Stevens Point might stick around early, but by the end of the game it will probably be something like WW 35  UWSP 14.    Beaver + 175 yards rushing.

I have a nephew who plays for Stevens Point and attended the game last week against Stout.  Had the refs not called 2 very very questionable pass interference calls stout would have won the game.(one of those was at the end of the game which should have been an INT and would have taken Points field goal off the board)   They have gotten very lucky the past 8 games or so, which will soon run out tomorrow...  GO HAWKS

If Point's QB Jake Swank redshirted at Purdue (as the WSJ article implied), wouldn't  he be considered a sophomore according to D3 guidelines?

No.  Redshirts at D-I and D-II are honored at D-III, unless the conference in question chooses not to honor them (like the MIAC).

Pat even has a handy FAQ that address it.

Actually Retagent baseball is dead to me after September when football is in full throttle.....unless the Cubs are in the playoffs which is very very seldom.....I plead guilty to liking certain colors for uniforms.....maybe I am a metrosexual....

Yeah sure you are   ???

Looks like we will have to bring a few cases of "Schmidt's Gay" to the SJU/WW battle this year :-\  (Check SNL reference here)!

I'm glad your nephew plays for Point and is also able to attend the games they play.  As you probably know, Lance Smilth at Madison has a few problems in that regard.  Hope you'll get a chance to watch the young man play sometime.  Maybe this weeks game will be a good opportunity!!   ;)

...upon further review, ritz, that won't be necessary.  Although it's a funny skit, everyone's seen it hundreds of times, and IMO, it doesn't get any funnier with age.  If you decide to link it now, ...you'll end up living in a van, down by the river ...  ;)  :D  ;D

How is Whitewater and Stevens Point not the DIII game of the week.  The only ranked opponents playing each other and the conference title is on the line.

Pat Coleman

It would be hard for a game in Wisconsin to be the D3Cast East Region Game of the Week.

It probably would only cost a few thousand dollars to fly the D3Cast team out to Wisconsin.  Can't you write a check? ;)

Final from Carson Park in Eau Claire:
UWEC 40, Platteville 33

Turnovers make the difference in this game played with a greased pig instead of a football... Ten between the two teams...

Blugolds pick off four passes, including taking two back for TDs (43 and 31 yards) and recover two fumbles, which also resulted in Blugold scoring drives... Pioneers pick off three, and also get a fumble recovery...

Before leaving the game in the 4th quarter, Blugold QB Mitch Schaeuble wasn't completing passes %-wise, 7-18, for 74 yards, but did throw two TDs, to each of the Hull WR brothers (6 and 10 yards)...

Tony Hull, the Blugold's 5th QB on the year, steps in for Schaeuble in the 4th, after he was shaken up... (Had sustained a concussion last week)... Hull is able to keep the game in hand...

Rushing leaders were UWEC's Cory Sartorelli 39 for 119 yards and a pair of TDs... UWP's Mike Genslinger had 19 carries for 69 yards, but punched it in twice on short runs...

Other key stat for the Pioneers - QB John Akim is 18 for 37, for two TDs, but the four picks were big, as two were taken to the house...

Blugolds head into the break week at 6-2 and 3-2 before heading to Stevens Point for a Nov. 3 matchup vs. the Pointers...

BoBo

Stevens Point played a very good first half of football.  They had a couple good scoring drives and were making some plays.

The game turned in Whitewater's favor with the opening possession of the second half. Whitewater's D stepped up in intensity and was able to keep the Pointers off the board in the second half.

The radio broadcast sounded like is was probably the most consistent and complete overall game for the WW offense.  Playing without WRs Gifford and Wells in this one, Aaron Rusch and Neil Mrkvicka were able to find some seams and make some good catch and runs.  Mitch Moore also contibuted, much to the delight of at least one Warhawk fan, I would imagine. Danny Jones, 4 TD's, INT, played possibly his best game in a Warhawk uniform.  Beaver, another great day, over 40 pounding carries, over 200 yards again.  TE John Novak also should be singled out for making some key catches and playing a fine game.

Raebel was again a beast on D.  He did go down injuried early, but returned with no ill effects. His name popped up in the middle of everything.  WW played good solid, team defense.

Bobhawk nearly called this one on the head (if I'm not mistaken he said Point in the game early, WW 35-14 at the end).  Good call.

Obviously, if UMHB continues to win today, it sets up the game of the year so far next Sat. at Perkins Stadium vs UMHB.
