I can see what people don't like about the idea, but you have to admit it would be MUCH cheaper, and would solve the problem of scheduling. Given other scenarios possible with the economy getting worse, this could be the easiest way out.

Then wouldn't this wipe out any games against non-confernce opponents?? I liked seeing how UWW matched up against other teams around the country...but I guess it's tough now that the WIAC is recession"ing". I suppose I don't blame them if they choose to go down that road.

Dividing the WIAC into North and South divisions is back on the table again, and this time the AD's are more than serious about it due to never-ending scheduling difficulties, and its being perceived as a money-saver in tough economic times. (Hope he's wrong, but my source thinks it is almost a done deal).

How might that work? The south play each other home and away, and play each north team once to make a ten game schedule?

From 1934 - 1947 (minus the war years '42-'45) there was a two division set-up.  Back then, Milwaukee and Superior along with the current 8 made up a 10 team, 2 5-team divisions.  They were playing a 4 game schedule - IMO, that made sense considering the time.

Fast forward to the present, I think 2 4-team divisions makes no sense at all - and only serves to create new problems by trying to solve the current ones (can anyone say rob Peter to pay Paul?), which I don't think this proposal with do anyway.  Even with the economy the way it is, do we really need to go back to the way it was 60 + years ago? In those years the southern division didn't play the northern division schools, I believe.  And all being done as a cost saver in tough economic times? So, when the economy improves, we change back again? Not a real convincing argument in my view.  All due respect to the source of this hearsay, the idea of this being on the table again (exactly when was this idea on the table since the current set-up started in 1948?) and close to a done deal - well...I can't buy into it. Smell's more like some northern WIAC conspiracy at work here!!    ;)

We'll agree to disagree on this one BoBo. I think it's a good possibility.

There's only one way to find out if a man is honest...ask him. If he says 'yes,' you know he is a crook.

JFlash, to answer your question, that's a "yes" with the North and South leaders to play for the title at season's end. Under that format, chances of sending two teams to the playoffs would decrease I would think.

Not legal. You need 12 teams to be allowed to play an extra-game championship.

If you play your division twice and the other division once, that's your 10 games. No space left in the schedule for a title game.

Thank you Pat.  I thought it didn't sound like a very good idea when I first read about it.  This might be the confirmation others need to be convinced that it isn't a very good solution to the problem, either.  I still don't know what might help these schools.

Does anyone think that the U-W sub system, i.e. the WIAC (not UW-M,) would consider easing finances by instituting a tuition hike? On a relative scale, in-state and out-of-state tuition in Wisconsin is relatively low compared to some neighboring states.

I heard they were raising tuition. Did WW name captions at the banquet last night?

There may have been some "captions" on the pictures shown in the season highlights.  ;)

I bet there was. On another note, I wonder if they named captains?
