Funny, because that's the same thought I had when he made a point of saying that the water specifically came from Lake Erie!  And yes, SNL was selling "Swill" complete with a pull tab suspended in the bottle.

For anyone who cares...the best micro-brew for the season is Leinenkugels Fireside Nut Brown...

Any idea why Leinenkugels didn't produce their apple brew in the fall?  Only asking since you seem to be quite the fan of the brand.
They should have practiced harder.

I'm finding it hard to believe that the MHB defense is "better".  I mean if you are giving up mid to high 30's in points against any good team you play, how good can it be?  I know a few that have seen both have opined as such, but I am just not buying it.  It's one of those other "D-III myths".  You can claim it, but until you prove it on the field it just ain't so.   ;)

Don't get me wrong, Mount's defense has shown some cracks the last few weeks.  But those "cracks" have allowed teams to score 14, and then 17 (Wheaton scored a late touchdown against the 2's).  Now I firmly believe that WW is definitely better than anyone Mount has played to date, so who knows what that will translate to on the field.

Regarding Mount's offense, I would be highly surprised if they don't score in the 30's.  This should be a great game!

Ya, I am not buying any of it either.  With the exception of last year's semi-final 16-7 win over UMHB, we have dispatched the South Region Champ pretty handlely the last 4 years.  Playing MUC has proved to be a real step up every year and I expect this game to be no different!  MUC is MUC, for gosh darn sakes!   :D

Skunks,

I only watched a portion of the game, but from what I saw and heard it seemed that UMHB was constantly losing the field position battle.  Whether it was the offense not driving like they normally do, turnovers, and the weird kickoff, all of them gave UWW a huge field advantage throughout the entire game.  Usually, it is UMHB defense that gives the offense short fields, but also the offense doesn't put the defense in bad positions.  Now I was a defensive player and am a defensive coordinator and understand that when the defense is put in a bad position it is your JOB, to bail your team out and change the momentum.  That is what GOOD defenses do.  I am going to agree with you in that I don't think they are quite as good as last year, but I don't think they are that much worse.  (More of a "team" defense than the VERY "athletic" defense they were with Jarrell Freeman)  Given the chance to play again, I think (maybe hope is a better word) they would have a much better showing.  Not saying the CRU would win, because I believe that we were outplayed,  but I believe that it would be a better, lower scoring game.  I am trying not to be a fan when saying this and be as analytical as possible.   Damn it's hard though!!!   :)
YOU KNOW IT!!!!

D O.C.

QuoteNow, is there anyone who wants to address this without being bilious and defensive?

I am probably bilious, yet don't know the word. retagent's points are fact. Whitewater has been in 4 straight championship games. Fact. LINFIELD'S Streak and the johns' playoff appearances can take second seat to that.

QuoteI certainly enjoyed Ray Bentley's reaction and call when Beaver knocked Darly (sp) Ely into yesterday at the end of that big run before the half!!

Thanks.  I'd forgotten about that run ending. It brought me up off my couch when it happened.

What's the beer talk? Leave that to the also-rans. Let's see some smack with MUC. Are you guys like gladiators or something? Politely ready to kill each other? (you can see what movies I remember - No "Do you like gladiator movies?" quotes from 'Airplane', please.)

What is it about UWW (and MUC) that make them special?

As a football team, maybe it's the fact they have been in the Stagg Bowl the last 4 years...or maybe it's the color purple!!  :-\   ;)

Sorry, DOC, dude asked a question, my Wisconsin hopitality says I should help.
They didn't produce the apple brew because they didn't make enough off of it.

Oh, reading jsonline this morning and saw this article on the game. The journal sentinal does some good investigative reporting here and finds out who the one person is who cosistently voted for UWW as number one all year. http://www.jsonline.com/sports/statecolleges/36212044.html

For those of you not wanting to read it, Larry Kehres strongly implies that it was himself. Personally I find that to be at least a little classy.

Not really investigative reporting at all UWWFan...it was mentioned during the Stagg Bowl teleconference with the Head Coaches - all they had to do was listen in to hear Kehres mention it.

I know man, sorry, I should have thrown in a face  :) ;) :D :-\ to show that I was being sarcastic. My inexperience has shown through.

Newspaper article out of Temple, Texas showing still photos of the 2nd half kick-off hitting at the 41 and going backwards before being touched at the 24.  Also has quote from UMHB Head Coach saying he doesn't want to cry over it, but does anyway (sound familiar?) - now calls it a blown call by the SCIAC officials - and wants the NCAA to have instant replay at significant games like this (good luck with that  ;) )

I can't believe that anyone would actually be clamoring for instant replay.  Apparently, he hasn't been watching the NFL over the course of this entire season.  Part of the reason I love DIII is the fact that there is no instant replay.  It messes with the flow of the game, it changes the way officials call certain plays, and it doesn't always lead to the right call being made.  Instant replay is not the easiest way to correct what happened in Texas last week... UMHB coming out and driving down for a touchdown on their next drive would've worked just fine.
They should have practiced harder.
