As a Mount fan.........it was quite evident to me that once Leopold took over, the offense (especially in the 2007 Stagg Bowl) really seemed to be much more diversified and able to make plays on 3rd down.
I know some of you out there are Z Zealots, but the play-calling in the two previous Staggs (especially 2006) was ummmm......weak at best.  Just MHO.......
I think it was more of the muc defense then anything that year. However you are correct the play calling has become more dynamic then in the past. I also think that MUC has something to do with that as the new coach Z went and played at MUC.

One thing for sure is that Cutler can throw a rope in adverse conditions. Good for Soldier Feild conditions. Seen him a few times in living color. He's a playa.  Trust me I know QB's. Cutler making the Pro Bowl last year was pretty impressive given that he was up against Manning, Roethlisberger, Rivers and Palmer in the AFC. Did the Bears give up to much? Jury will be out on that question for a very long time. But I'm glad he is out of the AFC west.

Usually agree with you BW but as a Bear fan for well over half a century and a season ticket holder for much of that ......I would just point out that giving up too much for a young stud all Pro QB is simply an impossibility for the Bears. After suffering for years with the has beens that have played QB it would be ludicrous for a Bear fan to complain.....we will leave that up to you Packer fans to criticize.....

New Bear QB

The bear gave up too much for him.

Totally disagree.  Sakman is right.  Not possible for the Bears to give away too much for a fanchise pro-bowl QB who is only 25 years old. With the Bears track record with 1st rounders, I don't think they will even miss 2 of them.  Cedric Benson, (picked 4th overall,) ring a bell?  Compounded that wasted pick by trading away Thomas Jones.  Rex Grossman was 22 overall, and Cade McNown was 12th in 1999, just a few examples.   They broke the bank signing OT Williams with something like 30 million guaranted last year and he had back surgery before training camp even opened.  Jury still out on him but there was speculation that they knew about his back problem when they drafted him. A case could be made that they would have won the Super Bowl in 06 if Grossman had been up to the task.  I have said for years that the Bears either don't know talent or can't seem to develop it, especially at the QB position.   The Chicago Bears have now changed their starting quarterback an astounding 42 times since 1992, according to this article:

              http://www.bearshistory.com/lore/chicagobearsquarterbacks.aspx

Just heard a great stat on the radio.  Cutler had eight 300+ passing games last season.  The Bears have only had four in the last 5 years!!!  He will make everyone around him better and with the addition of Orlando Pace, it looks like the Bears front office may finally be getting clue.  Now they just need someone for him to throw too.   ;D

UW-LaCrosse recruits....http://www.lacrossetribune.com/articles/2009/04/02/sports/00lead.txt

Interestingly they include a transfer from WHITEWATER who was not on our roster last year.  Coincidentally he is from my high school alma mater, Tomah.   However he was a Timber Wolf and I was an Indian. :D

Leipold has indicated that WHITEWATER's recruiting is pretty well completed however they will not be posting a list.  With only six seniors graduating the emphasis this year was on quality and not quanity and the staff is pleased with the recruits they've landed.  I did post a list I found on Wissports.net a week or two ago and if you go back a few pages you can probably find it.  Of course it doesn't mean anything until next fall when the athletes are enrolled.

It will be interesting to see if and when Coach Z gets things turned at U of Dubuque.  Then second thing to watch will be how long he stays once the corner is turned.

It would probably be a good thing to occasionally get some different teams winning the hardware.

Nothing like being politically correct right BW
Wow only 6 seniors on last years team. Should be another top year.
Raiders lost few too, but we shouldn't miss KMIC & MICELLI too much.  :'(
WW might not miss them next year either. ;)
WELCOME TO THE MACHINE!

I suspect MUC will miss them more than we will.  ;)   Baring the unforseen we should be very competitive next year.

It was disappointing to see the school board change the nickname but from my perspective once a Tomah Indian always a Tomah Indian.

Where do I find UWRF and UWEC recruits?  Any opinions on either O or D line for both schools?

UniqueInsight38

I believe the UW-RF recruiting list should be posted soon on the website.  Lots of Offensive/Defensive Lineman

badgerwarhawk

It's not only a large recruiting class but there's some pretty large kids on that list.

Thanks.  I heard UW-EC also has a number of new linemen coming in.

Another Cal. QB headed to WW.

http://colfaxrecord.com/detail/107074.html

I can comment here. Colfax High School is a small school football power in the Sac-Joaquin football section in Northern California. They run a high octane, gunslinger offense and are known for turning out very good quarterbacks. Also, Colfax is in the Sierra foothills heading up to Lake Tahoe and the kids have a reputation as being hard working, tough kids. I can confirm that is true as we played them when I was in High School.

Sierra JC is one of the best junior college football programs in the state of California, definitely in the top five in a state with 100 plus programs. Trust me when I say this, if the kid started at Sierra he is the real deal.

Also, Sierra is coached by Jeff Tisdal who used to be the head coach at the University of Nevada for four years. During his time there he won two Big West conference championships and one bowl game.

Real deal!!! Saw this kid play at Colfax HS and a Sierra. A strong, intelligent, Drew Brees-like passer!! Ran a pass-oriented version of UNR Pistol, "high-octane" offense at Colfax. Had big wins at Sierra vs. San Francisco, Fresno, San Mateo, Sacramento, Sequoias and others. A California All-State HS QB while at CHS. Nice addition to UWW offense, hope he does well.

This coming from watching spring ball? Just curious of source...I don't know the new OC personally so I dont know his offensive style...quite a change from years past though.

It appears UWO will try to air it out this year.
