BDG - That is crazy talk, running with high knees because the grass is shaggy is one of the dumbest things ive ever heard of, unless the grass is a foot long.  I have never seen grass on a football field that has made a player run any differently than normal, and i don't ever expect to see it.  Also teams with grass fields generally don't practice on them so growing grass long for an opponent or two would have the same effect on them, if it had any effect at all.

It's not exactly summer here, short weather but not summer.   ;D

From the sound of it the game should be played in mid-50's degree weather which, with the wind aside, I don't think will be that big of a deal.  Typically we have northern winds this time of year and depending on their strength they could have some impact.  However how much impact that has remains to be seen.  I wouldn't say the deep passing game, on which it could have more impact, is our strength.  Though we do have a good kicking game and a facing a stiff wind there presents problem not only on field goals but also field position on other kicks.

However one factor which could have some bearing is the field surface itself.  The field is in great shape though when I last saw it a week ago it had taken somewhat of beating from the marching band contest held earlier in the week.  WHITWATER plays on natural turf and I've been told MHB plays on an artificial surface.   That could slow them down somewhat.  Plus rain is predicted tonight and into the morning tomorrow which will soften the surface and perhaps impact footing.  Lastly I'm not sure how short it's going to be mowed.

In summary the field conditions will be more of a factor than the temperature itself.  Though obviously the field conditions will be determined, in significant part, by the weather.   We have a terrific grounds crew and they'll have the field prepared just the way we like it. ;)

I can attest that having watched the Johnnies get dismantled twice on the UWW natural stuff in early December that the turf was not an issue.  Generally speaking it was the Janesville Flash that did me in with his "Groovey" stash.   :o

You are entitled to your own opinion.  I think it does have some bearing in slowing down the receivers and defensive backs.   I have played on fields with grass about 3 inches high and it does impair the speed compared to fields with virtually no grass length such as the case in many SEC conference schools.

BDB,
I will be listening tomorrow.  make sure you do not show the bias for La Crosse on the air waves as that was the team you picked in the Pickem.

You are missing the point.  Players, in general, do tend to run faster on artificial turf than on natural grass.  It effects their speed but in a more subtle way.  The biggest effect will be the timing of the WR's running routes.  Usually takes some time for the QB to adjust to it.

What a ridiculous discussion on grass versus turf - I especially like the comment that runners will have to step higher to account from long grass.  Is the game being played in a prairie.

The difference between turf and grass is turf allows better traction - better traction enables receivers and runner to make sharper cuts and move faster.

Don't you guys remember the St. Louis Rams with Bruce, Holt and Az-Hakim.  They were unbeatable in their dome, but very beatable on grass.  Do you guys watch football?

I can agree with the timing issue, though I don't believe UMHB relies too much on precision timing in their passing game.  (Speed is impaired equally)

Ya, why would anyone want precision timing in their passing game?   ??? ??? ??? ::) ::) ::)

The talk about grass and turf is stupid.  Yes, you might be a little quicker on turf, not exactly faster.  With people saying taller grass slows down the fast teams, it slows the slow teams down just as much.  So if doesnt really make a difference.  The only that makes a difference is weather.  Its alway been said that weather is an equalizer.  Its not if your playing on grass, turf or sports turf.

I'm with Old Indian on this one... grass vs. turf has no bearing on this game...
Whoever wins is gonna be the team that gives up fewer rushing yds... If UWW contains Thrasher and Daniels, UWW wins... if MHB stops Beaver... I believe MHB wins... No simpler than that...

I'm predicting the following score:

UWW 34
MHB 17

The recruits will walk through UWW and come here and win us some more. WIAC championships.  Thus, everyone wins.
