dallas, I don't recall hearing any Q & A regarding the play calling.  No excuses; gave a lot of credit to Mount because it was earned, but also took the blame on some poor coaching decisions, especially on wasting time on the FG as was previously mentioned, but didn't get into other specifics.  Maybe the entire post game will be archived later on the main page - it would be a must listen, IMO.

I just got back from Salem. What a game. I won't go into game details but I simply wanted to tip my hat to the UWW Warhawk faithful.  You should be very proud. What a terrific and classy team. I saw many UWW players, who applauded and congratulated Mount and were extremely gracious after losing such a hard fought game. The UWW fans I met were great as well. This has turned into a fantastic rivalry.

I see UWW as a force for many years to come. Leipold has done a great job. Almost the entire team is back next year. The defense was stalwart against the run and your O line controlled the line of scrimmage. I fully expect the Warhawks to be in Salem next year. Hopefully Mount can replace some key players and be there as well.

For the rebuilding that UWW did this year, it was a remarkable run. Congrats on a great season and Happy Holidays to all.

Thanks for the classy post Shark. Congratulations on the championship. God bless and Merry Christmas to you and your family!

If you had told me before the game that Whitewater would control the LOS and not win I wouldn't have believed it.  Those first 7 offensive plays by Mount won the game; the warhawks played pretty decent after that!!

Sorry, beg to differ, there's NEVER a good defeat in a competitive atmosphere...was it Lombardi who said, show me a good loser and I'll show you a loser?  :-\

Just home from Salem.  What a day, what a game! Officiating was very poor, but it was equally poor for both sides.

Whitewater's lines were as dominant as advertised, but Mount was able to score early, and get a couple of defensive stops, before Whitewater's size and strength started to wear them down.   Whitewater deserves a lot of credit, they never gave up even when it looked like an early rout.

I was surprised at how few Whitewater fans were there as compared to the previous three years.  I suppose the nasty weather in the midwest had a lot to do with that.

Congrats to the Warhawks on a great season.  They will be back in Salem next year, hopefully for round 5.

So, we're stuck in Lafayette right now. This weather blows! Hope everyone had/has a safe ride home. We saw three accidents and about ten cars in (or go in) the ditch between Indy and here. The car behind me actually went in the median, I felt bad but couldn't stop to help and had to keep goin. Luckily we got a hotel here cause I think I heard Purdue is having graduation this weekend.

Anyways, to the game. Bobo, you hit it right on the head. The first seven Mount plays killed us. I also have to commend Mounts defense on the bend don't break 'strategy'. I think our play calling may have had something to do with it, but it seemed that every time we got near their 25 on a first they stopped a run play cold it seemed. I know you guys aren't big on excuses, BUT if you could humor me for a second here and if you don't like it just tell me to shut up. ;) I heard that the players got up at 6:30, which is obviously 5:30 UWW time. I definately don't think that helped, but does anyone else think that could have affected that start?

MUC, you guys did enough to win, and that's the sign of a champion, so my hat is off to you. But as the saying goes, I don't think we lost, we just ran out of time. ;) You guys are a classy bunch (still don't like that Garcon guy for whatever reason though) and I really hope we can get a fifth round next year (best out of seven, anyone?)
Oh, I heard someone say that next year the game is at Roanoke College, which is the first I heard of that. Is there any truth to that?

bambord

According to Wikipedia, so it must be the truth:

Roanoke's football program was discontinued during World War II after more than 60 years of competition.[45] Initially a club sport, the first varsity game occurred in 1892 against Allegheny Institute.[46] The final game was a 42-0 loss to Catawba College on November 13, 1942.[47]

In 1985, the Salem city government constructed an 8,000 seat stadium adjacent to Roanoke's "Elizabeth campus", two miles from the main campus, location of athletic fields and residence halls.[48] Constructed for Salem's public high school, many hoped the college would revive its football program and that the team would play in the stadium, but the college declined. The stadium hosts the annual NCAA Division III football championship even though Roanoke does not compete in the sport.

I am sooooo proud of the 08 Warhawks and their tremendous year and showing yesterday in their 4th Stagg Bowl.  You fought valiently, with a refuse-to-loss mentality that showed your courage, pride and character and represented yourselves and the program so well.  Won't go into the missed opportunities, lousy punting penalty, etc. as we all know them.  The important thing is that this young team has now seen, up close and personally, what it really takes to beat the Mount!  There is no room for error against a team at that level and that knowledge will serve you all well as you look toward the 09 season. Continue to work hard and build on this year.  I truly never thought you would make it back to the show with so many new parts but I knew that talent was the one thing that we did not lack for.  It is about building the chemistry, timing and solidarity that results from being in the trenches and fighting battles with your teammates.  The experience this season will pay off big time.  Hold your heads up and get back to work.  09 will be here before you know it and continued success at this level will have to be re-earned. Congrat again, Warhawks, on a remarkable season!  You made us all proud!

We just couldn't match their intensity for the first 10 minutes and when we finally did the hole was too deep and the pick-six was the dagger.  We never quit competing and perhaps if the game had been five minutes longer we could have pulled it out.  But it wasn't and Mount clearly earned and deserved their championship.

I'm disappointed by the loss but I'm proud to be a WARHAWKGUY.  The things the team accomplished this year were simply amazing and exceeded my expectations.  It's a long offseason but I know the returning players will put it to good use and next year we'll be battling for the league championship and another deep run into the playoffs.  I can't wait for it to start.

Thanks  for a great game and the scare at the end. Nothing to be ashamed of. Two great teams fought it down to the wire. Let's do it again ;D

Yes, we will do this. Thanks for the suggestion.

UWW's two-deep from this game.

Starters:
4 Seniors
11 Juniors
5 Sophomores
2 Freshman

Seconds:
2 Seniors
5 Juniors
10 Sophomores
5 Freshman

Next year looks great.

UWW vs. MUC Part 5 is very possible as Mount returns quite a bit too.  Obviously Micheli and Kmic won't be easily replaced, but the cupboard is hardly bare in Alliance:

Mount offensive starters:
5 seniors (Micheli, Kmic , TE Reynolds, LG Bird and RT Summers)
6 juniors

Mount offensive back-ups:
2 seniors (WR and FB)
7 juniors
2 sophomores

Mount defensive starters:
3 seniors (DE Millings, LB Yoder and CB Ely)
6 juniors
2 sophomores

Mount defensive back-ups:
2 seniors (DE and LB)
4 juniors
1 sophomore
4 freshmen

If one of the young Mount QB's turns out to be a quality player, Whitewater vs. Mount Part 5 is very likely

Kudos to the Warhawks and their fans! That's the way a title game should be played...right to the end!
