Whats so bad about having transfer players?  We are talking about players making the life changing decision of which educational institution to attend at 17 or 18 years old.  If they make a poor choice, realize it and want to change it, I don't see any problem with that.

Lets be honest.  Ohio is a hot bed for talent.  If that state can support a half dozen scholarship football teams (including my favorite - Ohio State), its really no suprise to me that the OAC is as good as it is.  We used to called MUC the OSU Junior Varsity.  I'm glad that UWW has in some sense become the UW Junior Varsity.

It used to be "the in thing" to claim MTU only won with transfer players, which (for the most part) was untrue.  There are a handful over the years, but not anywhere near the majority.

I just posted on the Daily Dose how many Football Colleges there are in Ohio.

There are 38 total Colleges playing Football in OH.
There are 21 DIII Colleges playing FB in OH.
There are 7 DI Schools.
There are 2 DI (FCS) Schools.
There are 4 DII Schools.
There are 4 NAIA Schools.

So, MTU is fighting 20 other DIII Schools and 17 Scholarship schools for players

Indeed, I suspect there's a lot of kids considering both Hiram and Mount Union. :)

So, is the game seriously at 10 (11 ET)? The exact same time as comencement at UWW. If so, didn't they change the time last year? And, what are the chances of that happening again?
The chance is zero percent.  This year the Stagg Bowl is competing with 4 division 1 bowl games for TV time.

Go Purple Raiders!

Last year the Stagg Bowl was played closer to dinner time.  I walked in last fall's comencement at UWW.  I had hopes of going to VA for the game, but after the best 5.5 years of my young life, I pretty much I owed it to my family to walk.  In any event, we had time to go out for lunch and then watch the 'Hawks bring home a Nat'l Title.  What a great day.  This year I'll be in VA for the ball game.  I hope experiencing it live will be better than my first two visits to the Commonwealth.  Go 'Hawks!

Maybe the university can wheel in a "diamond vision" screen and mute the audio so the attendees at commencement can support their fellow student-athletes.  ;D

Sakman, your always welcome back on the warhawks band wagon, as we all remember how pissed you were. I remember hearing how pissed a lot of former players were about Leopold being hired over Zweifel. However after they won the national title. Many of those very distract alums, came out of the wood work, and told Leopold how great of a coach he was. He also remembered them telling him he was the wrong man for the job. I give the DLK and his assistant the UWW AD Paul Plinske  ;D credit for hiring Leipold,as they saw something in him, which has helped the warhawks to another stag bowl. 4 in a row, and they get to Monkey Stomp the Purple Raiders again. I know they only won by ten last year, but they shut up Garcon big time.

My question is who on Mount Unions team are we going to love to hate since Garcon is gone?
I still think he had a reason to be cocky as he did school the poor hawk DB's against us in 05 and 06, and then we returned the favor to him last year.
I am sure Mount has some new transfer WR from Florida on their roster who is almost as good as Garcon who we will grow to hate very quickly. They always do.

How many transfers are on the UWW roster?  I seem to remember there is a LB/RB that came from Illinois State.  I am so tired of MTU being accused of having transfer players, when actuality there are very few that come from higher divisions and contribute for the Raiders.  Garcon did play HS ball in FL, but he transferred from another DIII school.

As far as having another WR as a major contributor this year, we don't.  Leading Receivers from MTU:
Cecil Shorts III - Cleveland, OH
Vince Petruziello - Mentor, OH
Chad Reynolds - Wayne, OH
A.J. Claycomb - Medina, OH

Good luck and I hope to see another great game this year, just with a little different outcome.  ;)

I expect the Stagg Bowl to be a great game!  All season I've listened to people close to me (dad!) say," the 'Hawks can't possibly repeat.  They are not nearly the same team this year."  They may not be the same "team" but they are still going to get it done.  WE DON'T REBUILD.  WE RELOAD.  FINISH THE MISSION.  GO WARHAWKS!
I have said this before.

I think that the critical issue in Ohio is that high school players of "D-2 and D3 talent" anticipate playing football in college.

The "gene pool" has an abundant supply of quality football players who are too short, too small and too slow to play D-1, but yet smart enough and diligent enough to play the D-3 game.  Ohio does a good job of keeping those players in D3!

That and think about going to a school that you know you will compete for a national championship year in and year out.  If a kids goes to MUC in Ohio is a assured of this, going to Toledo on a full ride doesnt have the same alure in my mind.  Toledo might make a bowl game.  I would trade free education for a national title any day of the week!

I am going to enjoy this Warhawk championship run as much as I can...St. Norbert may be the powerhouse in Wisconsin soon  ;)

Congrats Warhawks, even if the rest of D3 hates it, I'm glad to see y'all back in the Stagg.  With the early start this year, I'm not sure if the environment will be quite the same for the tailgate, but the fans I met last year in the parking lot were a good bunch of folks.  Look forward to meeting some more of you this year.  Safe travels, and see everybody in Salem.
They should have practiced harder.

champ - The only team to "Monkeystomp" the Raiders is SJU (Since the replay showed Elliott got both feet in the back of the end zone, I'm over ruling the official)

There are, I'm sure, transfers to any school for many different reasons. There should be no taint on a team if someone choses to transfer to that school for athletic reasons. In fact, it should be looked upon as a positive for that particular school that someone chose it.

I'm not so sure about St. Norbert and football, but they've sure done well in hockey the last few years.  I really dislike Wisconsin colleges after last year when my favorite teams lost in the football and in the hockey championships to teams from there.

Sakman:
I know you never truly left. However it has all worked out for the best as anyone who has ever touched the warhawk football program can be proud of the national championship last year. As well as what they have accomplished this year, It is truly amazing how a team in such a competitve conference can dominate it four years in a row being 39-1 in conference the last four years is very impressive. Heck only losing four games two of in the championship game and one to a division 2 school in the last four years is even more impresive.
The best part is from what I ream on warhawkfootball.com the warhawks are not to cocky about it, they are more honored to have a chance to defend their title then anything and that is a true sign of a classy program which started back with Forest Perkins, continued with coach Berezowitz and something coach Leopold has continued.
