Its possible that someone on the bb board didn't like a certain question I asked regarding transfer students on the stout bb team...my bad.  I meant nothing negative by it, I was just curious.  Don't you just wish it was fall so we could have some WIAC fb to talk about  ;D

Ya, that was the one subject I thought might have gotten you in trouble but your attitude was respectful throughout all your posts.  I read nothing that should warrant such negative karma in so few posts.  Will do my best to keep hitting you up in the future and see if we can't get you out of the red eventually.   ;)

Hope everyone's had a good start to the new year!!

Seems like it's been a long time between posts for me - I've had a torn meniscus in my left knee for a while and the time finally came to go under the knife.  I had arthroscopic surgery last week & am now in physical therepy. Everything appears successful so far.

In regards to the karma subject, I personally prefer to stay out of any discussion about it anymore.  I learned a hard lesson about that last year. The happy ever after part of that is that the posters who dinged me daily for about 1 month when I was on vacation and didn't post, have since apologized.  So all is forgotten.

Today being National Signing Day, I thought I would starting a little recruiting news, DIII style. From the Wisconsin State Journal today, there is a story about a young man from Portage Wisconsin who has decided to attend UW-Whitewater over a DII scholarship from Minnesota State-Mankato, as preferred walk-on at D1 North Dakota, and a wrestling scholarship from DII St. Cloud.  This might be a story playing out in other communities around the state before everything is said and done. Good luck to Jake & welcome to the Warhawk family.

Sorry to hear about the knee surgery, Bobo, but happy that you are on the mend.  Pay attention to your workouts and you will be back in the starting line-up before you know it.   ;)  Nice, "get," for Coach Borland and the D staff.  Four Stagg Bowls and a National Championship sure helps the program rise to the forefront for some recruits that would otherwise not give D3 a serious look.  I also want to extend the welcome mat to Jake and his family.

Me in the starting line-up? That's too funny!!  I never had a sniff of that sweet air.  I can't even claim it was an old football injury.  It's just a plain 'ol degenerative knee. Chances are the other one gets the scope before the end of the year, too.

Coach Z must be going for speed.

The number of Milwaukee City kids heading to Dubuque will probably be greater than the number of Milwaukee City kids heading to the WIAC!! Go Z!

Here is more about it:

Griffin grabs some of Milwaukee's best: For a college that used to barely recruit the state of Wisconsin, the University of Dubuque, located in Iowa, has certainly changed it's tune as of late thanks to the hiring of head coach Stan Zweifel and special teams coordinator/defensive backs coach Gary Griffin.

Formerly the offensive coordinator at Minnesota State-Mankato and UW-Whitewater, Zweifel is very familiar with recruiting the state of Wisconsin as is Griffin who most recently coached at Milwaukee Bay View High School and was the District XXI representative for the WFCA.

Griffin used his extensive background and knowledge of the area to secure verbal commitments from a number of Milwaukee players including seven of his former Bay View Redcats. The list of Bay View players included defensive backs Kwame Bailey (6-2, 180) and Otis Brown (6-3, 185), wide receiver Teon Banks (6-2, 175), running back Darril Wynn (6-0, 175), offensive linemen Tramell Williams (6-3, 265) and Jimmy Watson (6-2, 305), and class of 2008 running back Lenier Johnson (5-7, 160).

Other Milwaukee area standouts who committed to the UD Spartans included Milwaukee South fullback Anthony Dowery (6-0, 230), Greenfield linebacker Ray Grafwallner (6-0, 185), Milwaukee Washington defensive lineman Marquis Boyd (6-0, 220), Milwaukee Washington linebacker Aaron Newton (6-2, 210), and Milwaukee Washington defensive back Darius Smith (5-11, 165).

Good hire by Z. I wonder what connections his other assistants have?

Trying to keep a perspective on this, IMO it should be noted that the Milwaukee City Conference, in recent years, has been nothing more than average, if not leaning towards ordinary in their football.  The suburban, Racine, and Kenosha schools are of a much higher quality. We'll have to wait 4 years to rate the success of this recuiting "coup."  Also remember, with no signed Letters in DIII, we have 7 months to wait to see if they actually enroll.  I hope they do, but don't be surprised to see a few fall by the wayside - it always happens.

I don't know a thing about these athletes or their programs for that matter.  What I do know a thing about is Stan Zweifel's ability to spot the talent he needs to run his scheme and to coach it.  I also know that we will be seeing a lot more of him and his staff as time goes on.  He is a relentless recruiter.

Think we will see them at Perkins Stadium?

I know a defensive coach at Bradley Tech HS in Milwaukee (with any luck the HC next season) and attended a few games in 08'. While the City Conference is not a strong one (understatement of the century) they do have great athletes. However, the city team players usually do not play organized football for the first time until they are Freshman in HS whereas most in the state begin in 6/7th grade or even sooner. There is little effort in the Milwaukee community to organize youth football.

Not knowing Coach Z, as you all refer to him, I'm not aware of his coaching tactics but I suspect from his past success he'll do fine developing the talent from athletes to football players.

My experience with city conference players (disclaimer: I played with ~20 over the years while maybe 1-2 lasted more than 2 years academically) is their struggle to make the grade once enrolled so hopefully Coach Z has an answer for that as well.
