Barber Greene

Bobo,

What is the story with Gifford and Wells? This is the third straight week for Gifford. I believe he injured his foot against Lacrosse. I just caught the last quarter of the game after watching the Badgers thump the hapless Huskies.

BoBo

Don't know, Barber Greene.  The announcers were caught off-guard when Whitewater lined up on offense for the first time.  They seemed genuinely surprised when they couldn't even find Wells on the sidelines.  They had no other information on Gifford's injury.  Rusch and the big TE John Novak really stepped in and played great.

Good showing for my Pointers.  I thought they were good enough to hang around for a while, and they were.  Just too many weapons for the Warhawks.  I think the future for Point is bright.

Here's to rooting for a solid second place finish, even if it doesn't result in a playoff spot.

Looking forward to the UMHB vs UWW match-up. I was at last year's tilt in Texas. It was the most exciting 7-3 game I have ever seen. Hope this year's game is just as exciting, with a different end result.

7 days and counting until the Purple CRUsh rolls into Whitewater for its first appearance in Wisconsin.

The winner of this game should be a lock to be the #2 seed in the playoffs. So, there is even more on the line this year than last. Should be a great game. I can't be there but I will be listening.

It's the game everyone's been pointing to all year.  #2 vs #3 - doesn't get much better than that.  8)

Perkins Stadium will be in tip-top condition - the grass will be "cut" extraordinarily  high to slow your boys down a bit.

The extended weather forcast calls for a high of 48 and a few showers.  A little warm for snow, unfortunately, but otherwise not bad for this time of year.

Anyway you slice it, purple wins  ;)  :D  ;D

Very unpleasant news tonight out of the Minneapolis area.  Reports indicate former Green Bay Packer player and broadcaster Max McGee died in an accident at his home.  For those of you old enough to remember or young enough to have an appreciation of sports history, Max scored the first touchdown on a pass from Bart Starr in what has become known as the Super Bowl.  He was also part of Super Bowl lore with the circumstances surrounding his participation in the big game.  Though I am old enough to remember that game, I remember him more fondly for his many years partnering with Jim Irwins' play-by-play of Packer games.  I know in our family we always watched the Packers on the TV, but turn the sound off and the radio on to listened to Max's interesting commentary.  He wasn't the most polished color guy, but he was sure entertaining.  With him and Bob Uecker, Wisconsin sports fans have had 2 of the most fun guys to listen to when following our favorite professional sports teams.  I think Max also started Chi-Chi's, the Mexican restraurant.  Great guy all around.  He was 75 years old.  May he rest in peace.

Max was old SMU Mustang.  My favorite story about him was the day of the first Super Bowl he had been out partying all night and was caught by Vince Lombardi coming back into the Hotel in the early morning hours.  He caught holy heck and then when out and played probably his best game with a huge hangover.  I'm really looking forward to the game on Saturday.  The thing I remember about last years game was the sportsmanship and friendliness of the people from Whitewater.  Had a chance to stop and talk to several and if they are a sample of what the people are like up there it's going to be a treat.  Good luck to both of us whatever the outcome.

Max was old SMU Mustang.

According to the Milwaukee Journal/Sentinal, he attended HS in White Oak, Texas but played his college ball at Tulane & drafted by the Pack in '54.

Mr. Downtown

Anybody who was in La Crosse yesterday, can you explain to me what happen to Oshkosh?

Seriously, the fans and the media are now paying more attention to the Women's Volleyball team and the Men's Soccer team, and shoot, pretty soon the Women's Soccer team.

Oshkosh was held without a first down and -1 yards of offense in the second half??

I like coach Pat Cerroni a lot. I think he's a great coach, but I'm starting to wonder if its the coaching or the players that are not pulling through in the end.

I'm going to go with the players. I don't want to throw 28 seniors under the bus, but right now I'm watching Soccer because at least they score.

Terrible. Just Terrible.

Max McGee wore what may have been the smallest shoulder pads ever. We used to joke that he cut up a cardboard box and stuffed a ply under his jersey. Never flashy, always effective.

What the HELL was he doing on top of his roof at 75?  ??? ??? ???  Very sad news.

News reports say he was blowing leaves off his roof, and I'm presuming he was using a leaf blower.

Your Pointers did you proud yesterday, Just Bill!  Gave the Hawks fits until the defense clamped down and the pull away began in the 2nd half.  Really impressed with the QB.  Couldn't believe that he completed  that long pass with the Hawks D swarming all over him resulting in their 2nd TD right before half time!  Good luck with the rest of the season.

Speaking of QB's, great job by Danny Jones!!!  Most complete showing this season, IMHO.  Special recognition to #9, #80, #89 for stepping up big time. #1 was awesome and reliable as usual!  Another great job for the D but they need to come out firing from the whistle Saturday.  The Cru will run away if we take a quarter to get going against them!  Don't pay any attention to the hype this week, Boys!  A complete all- around performance will send the Cru back to the Lone Star State with their first loss.   Let's PACK THE PERK!!

I didn't mean what was he doing.  Should have said, "what was he thinking."   ;D
