Found it by way of a Lance Liepold google alert.

Re QB competition, I think it will be wide open, and I would be surprised to see JD the starter.

Yup, I would agree.  Definitely wide open especially when you consider that this appears to be a QB that Liepold has been "courting," for awhile if the article is accurate.

Nope Snoop Dawg's pack are from southern cal. Redlands area I believe. RFB knows. Him and SD go way back on the SCIAC board. Best of freinds.
Never heard of this kid but then again Colfax is not the center of the football universe in Nor Cal. That's the SF bay areas domain. De Lasalle territory. Great country if you like 115 degree summers. Wonder how he'll take to 30 below. Wait I heard that before. Something about some NorCal kid and can he play far away from home in the cold and snow. The answer was , well we know the answer right  ;)

So if Tisdal was successful at that level how the hell did he end up coaching at a JC ? That may be the better story.

I can comment here. Colfax High School is a small school football power in the Sac-Joaquin football section in Northern California. They run a high octane, gunslinger offense and are known for turning out very good quarterbacks. Also, Colfax is in the Sierra foothills heading up to Lake Tahoe and the kids have a reputation as being hard working, tough kids. I can confirm that is true as we played them when I was in High School.

Sierra JC is one of the best junior college football programs in the state of California, definitely in the top five in a state with 100 plus programs. Trust me when I say this, if the kid started at Sierra he is the real deal.

Also, Sierra is coached by Jeff Tisdal who used to be the head coach at the University of Nevada for four years. During his time there he won two Big West conference championships and one bowl game.

Jeff Tisdel has been head coach at Sierra for 22 years.  Chris Ault is the longtime head oach at Nevada (Reno).  He's been there for 24 years.  The archives really don't go back that far, so it is difficult to detemine Tisdel's involvement at Nevada & why if he was as successful as was reported by RFB, what might have caused him to have a career as a Cali Junior College coach and not at some higher level.  Back in those days, Nevada was actually D2 and later D1AA, and in the Big Sky Conference, I believe.

BoBo,

You're misinformed. Jeff Tisdel was a record setting quaretback for Coach Ault in the late 70's at Nevada. Coach Tisdel made a name for himself at Sacramento City Junior College with some very good teams. Coach Ault became Athletic Director at Nevada and Jeff Tisdel took over as head coach. He led Nevada to it's first D1A bowl win in 1996 with a win over Ball State in the Las Vegas bowl.

Why did he leave? Well, just like many coaches he had a few bad years and he resigned. Coach Ault then came back and took over the program. Jeff Tisdel took over a terrible Sierra College program in 2000 and has turned it into a state power. He has enjoyed the majority of his success in the Sacremanto area both at the high school and junior college level. He was a finalist for the Sacramento State job but was not chosen. I know his background well and he is a very good coach.

Stealth,

I never said Colfax was THE football power in Northern California. I said they are a small school power in the San Joaquin football section in Northern California. As for him playing in cold waether he should be just fine. Don't mistake Northern California with the sunbelt of Southern California. NorCal has a completely different climate and it can get cold there. It does snow at times in Colfax as it's located in the Sierra Mountains foothills.

And by the way. De LaSalle has been running scared from Grant (California State Champs) in Sacramento for years now. They will not play them. That problem looks to be solved as there will be a Northern California and Southern California championship that looks to be put into place for next year.

Assassin14

As a UWRF guy, I'm excited to see who takes the reins at QB next season.  The heir apparent is Ryan Leussenheide who has seen a number of snaps the last 2 years.  However, the word out of RF is that the young freshman QB is giving Ryan a run for his money in the offseason.  Whoever the QB is will still have his main weapon, #21, as far as I know.  I think next season is the year RF breaks out of 3-7 and into a winning season!!!

Thanks RFB, but not misinformed, just missed read.  Upon second look, the Sierra Football website does say he has 22 years head coaching experience.  When I first read it, I guess I read 22 years at Sierra...so I stand corrected on that.  I still couldn't find anything on the Nevada archives detailing Tisdel's coaching record there.  Coach Ault's accolades dominate that place and truly make him BMOC around Wolf Pack land...would you agree to that?

Bobo,

Absolutely! Coach Ault is the face and head honcho of the Nevada football program. It's been that way for awhile now and I don't see it changing anytime soon.  I enjoy watching the pistol offense that they employ at Nevada.

snoop dawg

No not my son.  He is either going to play at a JC next semester, a d2 in Colorado that has offered him, or one of the d3 schools that are interested.  I am anxiously awaiting his decision.

RFB,
I never said you said anything. I know exactly where Colfax is. -20 in a blizzard in the mid west is not +30 and a little breezy in Colfax though. You'd have to admit that.
As far as the De Lasalle vs. Grant statement. Not having the super human powers of mind reading that you do I can't say why they don't play. I doubt the coach from De Lasalle ever ducked anybody considering they play some of the top teams in the country year after year and had a little 151 win streak awhile back with a record of 334-20-3 in 29 years with 4 National Championships in a row from 2000-2003. Grant, zero. So ducking Grant maybe a bit of a stretch but if it makes you feel better so be it. Tell you what, if they do meet in 09 we can get back to this but until it's on the books then we can agree that Grant is no De Lasalle.  http://www.dlshs.org/data/files/gallery/TeamFiles/Football_Championships.pdf

The Journal Sentinel published an article yesterday laying out the proposed UW school system's budget cuts for the next two years. I know this doesn't really fall under the topic of WIAC football, but it might affect the scheduling/traveling for the 2009 and 2010 season.

http://www.jsonline.com/news/education/40579907.html

WIAC school's budget cuts
Eau Claire - $8.7 million
La Crosse - $11.0
Oshkosh - $7.7
Platteville - $5.2
River Falls - $5.7
Stevens Point - $7.9
Stout - $6.4
Superior - $2.0
Whitewater - $7.5

janesvilleflash

Right about the cuts. Problem is, if things keep going the way they are, those cuts could triple by this time next year. Glad to see LAX got the biggest cut.

I would think whitewater would receive one of the largest cuts....not that i'm complaining  8)
