs. Do you see where this is headed??? I'll be déjà vu all over again. I'd rather have an undisputed and undefeated conference champ every year and a 1 loss 2nd place team that makes it into the playoffs. Everything else can be competitive and I'm satisfied. To me, that's a competitive league.  Sorry you feel differently.  I guess it's a matter of the glass being half full vs half empty.  It can still be a competitive league with an undefeated conference champ.

bobhawk you really are a waist of time. Your football knowledge is so limited your pretty much a football mental midget.  4,444 yards rushing in not even three years not many people do that at any level.  I hope you coach in my league some day cause that would definitely be one game I wouldnt have to worry about losing.

Warhawk 96,

Devil Badger Gopher indicated Eau Claire +10.  That would mean he thinks that UWEC is a 10-point underdog to UWW.  Seeing that you are a former student-athlete, I'm glad to see that you aren't familiar with point spread notation.  That's a good sign.  ;)

You learn something new everyday :D On a side note, I think that this UWEC team is probably legitimately good and they can beat that spread. As far as winning though, I'm picking the hawks just because it's at home and I want the first final score on the new scoreboard to be a winning one. Should be close though, two good teams battling it out till the end.

This game will not be close unless EC can throw the ball effectively, and if they are anything like EC of the past 3-4 years they wont be able to do this.
